Nomad, I was afraid to try oral minoxidil because of the potential side effects as well as any possible hormonal interference that could affect my diabetes. You just reminded me I have a few bottles of a topical minoxidil treatment that I bought a while ago but didn’t follow through with because I was severely depressed at the time and barely even brushing my hair. Now all I have to do is find them…

Essential oils combined with frequent scalps massages really do work wonders! I have fine but high density hair and suffer from stress/hormonal related hair loss. It grows back faster and stronger the more I massage it and apply oils like peppermint, rosemary and several others. I never tried hair toppers but am currently experimenting with wigs and headscarves after a particularly severe hair loss episode. Best of luck and let us know how they work out for you!

I think you mean toppers like these?

https://www.highlinewigs.com/s.....op+Toppers

Basically mini-wigs that just cover the top of your scalp (and they come in all different sizes, depending on the coverage you want/need). Different from extensions, which I agree aren't helpful if you don't have the thickness up top to cover the clips. But toppers are exactly made for thinning crowns (or thinning all over), and a good topper can look completely natural.

I've played with them a little, though my hair hasn't gotten quite thin enough yet to wear them regularly (it's been somewhat thin with no obvious cause since at least my late twenties, sometimes a little better and sometimes a little worse, though I don't think most people but me --and my dad -- notice). I feel better knowing they're an option. Highline Wigs has a great Instagram account with lots of gorgeous women wearing toppers and wigs (sometimes showing them with their natural hair and with the topper so you can see the difference), here: https://www.instagram.com/highlinewigs/

My primary care doctor asked at my recent physical if my hair was getting thin, and asked if I'd like to try medication for it (it was, and I did). I've been on oral minoxidil for about two months now, not enough time to tell what the results will be because hair is sloooooooow. But I've noticed a difference in all my other hair, which is a mixed blessing (so far worth the very slight extra hassle, and I have fuller brows and more than 3 undereye lashes for the first time in my life!). I *think* I have a lot more baby hairs coming in around my hairline, so I'm hopeful. Minoxidil isn't right for everyone given potential side effects, it doesn't work for everyone, and you have to stay on it to keep the effects, but if you're interested in exploring that or other options, find an understanding doctor and ask (lots of dermatology practices are well-versed in hair, too). I had some very unsympathetic (male) doctors so I'd given up on asking, but my primary care doctor is female and sympathetic.

Peri on "hair ?"

I have tried various clip ins...not cheap ones either... to help with some fullness for updos and have not had any great success. The problem is a catch 22...if you really need them you can't use them. If your hair is thin enough that you really want to look at these products, it's too thin to cover the clips and they leave an obvious bump or even worse, the clips themselves peek through. Added in ear level or below works better because there is more hair still above them to hide the clips, but if your thinness is higher than that...as is true for most hair thinning...then they don't work very well.

If you are referring to something other than the clip in strands, I can't answer as this is all I've tried. I will be very curious to see if you find something that works!

I work in vitamins, and a very simple, noninvasive, cheap thing you can do is apply rosemary essential oil daily to the spots you want thicker. 60 seconds or so, with the goal of opening up those follicles--rub it with your fingers on those areas.

I have not tried hair toppers, but my hair is getting thinner, too.

Hair topper as in the sprays or clip-in pieces? I’ve done clip-ins, because I like Princess Leia braids and my hair is too fine and short.

Anyone tried or use hair toppers? I have been getting a lot of pop up adds for these lately-because I am old? Anyhow I do have a thinner spot on the pack of my head from a couple of spots of skin cancer removal scars. However it does not look like a bald spot as other hair covers it. I have fine hair and do not have good luck with thickening products. These things are getting tempting.
