"… we are doing this to show off the garments.”

PFFT! Your logic is not like our earth logic. Behold, H&M:

Statement 1: a "garment" = a product with the function of covering and flattering a human body.

Statement 2: "showing off" an item = demonstrating its functions and qualities.

If 1 and 2 hold true, then "showing off" a "garment" = demonstrating how the garment covers and flatters a human body.

Therefore, a garment cannot be shown off on an inhuman body. If the product CAN be adequately "shown off" on an inanimate object, then it is not, in fact a "garment."

(insert death glare here)

I think we all know that photos are routinely retouched or 'enhanced' in some way, but it's a good reminder to make sure that our daughters, nieces, etc are aware of it too. I guess retailers think that they couldn't sell their garments if they were shown on 'real' women...

As long as it is clear it are manequins, I am fine with it. I do educate my DD13 and DD6 about the issue of photoshoped pictures. The other day I saw this link on facebook http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/fa.....ns/pnas11/ and it shows again how pictures can be distorted. For instance this one. I prefer the before picture.

I figure they should just leave it looking like a mannequin if they are going to use mannequins. But as for using 'real' models, I have to say with the commonplace practice of plastic surgery being used by so many people, models or not, what's 'real' anymore anyway? I understand not wanting to have your kids emulate the unattainable, but I don't look at mannequins in malls and think I should look like them, so I see the computer mannequin in much the same way. The magazines full of celebs are way more damaging to body image, I believe. But now I'm getting off tangent . . .sorry!
At least they are telling us this is what they are doing.

All this does is make me think the clothes don't flatter anyone if even models have to be replaced with CGI! Not a great advert.

Another side note...but why would a model need to sing anyway?

It's pathetic that even these thin, young, beautiful women aren't good enough for them.

Tangentially related, I was watching (yes, I know....) America's Next Top Model and they all had to record a song and do a video. They were all absolutely awful singers. I mean, I now feel much better about my decidedly off-key voice.

But after they ran those girls' voices through filter after filter and audio tuned them, well they actually sounded like they could sing. Pretty sad. I mean, if you really _can_ sing is there even a point if you're not drop dead gorgeous?

Ha! This is probably a cost-cutting measure. And why not? They photo-shop model's bodies too, so why even start with something real. Pretty sad state though, isn't it.

That angers and saddens me. Why not use real models (of varying sizes)? I do understand that they want to flatter the clothes, show them off well - which they can do on actual women! Is it a cost thing...?! I'm at a loss for why they are resorting to CGI. At least the info is made public! Women should be aware that the bodies are not real.

I plan to teach my kid that media is pretty much a fantasy, just like a cartoon like Avatar the Last Airbender or a live-action movie like Narnia. She can't be Ang or Aslan, because they aren't real -- just like fashion models.
