The bottle lasts me several months, they pack quite a lot in there. I wash my hair every 3-5 days, and use 3 big pumps of mousse on wash days plus the occasional extra pump for non-wash days to add in some volume; most of the non-wash mousse days get a cheap volumizing mousse, the curl stuff only comes out if I need to add curl back.

These photos will be immensely helpful to show my hair dresser. I think the first photo is where I should start and if I like it, I could go shorter in the back and longer in the front like you. I will have to ask my hair dresser if she can do choppy layers. Thank you so much. I have to look into that mousse too. How long the bottle lasts you, Aida? Also how often do you wash your hair?

Oh you've got some pretty good curls in there actually, Mona! I think you are right about the longer shortest layers, maybe nose height? It will end up shorter than that once it's dried, especially if you put in the curls like you have in that image.

So the layering looks similar to image #1 below. You can see those short eye-level layers, followed by some nose-level layers, chin level layers, and then the final length. That's what gets you the rounded fluffy shape. My cuts have similar layering, but I have my stylist make the levels more choppy so they are not distinct (I included a very lightened photo so you can see it). Essentially my stylist cuts the normal layers in, then goes back and chops out random sections; she'll also do the final shaping after my hair is more dried to take care of any wayward curls. I've also got significantly longer long bits in front :)

Maybe something quite a lot longer, like photo #3, would be a good starting place? As you said, you can always go shorter.

Thanks for the detailed answer, Aida. I think the challenge for me right now would be to find a good stylist who understands what I am talking about (almost impossible in this little town) OR, I am thinking to ask my current hair dresser to do it but not go so short. In this case, if she messes it up at least I will grow it out faster. On Astrid's thread you had mentioned that your top most layer at the back starts at eye level. May be I should go a little longer than that. What do you think? I am attaching a picture of my hair from the back to show how curly it is after applying mousse and air drying.
Also, sorry I could not reply earlier as I had to take my son to a late basketball practice.

How exciting, I'm flattered! I think our face shapes are similar, I could see this type of longer angled bob working for you. It's definitely possible to keep a lot of wildness in, especially at the longer length, if that's something you're interested in.

I know your hair isn't curly as mine, but a couple things about them: First while my hair is curly, it is not thick nor heavy; getting all those layers put in is a big part of what allows it to curl the way it does. Second, the other thing that gets me those curls is the curl products I use. My main curl product (mousse) goes all over, not just at the roots though that's where I start; I also use a fair amount. When it's longer, the curls ease up quite a lot and without any curl product it will be very loose, almost wavy. With the longer hair I used a curl crème, but find them too heavy with short hair. Your hair probably has better texture for those, though. And the third is that on the days I wash my hair I use a blow dryer, and will also use it on some non-wash days for quick water/mousse refreshers; letting it air dry will get me curls, but they don't look nearly as good or as fluffy.

As Rachy and Texstyle mentioned, it's possible that with the right layering your hair will be lighter and thus might curl more, especially with a good curl product (EDIT: Ok looks like you confirmed this :)). With wavy hair usually the best you'd get is a loose curl. The curl mousse I use is rather pricey but it is an excellent curl inducer. KP recently bought some and posted some great photos showing how much more curly it made her wavy hair in one of my posts.

Which of the wavy types of hair do you think you have, Mona?

Textstyle, my hair gets curlier when I cut it short. I usually put some mousse in my ends, scrunch and leave to air dry. I am actually not looking for curls like Aida. I would be happy to have her hairstyle but with waves instead of curls.
Asrtid, your thread was very helpful. It looks like the biggest problem for me would be to find a good hair stylist which may be impossible in this little town.
Thanks for nice words, Angie and Deb. I have to see if have any success with finding the right hair stylist. I am sure my current hair dresser is not that skilled.

Mona, I wonder what happens when you cut shorter layers in your hair now - does it get curlier without the added weight? If so, you may be able to pull off something somewhat similar to Aida's. Do you comb it when it's wet or leave it to air dry. I'd experiment with that if you haven't already to see how much curl you can coax out of it. I have somewhere between wavy/curly hair myself but usually straighten it with big curling iron. I find that if I only use a giant tooth comb out of the shower and then let it air dry that it is much curlier than if I used a smaller tooth comb.

You know, that may or may not be something your stylist could do. I used to go to a master stylist who could turn my waves into curls with the scissors.

But in general, I think you could pull off a shorter cut. I'd keep it a long bob, like Aida.

Hello fabbers,

I am itching to get a new haircut for some change and was thinking about copying Aida's hairdo. I am not sure if that is going to work though. My hair is wavy versus curly and very thick and heavy. I look absolutely horrible in short hair becuase of angular face and strong features. Actually, short hair gives my face a very masculine look. But if I keep it longer in the front like Aida's, it may work. What do you guys think? Aida, I would appreciate if you chime in here. Any suggestions would be helpful.
