I had bought my 7 yr-old daughter a Jansport backpack for school, but the size was too wee. So I repurposed it for a minimalist gym bag. I have it in a periwinkle blue. I work out 2x/week and do not shower at gym, but the backpack would easily fit shower items. Generally I wear my workout clothes+shoes to the gym and use the bag for a lock, all my purse stuff (wallet, keys, phone); some rubber bands, a lock, ipod shuffle and earbuds, and workout notes.

Oh yeah . Rolling suitcases are now the thing at the medical fitness centre I do a side gig at . The dolled - up older ladies love them . Clattering along like they are in the Palm Springs airport . Cracks me up .

Some bags have straps you can add a yoga mat to, but it would stick way out in front and back. I have one, but too small for all my other stuff. There of course are yoga mat bags, or straps to carry them too.
No real graceful solution that I've found-yet!

I like seeing your packing systems. Rolling suitcases?! Sounds like a pretty good idea actually.

I am the person with a reusable tote bag and assorted things (mat, bottle, keys etc in my hands).

This huge one that's actually a cooler bag- from Walmart of all places!
In there: gym shoes, walking sandals, gear, makeup kit, bum bag, and I toss my purse in there too. It's hard to stuff into a locker, but is big enough to stuff all my winter layers in. I have a smaller bag for the pool too, about half the size.

What Lisap said. Small rolling suitcases are popular at the Y these days (mums and seniors).

I use a Lululemon duffle-ish thing. Demi shaped, flat bottom, top handled , black faux leather. I've had it for years - and switch it out for hot pink in the summer. I do the yoga mat roll thing between the handles as Carla desribes above. I'm not sure there really is any "right" gym bag. I've seen people use plastic shopping bags ........lol

The big gym bag is used most of the time, and fits a change of clothes, 3 pair of shoes, as well as gym kit. I have to give it a good shove to get it into the narrow lockers at the YMCA, or at other gyms I frequent. The smaller kit bag is perfect for swim kit, or if I'm not planning on showering/changing at the gym. I use a strappy thing that loops over the ends of my yoga mat so it can be carried cross body, but I like to roll it and stick it between the handles of my kit bag as well. Both bags came from Winners - under $40 CAD for the big bag, and under $20 for the smaller one. Both are light weight. I use a gym bag almost daily and both are in good shape and show no wear though both are about 5 YO.

When I worked I did lunch hour workouts at places close to my work. One gym let me keep a locker where I left my shoes and a basket of toiletries. When I changed gyms (due to relocating) I kept a full toiletries kit in a drawer at my desk. The gym had a towel service for $50/yr. Less stuff to schlep back and forth.

I am a regular gym goer now *fingers crossed* and would like to know how you all tote your gear. I would ideally like a bag that can accommodate a yoga mat but it is not required. I go straight from work, so need a place to stash my clean clothes and shoes within the bag.
