No suggestions for your hair, but I wanted to cheer you up in case you decide to grow it out again. I went from a pixie to long hair twice and I know how long it takes, although my hair grows fairly fast. But it's possible! Can you stop with some of these trims you did? In my experience stylists cut off too much most of the time, even if they know you're trying to grow it out. That way it takes even longer to get some length. If you don't feel bad about your hair at the time and you don't have split ends I wouldn't trim.

I'm in Australia, so no help - a little too far to come to try on wigs I fear:)

Caro and lyn, I like the wig idea! Any idea who carries decent wigs (for trying on purposed only)?

I agree with Caro; I'd pop on a few wigs and see if I like the look and if it's something I'd suffer all the pain of growing out hair to get!

I'm growing out my hair too and it's like UGHHHHHH on most days. I'm in the mullet phase. Some days, I feel like someone should be merciful and shoot me.

Sympathy - lots of it. It feels awful when your hair isn't working for you.
Can you go try on some really good wigs?
They may give you an idea of whether it would be worth persevering with growing out your hair & if you don't like any longer styles you may feel better about your short cut.
Not sure if this helps but I think some of the most stylish women seem to find a cut that works for them & then they stick with it.

Mo - the only problem with hats is, because my hair is so short, I look like I have no hair when I wear one. :-)

Joy, I did just start going to a new stylist! She's only cut my hair twice so far, but I really like her. Perhaps I will talk to her about what she thinks.

Donna, my hair grows slower than average, so I am envious. Hang in there! Changing the front is a good idea, if I decide to keep it short.

I know what you mean!!! After basically over twenty years of SHORT spikey hair, I decided it was time for a change. It was edgy then, but c'mon, twenty years?!? An inch or two at the crown takes FOREVER to grow to chin length. I think my hair was even shorter than a pixie. I decided to grow my hair this summer at the same time I stopped coloring it but I have still been going in for my five week trims. Still, IMHO, EVERY day is a Bad Hair Day.

I think I would give up if I hadn't run across 1992 photos of me with my old same haircut. Hair is supposed to grow an average of six inches per year, and I know mine probably grows eight or nine since it usually needs a trim after four or five weeks and my gray roots would show after 2.5 weeks. My agony ought to be shorter lived than most, right?

If you are bored, maybe think about changing the front? It might be easier/faster than growing those very short top layers at the crown.

It sounds like short hair suits you and your super fine hair better than a longer style might. If you are bored, maybe you could live dangerously and let a different stylist loose on your locks.

I'm only trying to grow my bangs and am months into and they're still bugging me. I can only imagine (since I have quite long hair) what growing out *all* of it would be like. No advice, but I can empathize. Maybe use hats this winter if you want to try to grow it again?

Hello all. I posted here several months ago asking for opinions on growing my hair out, and as a result of the responses, decided to do so. I grew it out from April till September - and then cut it again because I couldn't stand it anymore. (My hair was so short to begin with that even after 5 months of growth, it still just looked like a pixie that badly needed a trim.).

I felt relieved after I cut it. I looked good again! Polished and like I had an actual style. But now a few weeks later I am having cutter's remorse and thinking about growing it out again.

How do you know what to do? I mean, I'm bored. But that doesn't mean I necessarily need a different style, I guess. I will say that with my short hair I get tons of compliments. No one ever says to me, hey, great chin length bob. But I think that's more because my short hair is more uncommon while many people have a bob or longer. My hair is super fine, so a bob is about the longest I can grow it. And it may very well be that the pixie is "my" cut, anyway. I am petite with a small face, big eyes, and delicate features. But...I miss having hair. But when I have (somewhat) longer hair, I don't usually think it looks very good, anyway. Sigh.

I know some will suggest a color change, etc., but my hair is very delicate and too much coloring can be damaging. And plus, I really like my natural color. I do highlight it occasionally.

Anyway, I don't know what I expect from this post except maybe a little sympathy. They always say, cut it, it's only hair. It'll grow! But they don't say, it'll take a long time, though, and look pretty bad in the meantime.
