Thanks Meredith! If I do want something like this done then I want it to look really subtle, but I keep changing my mind and wanting to stick with my current style, just because I know it works so its less risky I will have to ask my hairdresser as well about it when I'm getting my next trim

I think I'd shy away from the highlights, especially if you want a drastic change. The highlights you describe will be subtle, expensive to maintain and expensive to correct if you hate them. Start with the cut and add highlights later if you still want more drama.

Yeah I agree, my hair is already jet black so I can't go any lower than that... But if I do get highlights I want a very dark brown so that it looks as if it does when it catches the light.

Also, another issue is that my hair is so dark, sometimes there are blue tinges to it in some pictures. But when it catches the light the black does show some dark brown shades on occasion.

I just keep changing my mind because its a big step for me and I like my hair right now, I just don't want to regret getting it done like this.

I have a hard time judging what cuts work with what face style, so I'm no help there. But, I think you should consider going to a salon and asking them about which cut would work. I think if you go more natural with your highlights, or try lowlights, that will help avoid looking tacky.

Hi!

I have been thinking about changing up my hairstyle because I have never done anything drastic with it... I was thinking of getting dark brown, very subtle highlights in my hair as well as a long side fringe.

I've always been skeptical with putting highlights in black hair because I think its very easy to look tacky with black being such a bold and unique colour that is hard to blend with other shades subtly.

So I just wanted some advice. I am going back and forth with this decision and right now I'm thinking to just leave it because black hair suits my skin tone (south Asian brown) and I do have black eyebrows. Also I am still due to lose my baby fat on my face (sad times) so I don't know if the addition of the side fringe would make me look fatter?

I'd really appreciate some advice.

Thank you!
