I've never been into an H&M before. I didn't buy anything, but I was pleasantly surprised to find sales racks starting at $5, and also that their clothing fit me really well. I will be back, especially when they open the second store. At the time there was no Whole Foods or even Ikea within reasonable driving distance. Tampa has acquired both those and more recently Zara & Crate & Barrel , so I'm hoping one of these days.... Forever 21 and the like are still not the same as H&Ms and I shop (a LOT) at H&M when I happen to be anywhere near one. The fuschia blazer I tried on goes all the way back to January and it was still there (OK well there was only one left, but still). I also saw a lot of stuff I remember seeing months ago, including a crazy purple mod dress I bought that is now $15. Everything was grouped by price. There was a $10 rack and a couple of $15 racks. The bag was on a rack with a mishmash of discounted accessories. There were 3 kinds of bags, all crossbodies, and all of them were $10. Ele, I *love* the wood frame on that bag. It's so unique and even the way it looks when open is just so elegant. I'm utterly paranoid about carrying clutches though. I have a unique talent at losing things and leaving important stuff behind on trains. Branded differently, though. (Possibly by the same supplier?) I just love the wooden clutch-y bit. Like you, though, clutches aren't that practical for me, so I probably won't purchase unless it goes on sale or something. Agreed about the quality thing, you can find a variety at most stores. I have mixed feelings about M&N becoming so expensive. On one hand, I think it's great that they have shown that vegan bags can be as stylish, impeccably made, and beautiful as leather bags. But at the same time, by making them at such an inaccessible price point, they are alienating so many people, including their loyal fans. Forgive my idealism, but it bugs me. Their bags used to be much more reasonably priced, and were adored by style-conscious vegans, who were really lacking in quality options. It would be nice if they could have something for everyone, but I guess I'm living in a dream world. Well, at any rate, *I* don't mind "cheap" faux leather and there are plenty of non-faux-leather options, especially in the summer. SO great for $10! I completely agree that sometimes H&M can surprise you with its quality. I bought a safari-style cotton jacket there (spring/fall weight) about 4 years ago, and it's still going strong. I think working in high street production also opened my eyes to this issue a lot. You can't really say "x store has high/low quality" as the products carried in most stores like H&M are actually manufactured by a huge range of suppliers, some of which are better than others. So yeah, it totally varies. OT, but I could NOT believe how expensive Matt & Nat bags have got last time I saw one. When they first started (before anyone outside of Canada had heard of them), they were really reasonable. I had two Mat & Nat bags in high school or soon after, but there is no way I'd be able to afford one now. Crazy. I do every once in a while find something that is a step above the rest though. That vest, for example, is quite well made considering the price. And my silk Marimekko top wasn't half bad for $19. Since I only wear vegan bags finding anything "high quality" is going to be a stretch, unless I shell out the money for Matt and Nat (not in this lifetime). I actually have an H&M bag from many years ago...probably 2003 or 2004...that I still wear. It is tomato red, barrel-shaped, with a big bow and kisslock closure and white polkadot lining. Girly to the extreme. The frame part is discolored now though, and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have the perfect outfit to use it with. Been thinking about Mod a lot lately :) Chris, the bag was knocked down from $20. Even if it's not on sale it's definitely a steal. Go go go! I thought you all came up with a new acronym while I was out for 2 days. There is definitely a nice selection at the moment. It's definitely boho, but not over the top and hippie-ish. There was one boho top I really liked. It was smocked around the bust and floated away from there and had a very cute colorful print. Of course bust smocking would be the absolute worst thing I could do to myself, but I'm sure it would be adorable on someone else. I found the fuschia blazer I tried on ages ago at the YLF convention there for $15 (but it was only in a 34...booooo!). There was also a white cross body bag...not as small as Angie's but not much bigger either. Could easily hold a book, wallet, keys, phone, and compact. At $10, I couldn't resist. I really wanted one ever since Angie's post and it was cheap and vegan, so a winner all around. There were also a few smaller cross body bags--one red and one teal--that were smaller, also on sale for $10. They also had lots of banded tops and boho pieces (nice, cute boho things...not "sloppy"). It took me a lot of self control not to buy more. A whole lot. But, if you feel like experimenting with banded tops but don't want to spend a lot of money on something you're not sure of, you should really head down there. Forever 21 (specifically, the Love 21 line) also has some cheap banded tops.
