It sounds like you and I have similar hair - lots of it, thick, with weird wave. I just went back to a bob, and I'm really happy that I did. It takes so much less time to style because for whatever reason, this particular hairstyle just suits my hair. I do blow it dry, but then I just have to run the straightener through it quickly and I'm done. Any longer than chin length seems to be an enormous pain for me, even though I used to think that the opposite would be the case.

Thanks everyone. A lot of food for thought. I have about a week to whittle these ideas down to a handful that are not too demanding in terms of everyday styling

I giggled when I saw Angie's comment because my instinct was towards a mod bob too, but then I stopped and asked myself "am I only suggesting a bob because that's what *I* like?"

These photos are pretty much what I thought of for you:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_rH7U.....modbob.jpg

My hair isn't totally thick like yours, but I do have a ton of it. My hair stylist is very skilled at cutting lots and lots and lots of layers into my hair that don't necessarily look like I *have* a ton of layering. (My recent cut is different because this time I asked for lots of chunky and visible layers.)

Ornella, I always admire your magnificent head of healthy, thick and shiny hair!

In my eyes, you are a "mod bob gal" - that's my number one preference for your style :)

I vote nothing wispy. Keep it very sleek, modern and simple. These are merely suggestions, Ornella. I hope that I don't sound too bossy.

Ornella, I share your thick hair and every time I get it cut I get those remarks about how much of it there is.

I've been thinking about you and wishing I had some bright ideas. But I didn't. Then I came and saw Krishnidoux has given you a whole bucketful of options! (You are so right; we are soul sisters. But she is smarter than me and I look up to her!)

In terms of what will work easily for you, without a lot of product, I think you will have to discuss with your stylist, who will have intimate knowledge of the growth patterns and waves. From what I am hearing on this forum, the style that is a snap for one woman is a pain in the neck for the next; the styling that seems easy to one person is a nightmare of high maintenance to another!

I don't know how many layers you have in your current style but my experience as a thick haired person is that the placement and amount of layering can make a HUGE difference in terms of the "wearabliity" and ease of styling of a particular cut. Also, with short hair I need very frequent cuts to keep the shape the way it ought to be; there is a tendency for "puff" to develop.

Once I shared your worries about bobs that left hair all around and on the face.I'd had too many mouthfuls of hair in the past! But then I discovered that with the RIGHT kind of layering it is not annoying and always in my mouth or eyes; it's just where it should be. And can look terrific. So don't rule out styles that might look "forward" simply because of that; find out first if they can be styled in different ways and how they actually might feel if worn.

More ideas for you:

If you want to go on the short short side, which personally I think you would really enjoy as it reunites all your prerequisites, here are some ideas of style I think you would look classic and plain stunning in:

With little front bangs to open up your eyes and accentuate the cute roundness of your face:
http://www.thehairstyler.com/h.....ir_lengths

This statement due. It is strong and bold and classic:
http://www.thehairstyler.com/h.....ir_lengths

This can also be considered :
http://www.thehairstyler.com/h.....ir_lengths

But really, please consider this one. Diabolo Cody has similar facial features: http://www.thehairstyler.com/h.....ir_lengths

Ornella, my hair is thin but thinking about you and your style, I think you would like a layered bob as long as the layering is done shorter back/longer front, somewhat thinned sides. You can try something asymmetrical like this:
http://www.haircutshairstyles......-484.shtml
or
http://www.fashion-tips-and-tr.....tyles.html

Another shape that would suit your beautiful round face would be:

http://www.haircutshairstyles......-862.shtml

I realize you want hair away from face. However when the sides are thinned or textured, a few longer strands framing the face is very flattering and not bothersome, especially if you have the option to push it behind the ear.

Of course you can also go with the full mod bob that you would wear really well:
http://urfashions.com/fashion/bob-haircut-style/
or a softer version:
http://awonderfuleverything.bl.....-hair.html

Your hair sounds very similar to mine! Very thick and with random wavy sections. I keep mine long because I'm lazy and don't like to wash it every day. I found with short hair it had to be washed and style every day. I can't tell you what would work best though. I usually find some pictures I like and then discuss them with my hairstylist - will this work with my hair, my face shape, how much work is the style, etc. We can usually come up with something if we talk about it before she starts cutting.

I have a hair appointment in just over a week and I’d like to hear your ideas. I’ve worn my hair like I have it now for quite a while, I vary length, how much it’s layered, where the parting is, but in essence things have been pretty much the same for long enough.

I’d like to hear whatever came to your mind first, and then eventually if you come up with anything else after reading
just
a
few
minor
pointers:

- My hair is very thick and I have a lot of it. Every single hairstylist I have ever went to always comments how much hair I've got. Lots of hair = lots of work Btw, it lends itself beautifully for anything spiky and harsh looking, which is a no-no in my book.
- It’s also wavy in the most random places, like around my ears. Yup, having hair up neat and tidy is often quite a thing to achieve, hence it happens very rarely if ever.
- I don’t like hair products (hairsprays, foam, wax, clay, anything) except those I use when washing it (shampoo, conditioner, Moroccan oil).
- Low maintenance is a key – I am lazy when it comes to hair styling AND above all seriously lack imagination AND of course there is no such think as YHLF forum where I could learn some tricks. Regular blow-drying which is a must to tame it and occasional ironing is all I have some idea how to do. And time for.
- I like my hair away from the face.
- Long is out of question as it’s too much work and I’ve realized that having it in ponytail approximately 5/7 days a week is a complete nonsense.
- If there are not enough restrictions already, for the reasons that include body contentiousness, I like my hair ideally covering my neck, however I am willing to consider some ideas for maybe shorter dos… if there’s anything else left for me to try after listing all the “guidelines”.

Oh, yes, one good thing I actually can say about my hair: it actually holds well whatever I do with it.

Ideas? Anyone?
