Thanks for the well wishes about my grandmother--- it is a very hard situation. Many of you know that prior to a leukemia diagnosis recently she was extremely healthy and active (she was 75 and hiking and doing physical labor). However, she does have past history of depression and SAD and lives in a rural area. In reality she should have had a very good chance of beating cancer, but it doesn't look like she will recover. It is incredibly frustrating.

I spent a large chunk of the year either visiting her to help her out or staying with my mother while my father was out of town taking care of her. She has had to be hospitalized and is has decided to stop treatment. Now they suspect she has an infection, but no one can get a straight answer out of her doctors or her about what should be done about it.

I do hope that she improves and I will get to visit with her again. I am really hoping to get some quality time in with her and that the stress can be lessened on my father.

I will be in Arizona for 4-5 more weeks depending on how quickly the project goes.

I am still extremely disappointed in the employer delaying our schedule and interfering with my vacation plans, so I may leave early depending on where we are in the scope of work (my skill set lies in the hands on work, and if the final week is data entry the crew is unlikely to need me). Still being laid off for a week with no warning when I'm 2 states away from home and then having to make the choice to leave early and loose out on pay and experience is frustrating.

I'm sorry to hear your grandmother isn't doing well, but it is good to hear from you. Congrats on pursuing the adventure! Southern Arizona is beautiful and fascinating, but Shelob there would give me a case of the willies too.

I've thought I would drop in and let everyone know that I haven't dropped off the face of the earth again, just the technologically populated one! I ended up taking the short-term job in Arizona and it has been an adventure. Because of the temporary nature of the job the organization has been housing us. The area is gorgeous but the accommodations have mostly served as a way to get cosy with the wildlife of Arizona. I was greeted by this guy (see picture below) inside my front door this morning. He is terribly interesting, but nearly 3 inches in diameter and I hadn't had my coffee yet! I hope to post more pictures of the location when the job is done.

I also haven't had internet access for nearly a month, which probably explains my lack of presence here. I have a few days off, so right now I have to luxury of extra time to tool around (and one of my housemates graciously left me a wifi hotspot).

None of my coworkers are the fashion type, and we are getting pretty filthy at work, plus it is still quite warm here. Still, Arizona is the closest I've been to "real" shopping in several years, so I am hoping to get into one of the metropolitan areas and take advantage of that fact. It will be cold by the time I get back home and my basics are taking a beating on this job and long overdue for replacement. I will definitely have to start a couple of shopping posts!

There have been a couple of delays on this job, and it now looks like I will be missing the vacation I had planned with my boyfriend unless I duck out of work early. I really am disappointed since there was no indication this could happen when I accepted the position, and because he and I get to spend so little time together, especially with me out of town for 8 weeks on this job. I also haven't had a vacation of any sorts since March of 2011, and before that not since November of 2006.

In other news my grandmother is not doing well and it has become a very unfortunate situation. I am hoping she will make it through the month, but the real priority is prayer to lessen her suffering.

Glad to be back!
