I think I am hugely lucky that I can wear it short without a lot of work. (Or without ANY work, some days). It really spoiled me and made it much harder for me to manage long hair. Too much upkeep.

Una, can't wait to see your pics!

Rita, you are right! Back when I was way younger, I used to let my husband (then boyfriend) use an electric clipper to keep the back of my hair short. EEK! Sometimes getting older is a really good thing.

Wedge in the back and long in the front? Go for it!! I beyond love my short hair! It was just going to be temporary, but now I am thinking I'm keeping this style for a while.l

Just a thought though, the hair on the back of your head grows much faster than the front. You'll probably need to get more frequent haircuts with a shorter style.

Una, I think a choppy, angled bob would look fantastic. I love the pic of Charlize but I think that extremity with the wispy bits can quickly look not the healthiest, particularly if you are styling everyday (I share from experience). I think my previous stylist used a technique call point cutting? To create texture and a more choppy look. She also cut my hair while dry. Good luck, I have no doubt you will come out with a modern edgy look. Can't wait to see it.

I think you have the features and just slightly exotic look to carry it off well. Your hairdresser will be able to tell you if your hair will cooperate. I have found a really good flat iron can be a girl's best friend when it comes to short hair or growing out hair.

I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Suz, for hair that hasn't been styled, yours looks amazing.

Una-- I love it-- but I wonder--- only because Charlize has much thinner hair than you. My hair would do that, but I am not sure yours will.

Thanks C1! We'll see what my hairdresser comes up with - like I said, I tell her what I want, and she does what I need.

Suz, if I looked that good AFTER styling my hair, I'd be happy for the rest of my life. You OWN that cut.

Una: that's a super edgy and cool looking haircut, but I wonder if it would take to your hair, and even if I did, I'm almost sure it would require a TON of maintenance....but perhaps I am way too maintenance averse.

I generally have to WET my hair, but not necessarily wash it. And I don't usually bother with blow-drying when it is short.

But here it is today. I didn't bother wetting it this morning. Nor did I use any product. Nor did I brush it, for that matter. So it's not perfect, but neither is it horrid, and it could be improved with product alone and no wetting.

Generally what I do if I want to go out in the world without wetting the hair is aim for a more textured look and add product to get it there.

Please excuse the gear and lack of makeup; I'm just back from a run.

The styling question is really important. The best styles for us tend to be the ones that look best AND are the least work for our individual hair type. For me, a bob is a huge amount of work, making it straighter, ironing it, etc.

Una, I like the idea of a choppy/angled bob. I think you would rock short hair!

What Marley asked: will your hair do that?

Oh, I will. She is very good at listening to me ramble on and then doing the right thing. I also know short hair is not the lowest maintenance style for me. It's easy to style but I have to wash my hair every day when it's short or I look electrocuted. Do you find that to be the case, or can you make your hair last a day or two? (Say, if you were camping - by day 3 I'm usually wearing a hat or in a ponytail if long enough).

That is very cool, Una. And I think it would suit you.

Ask your stylist about the upkeep and whether it will work with your hair's texture. This was something I really had to consider. (Initially I wanted an angled bob but the upkeep would have been more than I could have tolerated with my hair and also, my hairline in the back doesn't really work well with a sharply angled bob.)

You will need to know how it will grow out, and whether you can cut it into something else you enjoy if you get tired of it. Also, whether it can be styled successfully in different ways. You don't want a style that will look ratty instead of uber-cool, and you probably also want one that CAN look a bit more conservative if you're in court.

So I am thinking of something semi-drastic with my hair. I can't go completely OTT, given that I have to look like someone that elders can trust with their legal concerns, but I am really drawn to make a big change for the edgy side.

Here's what I'm thinking - shorter,. angled and much choppier all around, leaving the very front pieces longer. The closest photo I can find is of Charlize Theron in "Aeon Flux" (yes, I secretly want to be a manga/anime character!)... But this would be more of an extreme short textured angled bob. Am I nuts?

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/stil.....lux04.html

ETA: There's also this Victoria Beckham cut, but I have way more hair, and am thinking more razoring/shattering to make it piecy-er...
