Thank you all very much for your feedback.

Taylor - I will take your advice and take the picture to the hair salon. I don't currently have a good stylist but I got a recommendation from a friend, whose hair is always well-styled so I will give her stylist a try. If my hair looks as good as Maya's for the first trim I will be very happy. I can be patient for a couple of months because I think this haircut will really work for me eventually.

As for highlights - I may give it a try if I can save up for it for a couple of months.

Angie - I haven't used a flat iron before but I'm not opposed to the idea. On the other hand, my hair is very docile so I may not need it at all - we'll see.

Thanks again!

Taylor took the words right out of my mouth! I love the update too. Will you flat iron, Bella?

Hi Beautiful Bella,

I really love the look you are going for...a perfect update for you.

The finished style looks to be a good 4 inches longer (realizing your hair is flipping up, it is still alot shorter), and quite *layered* out on the ends..and flat ironed of course. The interior is heavily layered as well, but *longer* layers on the bottom, and also angled starting* below* the jaw. This look is very easy for you to achieve within a short period of time.

Bring this photo to your stylist...have her KEEP your length and work on the interior layers ONLY to create this style. You do not have to loose any of your length!!

You will probably not achieve this perfect look for a couple of shapeings...give it time to fill in where needed.

You could have just a few highlights around the face, no need to do the whole head...much more affordable...if the budget allows:)

My hair was similar to the after picture, but with your length, before I cut it into a bob. I don't think I looked like I had a mullet :p The reason I cut it was because it was really difficult for me to keep it looking that sleek and pretty. It would usually end up looking messy and tangled, so I don't know if posting a picture of me with it would serve as good inspiration. My shortest layer hit at the top of my ear, but it wasn't like you could see it. It just took the bulk out and kept it from getting too heavy at the ends. It was more about keeping a nice sleek shape and keeping it from weighing itself down than about creating texture or anything like that. To get it as sleek as that girl's hair is, I think you would probably need to flat iron it.

Here is a picture of it looking fairly decent.

http://smg.photobucket.com/alb.....1087-1.jpg

It's hard to see the layers since it's so dark, but I assure you that they are in there. I also couldn't really style it properly since I was on vacation and didn't have my usual hair styling toolkit at my disposal.

In this one you can kind of see a bit of layering (please note that I was never this skinny--this was taken using a skinny mirror at H&M):

Bella, let's try to get Taylor's input since she's a stylist (the hair kind, not the Angie kind).

I am less than clueless since I have curly hair, which ignores every rule of polite, mannerly, well-behaved hair.

Bella, I am clueless about hair, but my stylist was trying to talk me into exactly the same cut the other day. I didn't want to do the bangs though, but the rest of it is pretty much the same. It is a bit longer than your hair length, but I also had a similar style with shorter hair, so I think you can make it work as long as the longer layer is below your collarbone - maybe when you flat-iron your hair will be long enough.

I would like to change my hair a little bit and this is exactly what I want (After picture)
http://www.hairthursday.com/br.....-color.htm

This is how my hair is right now:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....639437183/

Basically, my hair color is very similar to the one in the picture (before picture). Even though I absolutely love the highlights in the second picture, I cannot afford them right now so I have to stick to a hair cut. Also, I think my hair type is also very similar to the one in the picture.

The problem is that to me it looks like my hair is shorter than the picture. Am I right? So would that style work on my hair or would it look like I am wearing a modern mullet? What do you think? How can I make this work for my hair?
Thanks!
