Maya, for hair your length, I'd start with a dollop no bigger in circumference than a quarter in the center of your palm. Then rub your hands together to get a thin layer over your palms and fingers, and then scrunch in lightly, starting from (and concentrating on) the ends. You'll probably find you don't use all of it, especially near the roots/bangs. This is totally okay--wash the rest off and see if that looks any better tomorrow.

I am a fan of biosilk products including their hair shine like Rosie. One thing I have done in the past without product is as soon as I step out of the shower, I pull my hair in a tight bun. This of course only works if I don't have to rush out somewhere right away. Then I leave it wet in the bun for as long as I can. For some reasont that I don't understand, when I let my hair down several hours later, there is no frizz or fuzz. Otherwise, I get a lot of that. I should say, I used to get a lot of that. Now with short, short hair, I have no worries at all - just a little goop to separate out the layers and my hair is done in 90 seconds!

Well, there is definitely a surprisingly pronounced wave to my hair...but I definitely went overboard with the curl cream. On curly hair it probably looks gorgeous. On me, it looks greasy. I probably needed significantly less than I used. Live and learn! Tomorrow I'll use less and see how that goes.

Maya, I'm interested to hear how you made out with the curl cream?

Also, I would suggest trying out DevaCurl gel. The folks at Deva recommend that curly girls never put shampoo in their hair, so their products are all designed not to build up in a no-shampoo environment. (Not suggesting that you follow their curly guidelines, just saying that none of their products contain silicones.) http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....292EY54K0Z

Maya - I like the Silk shampoo and conditioner by Biosilk. They also have a finishing product you put in wet hair ... not sure if there's silicone in it. They claim there's no build-up, though. Anyhow, easily purchased at Target and not too expensive.

I have nothing new to add other than to say I like your hair! Maybe if it was the same length as the models it would work better? As far as frizz, I have found, when I deep condition 2x's a week, that helps with the frizz. I also cannot air dry, frizz galore. I don't know how oily you are but I wash every other day, that has helped with frizz too.

I'm not naive enough to think she has no products or stylists working on her hair. I was just wondering what they are doing that I am not.

I went and bought a lightweight curl cream today. It sounds silly since I don't have curly hair, but I figured...if it can work on curly hair, surely it can work on my hair? I never thought of my hair as being wavy before. It is pretty straight. But I think a lot of that is because I style it straight and have done so since I knew how to pick up a blowdryer. It's not SUPER wavy, but probably enough to look a little different than usual.

Tomorrow I'm going to run the cream through my hair and use a diffuser and see what that does. My guess is probably nothing, but you never know until you try...

As others have mentioned, I think it's about product. Also, when my hairdresser was helping me figure out how to work with with my natural texture (sort of wavy but not curly), she twirled it around her fingers in the front, which gave it a more finished appearance.

I really like Dirt, but I like it for more of a piece-y look. I'm a huge fan of Frederic Fekkai's Brilliant Creme, and I'm wondering if that might give you the look you want.
http://www.sephora.com/browse/.....oryId=4221
It's pretty weightless, I've found, and I tend to have big, puffy, frizzy hair, especially when it's humid.

Maya I've been using Morrocan oil. After having my hair coloured I was getting the frizzies. I smooth the teeniest amount through wet hair then leave it to air dry. It dries quicker with it in and calms down the frizzies x

Edit not sure if it's silicone based though? x

I think the model's biggest "secret" is that she has people to do her hair for her. My hair is very similar and I get the fuzzy junk when I do my own hair, but when I get my hair cut they always make it look really good. I can never get the same results at home, even using the same product!

Just curious, Maya, what is your new hair goal? Just a bit longer?

Okay, so two thoughts. My hair is naturally wavy, fluffy, frizzy. There is a very good product from Kerastase that I discovered when I was traveling but forgot to bring my normal hair goo. I borrowed it from my sister-in-law (who always has beautiful shiny hair, among her other annoyingly perfect but impossible to hate virtues). It is called Kerastase Oleo-Relax. This does contain silicone "derivatives" (I know, I know) but also oils that condition the hair. It is much, much, much lighter and spreads better than any other product I have used. I have been going strong with one bottle that I bought a year ago (costs $36). Not really expecting you to take this recommendation, but I just wanted to put it out there because it really helps me a lot. You saw a bunch of photos of my hair recently so you can judge for yourself. (But you will never see a photo of me with no product in my hair!)

Second thought is I actually have that product called Dirt that Renata recommended. I never used it the way she recommended just because I use it more on dry hair when I want a piecey-ier effect. I also use it as a general go-to to make my hair look better when I am heading out the door and it's looking a little weird. Actually I have received compliments this way--oh your hair looks really nice, are you doing something different? Um, sort of, today I am desperately piling on product at the last minute... I just haven't happened to try putting it onto wet hair myself. Before I bought it (it's also pretty expensive) Sephora gave me a little sample in screw-cap pot that I could try at home.

By the way, I got my hair cut on Friday, following your and others advice. I really love it, and if it ever stops being 97 degrees here, I will post a picture.

Maya,
Silicone products coat the hair and prevent the hair shaft from absorbing moisture from humidity, thus less fuzz and frizz. This is great short term...photo shoot etc. , but it builds up quickly and is counter productive, leaving the hair dull and actually damaged looking over time:(

Ulta has a couple of good products, anything that has the word cream that is applied to wet hair seems to work best, one called FRIZZ with a line through it...something like that.

Looks like Renata is looking up some products for you...you could prob. google silicone free hair products, and find one that may suit your hair type, yet add shine and enhance curl:)

I think your hair Maya is like the models in thickness and texture, but I'm sure she has some product in her hair to enhance the wavy texture further. There is some out there that are non greasy, try little on your finger first when out shopping, when it makes your finger shiny then I would stay away. I will be back with some names later that you should try.

I am hoping that Taylor wil lend her expertise, but to my unexperienced eye, the only big difference I see (other than the length diff) is that her hair is very shiny and your looks more 'normal'.

If you used one of those smoothing, shining, finishing products on it, would that make a difference (Taylor?)

I have hair that gets a fuzzy finish when left to air dry, and many stylists have recommended a shiny hair product for me . . .

Good point. I just took a shower so I will try and take a picture when my hair dries.

Maya, would you ever be willing to post a pic of your hair naturally dried? I have no idea what her secret is, but I'm curious if seeing your hair would help us to figure out what the difference is between your hair and hers.

I was surfing through Asos and noticed this model.

http://www.asos.com/Vero-Moda/.....8;clr=Pink

That is pretty much how my hair looks when it dries naturally. However, on *me* it just looks sloppy, flat and sad...not cute and spunky like it does on the model. Why is that? How do you get a look like that to work?

I have really been hating my hair lately as it has been growing out and I just don't know what to do with it anymore. It just frustrates me when I see someone with the exact same texture and similar length as me, yet they look fabulous and I just look like a wreck!
