I'm with IK; thought you meant the stuff that goes over the teeth and was popular a few years back. Guess I've been living in Oaktown too long. And see Fruitvale Station if you can. The movie shows *my* market.

I do the grilling in our house as well. My vote goes to gas, quicker and easier clean up for sure. Along the lines of what Mandipa suggested, I also use a smoker box in my grill with wood chips sometimes - it's a steel box with holes in the top that you fill with wood ships and place under the cooking grate. Before I got a proper box, I would put the wood chips in heavy duty aluminum foil. You can just google "smoker box gas grill" and lots of options come up. May I also suggest looking into getting a beer-butt chicken holder? It has become my favorite way to make an entire chicken (and you don't even need to use beer - apple juice, ginger ale, dr.pepper all work great too).

Mandipa, what an innovative idea! I bet that women in India would ready for more convenience and better air quality, but foods do taste so good with a little bit of caveman fire and smoke!

I have a smoky flavour trick if you go with gas. Light up a piece if charcoal or wood chips in the gas flame and pop into small bowl with a little oil or butter? which goes into large roasting tin. Resting meats sit around bowl in tray tented with foil---come out smoky. It's what many if us learnt to do for special dishes as households transitioned from coal or wood stoves to gas in the last few decades in India.

And IK, I think the mouth grill might be just the thing the next time I sing Handel's Messiah. I mean, who says that bling is just for rappers?

I personally much prefer to grill on a gas grill. However, I am lucky in that I do not have grill duty in our house, and DH wants "real fire" (insert eyeroll here). He has a great big charcoal grill with an attached smoker for when he wants to do that, too.

He swears he can tell the difference in flavour, but I can't. I think both gas and charcoal grills make great tasting food, and the gas grill is so much cleaner and easier IMO.

Oh man, I thought you meant a tooth grill.

You should buy a BiolIte stove. It burns anything and there's a really good grill accessory; it's also lightweight for camping and can charge your cell phone.
http://www.biolitestove.com/ca...../features/

We have a Weber Performer. It's charcoal with a gas (small propane tank) starter. We use a chimney starter in emergencies (forgot to buy propane), but the gas starter is so much easier and cleaner. You can't get the flavor of a real fire with a gas grill. We use hardwood lump charcoal.

We do gas. It's cleaner, quicker and easier. The Charbroil Infrared ones come in a small apartment size that sears great steaks.

We have a small portable one that uses charcoal & a bigger gas one. We use the gas one most often but the little one does make the food taste better imo.

I don't think I would ever grill if I had to make fire with briquets. The gas grill is SO easy , quick and convenient. I think if I was retired and wasn't rushing around like a crazy person, I'd have time to master the briquets but for now, I don't think so. The gas grill is awesome for a quick meal and doesn't heat up the house. Personally, I'd get whatever you will use the most.

I'm in the market for an inexpensive grill. DH votes for charcoal, and I do love the flavor, as compared to gas, but DH isn't likely to take the cooking duties often (don't worry --- we find other honey-do jobs for him!). Do I:

1. Buy charcoal and a chimney starter and master the fire!
2. Buy gas, because it's faster and easier, and I'll use it more often

Advice please!
