Looks great! Transitional trims are so hard to get just right. Sounds like you have an excellent hairdresser.

Like you and Jules, my hair is getting long-ish for the first time in a long time (more than a decade of pixies and short bobs). I've let my bangs grow out for the first time since high school. If I don't chop, I might be close to shoulder length by spring (my hair grows slooowly).

I can't wait to see some updates from you along the way! I'm totally hair-illiterate and will need some inspiration. I love the idea of those loose, casual up-dos that women like LR make looks so easy, but I have no idea how to do it. I've only ever managed the utilitarian-sporty ponytail. Of course, I may get the urge to chop before my hair gets long enough, anyway.

Linda Rodin reminds me of my science idol, a professor at Yale who just always looks so classy and graceful (and has been leading her field of research for 50 years). Her style is much more restrained than Rodin's but something similar comes through - especially the updo. Excellent choice of fashion inspiration, and your hair looks great.

That is a great haircut! You have a great, full, head of hair -- very enviable. It will be fun to follow your styling journey with longer hair.

Jules, thanks for that info on how you did yours. I can picture what you're describing, and it's helpful. I've been thinking about something similar. I think I could twist some parts of it and pin them back, even if they don't fit into the bun or ponytail. Also, that photo is super cute and a good idea. I'll have to start a Pinterest board on updos, too.

Thanks, Rachylou, Staysfit, Suz, and Vivian, for the votes of confidence!

I have a friend who is doing something similar. She's also greying and decided to stop dying her hair. She's one of these people who just make it look "effortless" so I never really thought about it being a style I could try until this thread. It's been really hot this summer so my newly long-enough hair has been back in a pony a lot, just pulled straight back, it looks very unfinished and I've been unhappy about it. Yesterday based on the Rodin photo I tried a middle part, twisting two small sections at the front then pulling it all back, getting some of that volume at the back of the crown. It looked decent and definitely more intentional for very low effort (which is about how much patience I have for hair). I even got a compliment from a friend when I left the house, lol. I watched a braiding youtube that talked about wanting less-clean, 2nd day hair to create good braids - I think that might apply here as well. No idea about the back, other than a simple pony.
This might all be super obvious info to the rest of the world, but it wasn't to me Thanks for this thread!

Thanks, all, for your encouragement.

Jenn, your hair is quite a bit longer than mine right now, and I always think yours looks great. Are you growing yours longer?

Jules, we'll have to learn how to do it. There are very few photos that show how Linda Rodin's hair is styled in the back. But whatever she does I couldn't manage yet, with mine as short as it is.

Texstyle, Kikidee, and LACeleste, I'm glad to hear your support from experience.

Una, Angie, Style Fan, Chewyspaghetti, thank you!

Mauvish, how sweet of you, and thanks for chiming in!

Jaime and Nadya, LR is an inspiration for sure. I really like her style and yet I would never have thought of her without Angie's suggestion on my style icon thread.

Here's an update to my recent hair boredom post. Today I got my hair trimmed. I showed my "hair boredom" thread and my Pinterest board of haircut ideas to my stylist, along with photos of my style icon (thanks to you all!), Linda Rodin. My stylist is the best. She advised me on which short styles would work for me, and we picked the one we liked the best. When she saw Linda Rodin, though, she was wowed. We decided to keep growing my hair, with the aim of getting it long enough to wear up sometimes. As it grows, I am going to experiment with putting it up in ways that I can manage at this length. I've scheduled my next appointment for December.

So here it is, not much changed, but I'm looking forward to trying longer hair!
