Heat and humidity really do affect curly hair, how many weeks will it be before the temp cools and your wave drops? I think you will be amazed by how much your hair has grown. Your curly hair really does frame your face!

Thank you, everyone, for your kind words.

I know I shouldn't really be complaining. Considering where I started (see picture), it is quite remarkable how far my poor hair has come.. I stopped blowdrying it around 10 months ago, and this picture shows the immediate aftermath. You could see just the faintest hint of a wave, but I wouldn't have really described it as wavy. I would have never believed it was capable of being as curly as it is now.

I guess I'm just getting frustrated because when I used to straighten it, I could see the progress. Now it's much harder and it makes me want to give up and just cut it all off. It's not necessarily that it will look BETTER longer...just that I'd have more options. I miss putting my hair up, but I need to get it very long to do that.

Maya, I'm also growing out a hair disaster from last year. I got it permanently straightened. My natural hair is growing back curly. Every month that goes by it looks like it is getting shorter, not longer. I know how frustrating it is! Even though your hair is not exactly what you want, at least it looks gorgeous!

Your hair looks beautiful in the pic! But I can understand your frustration. With curly or wavy hair you really need to be all the more patient before you see any changes. And your length is complicated, too! Like airin I had a pixie in 2008 and I let my hair grow since then. I had the feeling that the first part happened really fast, but the hardest part was when they were shoulder length til now. It just didn't look like they would grow at all!

Have you tried measuring your hair growth? I know it sounds silly, but it helped me to stay patient and kept me from cutting them again. So when my hair looked like it didn't grow at all for the last few months, I would measure my (wet) hair and see that it was still growing even if it didn't look that way.

I really can't help you with the bangs, because I never had them myself.

Is there a reason why you want to reach the length you mentioned? For me it was the fact that I have never had long hair before and I want to let it grow until I reach a certain length.

Maya, you look absolutely stunning. Personally I'm in the process of praying my hair longer - nothing else seems to work AT ALL Good luck and hang in there!

Maya, as hair gets longer it seems like it grows slower. Have you tried to trim the ends - sometimes that promotes better growth.
However I think your hair is great as it is now - beautiful actually!

You look fab with your hair at this length! Beautiful waves, and beautiful smile!

But I know it doesn't help to hear that if you have a completely different look in mind.

Hang in there. It DOES grow. Eventually.

I got a pixie almost two years ago and my hair is not yet THAT long. I know how it feels having horrible hair (and I mean REALLY bad hair with stupid layers and weird shape) Your hair looks more than fine, girl! And your smile too

Wow, it is amazing how curly your hair is now.

I have been trying to grow my hair for 2 years, and it is stuck at a similar length. Wondering now if possibly my hairdresser thinks it shouldn't be longer, hmm. You could be right, though, about curly/straight length in your case. Iron it once if you want to see progress (I know, you are saying NO to heat styling.)

I was just watching a silly movie on TV last night with an actress with great hair. It also made me consider growing out my bangs. That part shouldn't be too painful for you though, no?

I hear that if you hang upside down for several minutes a day, gravity activates the follicles to release more hair keratin and it helps it to grow.
You could always try it and let us know the results.

;) (just kidding). It'll grown soon enough -- it just won't seem like it is all.

I am in the process of growing out my hair and it just seems like my goal never gets any closer. I think this is because in the winter it was dryer and my hair was straighter, and now the humidity makes it curlier and thus shorter, as though it hasn't grown at all in 6 months.

This picture isn't the best since it's so dark, but it is recent enough to show the current length. If you look at where the second button on my jacket is, that's about where I'm trying to grow it. It seems no closer than it did when I last got it cut, and I'm getting frustrated and bored.

I think being able to put my hair up in some way would greatly help, but I'm just not successful. My hair is slippery and I have lots of layers, so nothing ever sticks. I have tried spin pins, dousing my hair in spray, clips and pins of all kinds...nothing works. It has to get longer before I can really do anything interesting. I have headbands and all but that's getting old fast.

I'm also trying to grow my bangs out which adds a whole other layer of frustration to the mix.

I guess I am not asking for advice, just whining...
