Thanks for the update!

Instead of "developing my feminine style" now, I'm reaching back decades to reinstate a retired uniform of chinos, dress boots, chunky belts and men's dress shirts. Right now, I need to have it as easy as men do.

I'll still have dresses on hand for events, but that's an area where FFBOs come pretty easily to me. The main source of stress has been for day to day wear and semi-casual outings.

Glad your layers worked out so well. Layers, I'll definitely be incorporating them in this round of style plateau!

I SOOO get it! Never mind a trip to the theater, what about vacation packing? We went to Portugal for 2 weeks in the spring and I was agonizing over my travel wardrobe and packing for weeks, taking picture, asking YLF for advice, even trying to wear the travel selection for a week at home to road-test it. My sweetie? He packed on the night before we we leaving and spend the whole of 0.5 hour to throw all his stuff into the suitcase...on the other hand he did not mind to war the same things for days until I forced him to change for something new, me - I had to wear something different every day to keep myself happy...
Men do have it easy...

Luckily we tend not to go places where I cannot wear jeans and a tee. Unfortunately, that is my formula. That said, when we have to dress up, I have options and he either looks under-dressed or is uncomfortable and doesn't look as nice because he hasn't bothered to update his smart casual or dress clothing.

End of the saga...

Yes, it happened exactly as I predicted. I thought about it all morning and DH got dressed in 5 minutes flat!

I did go with similar to Gaylene's suggestion. A cami/sheer blouse combo and my faux fur vest. It was hot in the auditorium and at one point I unbuttoned the blouse and wore it loose and open...an option DH didn't have, so that was a little bit of revenge. And it had cooled off enough to need the vest when we got out.

I'm still happy with the growing options of my wardrobe and the way I had choices today, better than in the past. But really, men just have it easy!

Laughing at Gaylene's story. But hers is a brilliant solution.

This happens at our house, too, especially in transitional seasons (fall and spring). Urgh. I have tried to do as Beth Ann suggests, but it's not always easy. I don't tend to repeat venues, if you know what I mean. So what works for one won't necessarily work for another. I do find that looking through my WIW pics can sometimes help in those moments.

I so get this!

First: I love the idea of vest in your wardrobe. I layer a menswear style over my sheer tops and my turtlencks, too! I do if for style and silhouette, but they can also add warmth.

Also, I'd suggest making some "event FFBO' outfits, based upon temperature and environment. For example, I like to focus on the upper half when I'll be sitting at a dinner, outfits that look good shoe-less if I'm going to someone's house and will be asked to remove footwear, walking comfort if I'm going to a concert in the city.

Snap pics and put them together so you can preview and choose from the pic before the event.

And send DH out on an errand to get him out of your hair!

Oh, this sounds familiar, Peri. My husband used to stare at me in bewilderment as his formerly reasonably sane wife went berserk tossing clothes left and right while muttering "too hot, too cold, doesn't look right tucked/untucked, too baggy/tight for these pants..."

My only solution, apart from commiseration, has been a couple of silk tops I bought specifically to go with those comfortable pants. I actually wore said pants to the shops and literally tried on hundreds of tops in order to find two that met my requirements. But that effort had a huge payoff. If it's cold, out come the sweater tunics; if it's warm, out come the silk tops. Now, it's just deciding what cuff and earrings I want to wear.

I figure sometimes we women can take some wardrobe inspiration from the males in our lives!

Can't live with them, can't live without them!

My husband is the same way. I get really hot or really cold and so have to plan carefully, like you. We go to a community theater production every month, and have to walk several blocks in the cold and wind. So I need to dress warm enough for that, but also in layers so I can peel off a layer, yet still look decent, if the theater is hot. The last few times I've been comfortable in slacks, a really light cashmere sweater with a scarf, and my giant puffer coat for the walk.

Ack! Making up our minds is hard work, isn't it? Layers sounds like a good solution if the auditorium runs hot.
My DH does the same thing. Except about 10 min. before we are supposed to leave, he says, "Did you iron an outfit for me when you ironed yours?" No. No I did not.

We are going to a concert this afternoon. What to wear?

My thought process: have to wear my knit pants so I can sit more comfortably (which is just my issue, but the rest of this is relatable I'm sure), so that means longer top. But it has turned warm and the auditorium is known for being hot, so my new tunic sweaters are out. So a long sheer blouse from Spring/Fall? And then a coat or vest in case it is cooler than I think, or cools off later? Which blouse looks least Spring? Maybe that is going too far to cool, go with the vest so I can leave it on inside? Do I want a scarf, or jewelry? I guess that will depend on which blouse, if I can ever make up my mind.

DH's (lack of) thought 10 minutes before we leave: trousers, shirt, grab a jacket, "are you ready, let's go!"

Grrrr.
