Magda, as you've probably realized by now I'm blind and can't comment directly on pics, but I just had to say congratulations on taking the plunge!! I personally am always scared of radical hairstyle changes, and I'm super impressed with your willingness to rapidly evolve your style. It can be a tough journey sometimes, but you've no doubt realized by now that you're in the best hands possible.
Hope you love your new hair!

I think the picture looks good; the only thing to consider is that I would want that to be my maximum grown-out length, and not the length I cut it to. I often like to cut my hair about 1 or 2 inches shorter than I actually want it so I can save time and money on haircuts by going longer in between them. For you, I would still go a little shorter. I think I would also do more layers. But this might be a good intermediate step before a slightly shorter, more layered cut, to get you used to a shorter length and bangs.

I don't personally care for hair that goes past the bra band. It gets too tattered at the ends and weighed down. And layers are always necessary in my opinion, otherwise the ends just look heavy.

That said, I agree with what everyone has been saying. I think you'd look great in a sideswept fringe. I should say that I love how I look in a sideswept fringe as well: Functionality is a different issue for me though. I absolutely loathe having hair in my face or eyes. Some women don't have this problem. The hair stays conveniently out of their face and they never have to think about it. Or it falls in their face and it somehow doesn't bother them. I think Kyle and Shiny look sensational in their side fringes, but I honestly can't understand how they tolerate them! So, it's just something to keep in mind.

Your hair is very pretty! You don't have to do anything dramatic, but a few inches and some structure will make a big difference. You'll still have long hair, just updated and probably easier to dry and style. I know it's hard, I get attached to my long hair too! I don't think you'll regret it though!

I too have really thick heavy hair. My stylist (the owner of the salon) was showing another stylist how she cuts my hair because my stylist is pregnant and planning a maternity leave. She told her employee, "It took me a couple of cuts for me to realize that she has really thick straight hair and that I really have to thin/debulk it alot. And she (meaning me) is not afraid of it" My stylist goes in with a razor at the end of a cut and pulls out gobs of hair. If she did not my hair would be a triangle on my head.

But back on topic: The fact that your hair is super straight and thick tells me that your hair has not been properly thinned so that it lays well.

Hi Magda! (beautiful name, by the way) I think your hair might be just that tiny bit too long for you. I think you could stand to get three or four inches cut off and have long layers and side-swept bangs put into it.

These cuts might work quite well: http://slides.shoppinglifestyl.....impson.jpg
http://www.style-hair-magazine.....03_005.jpg
http://images.askmen.com/photos/paz-vega/84151.jpg

I quite like long hair but it doesn't work well if it is one mass of hair with no movement or shape to it.

My hair is super straight too, and I've found side swept bangs to work just great! In terms of not looking like your past haircut, I think the key is to have enough hair as part of your bangs so that you can't see your forehead through them. Does that make any sense? My bangs were too thin to begin with, and it wasn't until a significantly larger chuck of hair became bangs too that I was really happy with them.

I'm glad to hear that in Poland the more natural look is back in - the blunt asymmetrical bangs looked fab on some people and dreadful on many!

I think Chewyspaghetti has the right idea.

And since your hair is straight, bangs (regular or sideswept) seem like they would be great on/manageable for you.

I think worrying about how much gets cut off during a visit is pretty normal.

If you want to try to let go of some of that anxiety, it may help to remember that the longer the hair, the older the hair.

Because ends have been exposed to more sun, wind, chemicals in shampoos etc, they aren't the best part of anyone's hair, even if they are relatively undamaged.

I like to focus on how my hairdresser can make my newest and healthiest hair look good and function well for me. And I force myself to remember this anytime I leave thinking, "How did we go from 'take an inch off' to this?!"

You should work with the straightness, then! Someone who knows what they're doing with bangs should be able to give you a set that you're really happy with--straight hair makes bangs work so much better and more easily.

Oh I have the same thing- Asian straight hair! You have to find a good stylist who can work with it (just like people with really curly hair). Ask people who have similar hair texture where they get their hair cut. That's how I found my current stylist.

Thanks for your comment, Vix, but I'm afraid that my hair is extra straight and not really that coarse. I use a silk conditioner to make it softer, but without it my hair looks even more straight and heavy. My hair looks nothing like the celebrities you mentioned. Once when I went to a hairdresser she said to me that my hair is a bit similar to Asian hair texture.

I guess that a side swept fringe would look good, but I had some bad experience with hairdressers (when asked to cut 10 cm, they usually cut 30). I think I should start asking for someone reliable (in the fourth biggest Polish town there MUST be someone good and not that expensive, I hope).

Hmm, a good example of how does my hair react: 6 years ago I went to a hair stylist to turn my straight hair into pretty ringlets for one night. I spent 5 hours there! Unfortunately, my hair looked more wavy than curly and 3 hours later, it was straight again.

Hi Itari --

I actually think your face shape is oblong vs round...longer than it is wide, with a lovely curve at the bottom. At any rate, I don't see round at all!

You mentioned in another thread that your hair felt thick and heavy no matter what you did. As someone with thick, coarse and wavy hair I can tell you that when mine feels that way it is time for a "de-bulking" visit (regardless of whether I chop the length). Getting a simple straight across trim does nothing.

[And for me it really it needs to happen every 8 weeks.]

Unless you want to fight your natural texture -- some do -- my #1 piece of advice re hairstyles is to work with what you have.

In addition to "thick and heavy," I don't know if you have wavy hair? You mentioned past bang issues, which makes me suspicious, ha. The current length will really pull out any wave, but you could shower and pluck a wet hair and if it's bendy like an "S" there's your answer.

Of course a stylist should be able to help identify what you're working with!

The whole hair length thing is so personal I won't go there. Like the many other posters above, I *will* ditto recommendations to explore face-framing layers that transition to longer hair.

Especially if your hair has any wave, this will give you so much more bounce and movement. I've had everything from a pixie to below-bra band hair, and it hair went from looking "thick" to having defined waves once it hit my shoulders...who knew?

And not to harp but *if* your hair waves, this will (IMO) make traditional bangs a pain unless you are committed to a flat iron and avoid humidity.

Given what you report, I think styles like the below are apt to work better on you...but again, talk to a stylist about your hair's nature texture/wave pattern.

Jessica Alba: http://hair.lovetoknow.com/ima.....hair_2.jpg

Jennifer Aniston: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip18017.htm (scroll down to see her hair when it was your current length vs her usual style)

Penelope Cruz: http://www.gallery.becomegorge.....e-586.html

If your town has a beauty school that may be better than going to a super-inexpensive salon. Ask around for recommendations, too; these days a lot of stylists are cutting at home to make extra money and their rates for that are lower than their salon rates.

I like the retro feeling of this hair style. Sweet.

Like Ele, I'd love to see your hair a good deal shorter. Still long but just past the shoulder. You'd also rock a side swept fringe. How do you feel about those suggetsions, itari?

I think that really long hair can make a face look rounder: compared to a long sheet of hair, a face is pretty much always going to look kind of round. A shorter, layered look (maybe shoulder-blade length or a bit below) will reduce the sheet-look and lessen the contrast between the shape of the hair and the shape of the face. I think that this look also shows that a sideswept bang might work for you--if the stylist cuts them a little thicker and works with whatever cowlicks you might have, I bet you could make them reliably go to one side instead of splitting like a straight-across bang might.
