I have a lot of hair so to save time, and avoid the big hair look, I scrunch dry my whole head and then only "curl" portions of the top bit. Maybe the only one! I like the first pic. Beachy waves look good on you. The second pic shows that your hair is flat on top... then it sort of goes out and <i>then </i>bends pretty sharply out from the head and comes down. For beachy waves, you want your hair to lay pretty flat against your head all the way through the bend down to mid ear. So you want to start the curl lower. This is a problem one gets with blow drying bobs too.
