If you get really fine highlights mixed with lowlights it grows out more naturally and the dimension is pretty without a ton of maintenence. I also have straight fine hair and have found that adding highlights provides some volume so it doesn't lay as flat against the scalp. I only use minimal lightweight products like fine mist hairspray or a dry shampoo for volume. I love the look of bangs and have them off and on but they are definitely a commitment to have trimmed every few weeks. Since my hair is so fine they can end up looking oily fast if they lay against my forehead or if I touch them. It's a fast but dramatic way to change your look so if you want to ease into it you could do the straight lob first, decide if you want to add color second and then third add bangs if you need even more of a change. And if you want to dye, then better to pick the color that is close or relates to your natural and that gonna be perfect changing. The same thing is with the straight/curly question. The closer to the original -- the lesser possibility to mess your appearance. Though, that's not the rule, that's the recommendation for daily use.
