Thanks, all! It looks like the votes are split, but Angie votes bob, so... *g*

Okay, here goes! I will keep you updated on my progress. Maybe monthly grow out pics where you can talk me down from chopping it all off again.

I say if your bored then do something different! I think the hardest part about growing out a pixie that short IS the growing out process...I have a couple friends with them that give up midway and chop it all off again lol.

But you look great with a pixie too!

I have had short and mid length hair and just spent the last few months "trying" to grow (willing my hair to grow faster lol) the last of a few layers of a layered/shaggier bob to a one length bob. My goal was to be able to wear a ponytail. It didn't work - I couldn't take it anymore and went shorter again but not all the way to pixie.

I think an updated variation on your current style and maybe a semi-perm color might be fun. I like how color gives my fine hair a little more texture. Both styles are flattering for you really!

If you're bored, go ahead and grow it out! You can always snip back if you find it getting out of hand, and even a little bit of extra length can allow for a new hairstyle until you are bob-able (which, by the way, looks mighty sleek on you).

For the growing pains, try something to style it spikier for a bit? add a hairband or three? Add curls (often looks less messy than an outgrown straight pixie)?

I think the pixie cut looks really good on you. I can understand getting bored though, and am wondering about changing the shape and/or even the colour - just for a change of pace.

The one thing I notice is that the pixie really makes your eyes stand out!

The bob looks beautiful on you too - and in terms of growing hair - mine grows like crazy, and I have to echo Mo on this one - I think it's because there's a good amount of healthy fats in my diet. Fish, olive oil, avocadoes, nuts and the like. I've never tried a hair supplement, so can't say whether they make a difference or not. My hair grows almost too fast.

Having said that, I recently got a haircut that I don't like, and was researching around to find out how long it might take to grow out some layers that I really didn't want - and it turns out that on average, hair grows about half an inch per month. So, if you were wondering how long it would take to get to the 'chin length bob' length - you could just measure where your hair is now, and the difference between the two to get an approximate idea of how long it would take to grow it out to the length you're considering.

And again, to potentially speed up the process, eat more fat in your diet. This doesn't mean blowing your diet or anything, just that fats are good for your hair, nails, brain and so on. Think: salmon, avocado, walnut oil, olive oil, that kind of thing. Measured portions to be sure, but I eat these kinds of things on a regular basis and my hair grows faster than I can keep up with sometimes (I have bangs and it drives me nuts that I have to go and get them trimmed practically every three weeks). I don't think you need to buy supplements. Your hair will grow approximately 1/2" per month on average, and if you up the fats in your diet, it'll probably grow a lot more/faster than that.

I would either change up the pixie (shape/style) or consider a colour change just to alleviate the boredom factor, or as you said - consider growing it out to a chin-length bob again. Both look very good on you, but I have a slight preference for the pixie because of the way it highlights your beautiful blue eyes. Try flipping between your pixie pic and your bob pic, and see if you can notice the difference in terms of just how flattering the pixie is in terms of making your eyes stand out. Just some food for thought.

Thank you, Mo! And growing my hair is a great excuse to eat more fat. Kristine and Suz, I have tweaked the style over the last couple of years with color and different bangs, etc. But it's still...short. *g* Kristin, thanks for the advice on hair accessories. I'm pretty bad at them, but I'm sure they help during those awkward phases!

Suz, I remember encouraging you to cut your hair because of the cute pixie you sport on your website, so I totally understand the pixie love. If only I could go back and forth, because I do love it - I just missing having hair! My hair is very fine, so the shaggy thing probably wouldn't work for me. Mostly when I've grown out my hair in the past, I do the tuck behind the ears thing until it grows into a bob. That is the part I'm dreading.

Both styles look great. I prefer the pixie, but then I wear one, so I would!

You could always change the front shape if you like.

The last time I grew out my short hair I had some success with a sort of layered shaggy cut as it was growing. The painful period seemed more bearable. Depends on your hair's texture, though, I expect, whether that would work.

The pixie looks cute on you, but I totally hear you when you say you're ready for a change. If you grow it out, invest in clip and maybe a soft headband or two. I've grown my hair out a couple of times when I was tired of my pixie cut, but wasn't sure what I wanted. Make sure you take your vitamins, but I've never taken another supplement for my hair and I've never had much problem getting it to grow.

Hi all! I need some hair advice, and I'm no good at being objective about my own hair.

I have had a pixie, which I've loved, for a couple of years now. That's longer than I've had any one haircut, and I'm starting to get pretty bored with it. I've tweaked it a bit here and there, but still bored. Is that reason enough to grow it out? I'm thinking of the awkward bordering on terrible growing out period, here. I know it will take me 6-8 months to get where I want to be (a chin length bob, that's all I'm asking for! ;-))

I've included a pic of what my hair looks like now (excuse the no make-up), and here is a link to me with a short bob:

What do you think? And if I do grow it out, tips are appreciated. Does biotin really help it grow faster? Does anything?
