I've moving away from grey. I've decided that it just fights my coloring too much. I tend to love it on others -- particularly blondes. It is still very sophisticated, cool and elegant, which makes it a perfect choice for your look and style. Go for it.

As for my wardrobe colors? The thing I've noticed is that my I've tended to the same colors for most of my life. The shades and combinations change with style, but underneath I'm still a jewel girl. I love sapphire/cobalt, which can spin off into ink in winter and chambray in summer. I adore teal, which can lighten to aqua in summer. I love berry tones and grown-up pink, which deepens to garnet (or next year, Marsala) in winter. It's the neutrals that mess me up. I need to learn to use neutrals in a more modern way, particularly with jewel tones, as the black + jewel formula isn't always just right.

I've just begun to get into grey. It's so versatile and yet looks chic and considered. I was off it for decades because of my school uniform, but now it's back in the closet!

Excellent musings here. I like your grey collection and I'm seeing blue-greys and creamy-greys assembled here for variety and blending purposes. So, if you added more charcoal grey to your collection, is it possible to get different tones in this darker shade of grey?

I tend toward blues in all shades, from faded denim to medium range and dark navy.

What's wonderful about your love for grey is that your preferences for soft, drapey materials and fabrications brings out the beautiful nuances of this color.

Well, I love grey too Deborah, and have about an even number of grey verses navy in my closet.
I think it plays very well with our blue eyes (and the grey in my hair).
And of course it looks good with your black and white too!

As I've posted recently, I'm a huge fan of grey, so I really look forward to following your outfit posts and I love every shade you have! I used to wear black constantly and lately I feel it is somewhat too harsh on my aging complexion and hair. (Also, we have a white cat - as well as 2 black cats - his adoption of us 18 months ago has had a lot to do with my move away from black, sadly....)

I love grey and with my hair light grey/silver seems to work really well. Some darker ones too. The surprise color in my closet right now is a sort of warm camel - I think ever since Angie started introducing cognac, this color family has multiplied. There is no question my color choices are evolving with my coloring, although light blue might still be my best color.

I think an outfit of whites and greys would be glorious on you. I can remember a time when everything was black or brown. Now brown seems to have been replaced by grey. I like the clear greys and like them with other neutrals, brights, pastels, jewel tones...anything. They seem easier to mix with a color than black. For example, I don't like the look of red with black without some white, but red and grey seems to work.

My closet has more blush than I think, but I would even like a few more pieces...tonal blush. What I don't have is much blue other than denim, or green.

I think you look wonderful in gray. I've never liked it for myself until this last year and the lighter grays appeared in the stores. I still don't like dark gray, but with my changing hair color--now getting grayer--I find I don't mind wearing this color. I also find the fabric makes a difference. Dark gray flannel depresses me, but I just bought two pairs of lighter gray jeans and I love them--and they work with almost every one of my tops.

I realize that as we progress through our lives we need to be willing to recognize and accept change in both ourselves and in fashion and culture and keep an open mind. What we would never have worn a decade or so in the past now seems to be just right if we are willing to give it a chance.

Deborah, I think gray is a great color for you, looks great and as a "light black", it works with your style too! Gray is similar for me - it sneaks into my closet when I'm not looking. Some days it feels blah, others just right. I especially like it combined with some white for brightness. I love the versatility of it, and it's a good color on me.

If the white jeans don't work for you in the end, could you try dying them a light gray?

You have lots of grey! Looking forward to seeing some of it paired with white too, or all grey. I unintentionally have a ton of grey in my closet. Actually the more recent pieces are more intentional, and I'm pretty happy with it. Grey seems to work better on me than black, and I like to pair bright scarves with it as well.

Experiment away. And to answer your question, no, I've never been surprised by how much of a certain colour I have in my closet...but that's because I hang things by colour. Makes it pretty obvious.

Well I don't know what happened to the post I wrote about an hour ago...
Anyway - I'm sure you'll look good.
I am not surprised really that you have so much grey, particularly for winter wear. For years now it is one of the few colours that winter clothes come in, often.
For this reason I have accumulated quite a bit myself, despite not actually looking that good in most shades of grey (light and silvery may be the only great one). I think it is a lot harder for my olive skin to wear grey than your fair skin.
The other colour I have a lot of, like Suz, is blue. That is intentional though!

Those are some lovely grey pieces. I tend to think that maybe grey is your white! And a very sophisticated look it can give.

I really like grey but have to be careful with it. I actually think charcoal is one of my very best colours/ neutrals -- it's instantly flattering to me, at least in the correct tone.

So, I tend to purchase and wear quite a lot of grey when it is available in winter. (Grey is a bit like brown in terms of availability here. Some years you can't go anywhere without running into it..and other years, it is impossible to find.)

But...like black...worn in large doses too consistently, grey can make me feel sad and depressed...especially on our grey days. (It does not make me feel this way on sunny summer days, especially in these lovely soft lighter shades that you picture, worn in combination with whites and silver; it is only in winter that it causes me to feel this way.)

My wardrobe is hugely weighted to blues, in different shades/ tones/ intensities, it is true, but for me, blue is like black is to you -- I really couldn't get dressed without it. Even my greys are mostly on the blue side. I do have other colours, but they are all accents to the main event.

Grey .. Some very nice pieces! Looking forward to seeing what you do with them.

I love tonal greys. I recently purchased the EB Microtherm vest in cinder. I know it is a mans but they did not have grey in the women's. I LOVE LOVE the colour of this vest. I have the Icebreaker Crave hoodie in metro jet. Pair those two with a scarf and dark jeans and it is a winner for me.

Next I paired the same vest with a lighter grey sweater with the white under layer and then topped it with another scarf.. win win again.

I do find that I do not have a lot of grey in my closet. I do need to find some oatmeal.

Beautiful collection of gray. I look forward to seeing your outfits.

My wardrobe is a collection of earthtones. Lots of browns, greens, golden yellow and a little black. I have always felt pulled towards those colours.

oh…loving forward to what you do with gray! and i'm intrigued by the tones of the gray's in your wardrobe-lots of blue undertones and oatmeal.
and yes, i recently realized that somehow i've ended up with a collection of tops in a dark purple color.

You do have a fair amount of gray in your wardrobe and I think you will look fantastic in tonal gray - looking forward to seeing those outfits! The color I have a lot of in my closet is white, and really the only reason for that is that it is just so easy. It's easy to wear, easy to style, an outfit no-brainer, plus it goes with all my patterned pants and skirts.

I love this idea of incorporating grey. It just says "sophistication" to me. I am trying to do something very similar. It seems to be very challenging for me though.

Three questions: What is tone? Do you have any trouble wearing grey near your face? It seems to wash me out. Could I be wearing the wrong grey? I am pretty certain I am a "winter." But whether I am cool or clear is beyond me. I do have an artist friend that might be able to help. I will talk with her on Friday.

I look forward to seeing you in grey, Deborah.
