Sorry it took me so long to get back and read all this great advice. New York City can keep you out and going from early until you drop!

Jane- yes I'm getting the grey colored, and maybe some balyage? DH doesn't like the asymmetric thing, and I would need WAY more confidence...

Rachylou, Aliona and Carla- you've totally got it! I should take this opportunity and run with it, and yes, it does grow back. I remember the no hair chemotherapy look I was sporting awhile back. Puts it all in perspective for sure. And yes, Rachy, good idea to talk about my cow licks, cause I've got more than one!

Aliona, thanks for the compliment * blushing*

Wow, Viva and Lisa, I need you guys in my corner more often! Such compliments on my hair! Wish DH would do that. That's what I love about this forum, all of the support!

Secret Squirrel- cute moniker! And yes I am lucky with hair that works with me and is easy to style either straight or wavy :)

Theresa, yes I think I'll have to trust the stylist. I have no franking clue, and I'm so exhausted from enjoying NY, that I may just fall asleep in the chair. I will definitely post pictures after!

My favorites are 1 and 3, both are soft and pretty, and frame your face beautifully. I too, would trust the stylist. My best haircuts have been when I give a few preferences and leave the rest in their hands. Good luck and please post after your next cut so we can see what you choose!

Agreeing with Rachy and others, I would see what the stylist thinks - after you have covered necessary caveats like how long are you prepared to spend styling it. You have beautiful hair, it seems to fall nicely into place and behave itself! The stylist will likely enjoy being asked for their opinion too, even if you end up deciding on something else.

I would let a stylist at Fekkai cut my hair all off and tattoo my scalp if she thought it was best

You have glorious thick and healthy looking hair - and should be able to do just about anything you choose with it. I find Pinterest a wealth of inspiration for hair colour, cut and styling.

I echo the thoughts of others: you have a beautiful face, great bone structure and a good amount of hair to work with. I think I'd ask the expert for advice. I would tell him/her how much time you want to spend getting ready each day, and where you sit on the conservative-to-edgy spectrum, and if you have a limit to how short you are willing to go. Otherwise, I'd take advantage of this excellent and exciting opportunity to let an expert take you somewhere new. It's risky, but hair does grow. Good luck and post pictures!

I second Rachy's advice: You're paying for expertise, and that includes knowing what will work for your face shape, life, and hair type. Unless you have a big event coming up, I'd leave it in their hands, though that come with a risk that you get something too edgy. So if you live in a conservative area, you might want to mention that. Also, if you don't have access to a skilled stylist back home for upkeep, that's a factor, too, in the architecture and complexity of a cut.

My own philosophy is 'hair grows back' and I try not to get too upset about hair mistakes--I've had many. My stylist told me that he really focuses when a client gives him free rein. He said that when people give too much detail it makes him nervous that they have defined expectations so he goes into 'safe' mode and isn't as creative as he'd like.

You have great bone structure, so most cuts would look good on you. I can see you with a cut like Una's (Alaskagirl). A Vidal Sassoon 5-point bob has made a comeback here and would also look fab on you, though maybe edgier than you'd want.

Agree with Jane. The length in #1 is lovely on you, but angled (shorter in the back) is just a little edgier. It still allows you to pull back the longer front for gym or chore days.

So... I like to hang on by the seat of my pants, but I'd totally just leave myself in the hands of Fekkai in the hopes I'd be seeing a stylist stylist. What I'd do to prepare is to tell them about my lifestyle, my boundaries, how I need to come off overall, and what I know about my hair (cow licks, wave, problems like breakage, that sort of thing). At Super Cuts, you order off a menu of - I can't remember exactly - something like 12 haircuts, which may or may not actually be possible to do with one's own hair. You do this because that's as far as the training goes at that level. A salon stylist should be the one to figure out what has to be done to really get the impression you're after in light of what they can do and what is possible with your specific head of hair. This is my working theory. Not that I have such a stylist now, lol.

Anyways, I like 1, 3, & 4 on you. The 'flat' styles. I find 2 a bit puffy... The volume is in the wrong place to my eye, in any case.

Last thought, I think it's better to take pics of yourself and past haircuts than pics from a magazine. 'Cuz it's all about YOUR hair...

I think a Bob style looks great with your face shape and I would be tempted to go quite short at the back so that it falls forward. How about a side parting with one side longer that falls in front for dramatic effect? Sounds fun but I would need to be I a confident frame of mind to make the best of the experience...are you getting colour done too?

Over the last year, I have been trying to find my way with new hairstyles. I started last April with almost waist-length, uncolor treated brown hair, with a small amount of greys. Had it cut to a below chin- length bob, grey covered and highlights. Since then I have just let it grow to just past my shoulders, which is not looking right to my eye.

Anyway, I am in New York City for a few days, and my DH suggested I should get it done here. So now I have an appointment THIS Saturday at the Fekkai Salon on Fifth Avenue. Aaack!!

Please, if you can think of, or post any haircut suggestions, I want to go pretty short, but still feminine. Long pixie? Sideswept? Mohawk? (Just kidding). Give it a whirl!

3 is me now, 1 just after first cut last year, 2 sometime in between, and 4 is the long hair.
