Thanks, Shannon - that is helpful. I would probably go with my larger-end size then. The reviews are so mixed on the comfort that I wasn't sure....

I'm strongly considering them.....

I like the patent aspect, too.

They are very comfortable - but I would say border on a bit narrow. I have medium width feet and find these "just" fit. I wouldn't want them any narrower. But I wear them for 8 hour days no problem. I wear a 6/6.5 and bought them in a 6.5.

In terms of spectator style shoes Suz, have you considered the tri-tone patent Jeffrey Campbell's like I have? They are a chunky 2 inch heel and are almost more versatile because they don't have the white toe - the toe is taupe!

I LOVE the shape of those Sam Edelman booties and had indeed thought about them...but I think I might want a higher heel.

The nice thing about these pants though is that they really are quite tapered at the bottom so perhaps it doesn't matter....I can get them hemmed and they should probably work with pretty much all heel heights. I did think it would make most sense to hem them for the shoes I'll probably wear most, though....

Hmmm...wish I could try the Pettys on someplace rather than doing the online ordering thing.

Krish, I DID try with my Siebels and I do think they look better than with the Marcies, but still not 100%. I would perhaps wear them with those, but would like to have some options.

Good point, Merwoman....I will try again with the Reports just to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me.

Una, you are so right....I LOVED my Saras when I first bought them and did get some good wear from them, and they have taught me that I need a spectator style shoe in my wardrobe....I just love that graphic punch! But these are probably not the ones for me, long term.

Love the pants. I also thought about those report booties. Even though the colour(s) might not be right - I find it helpful to try on most of my footwear to get a sense of what style of shoe/shootie/bootie I should be looking for.

I really like look of the trousers with the Marcies as you have them styled here. I think the Marcies give the outfit a hip, cool edge. But, if you're feeling less than great about it, well, that's an argument for considering a different option. I like the idea of this outfit with a leopard pump. I think red (or even cobalt) might be feasible options too, but that might be too predictable. Have you considered heeled loafers? Some of the styles are quite funky (in a good way)...

Suz, I love the trousers! What a great find - at Winners? Wow!
I wear my slouchy trousers with both booties and pumps. I think your wedge animal pumps will look great with them.
I find that I love my both pairs of SE Petty booties with my trousers - python print and putty. They have elongated toe and look quite refined with this style even though the heel is 1 1/2" only. Maybe you should consider them now?:-)

I like these trousers so much on you! Wonderful! And from Winners at that. You are so lucky. I love how you have styled them. You are right about the shoes. Have you tried with you J.S. booties? The heel is well defined in those. Otherwise I would go for a classic, delicate heeled pump. Do you have a pair? If not, maybe look for one. It would look so good with your dressy menswear inspired outfits. And don't think they shouldn't be comfortable, if well chosen they can be very wearable.
ETA: just looked at your Clarks ideas, yes, I've tried those and one pair was comfortable, the other not (can't remember which!). You have to try them in a store.ETA ETA: these were very very nice:

I adore these pants on you, Suz. As for the Doc Saras, that was my issue too - the big round white toe just felt too MUCH with skirts somehow, maybe because I have such scrawny legs, and with pants it just looked like I was wearing white shoes, which is so not me. Yet Shannon rocks her pair all the time! Variety is the spice of life!

I agree that the shoes you're wearing with the trousers aren't quite right. Both pairs of booties look like they would work better. I prefer the first pair but the second pair is simpler and might be better for not competing with the pants.

Thank you, ladies!

Karie, I got these trousers at Winner's (like your TJ Maxx) in what they call the Runway section. They are by a Danish designer called Noir. You can find good slouchy trousers at Zara, though. And Laura created her own by buying petites and sizing way UP at Ann Taylor.

Shannon, I do have my Saras. (Karie, these are a black and white oxford with a heel, sort of like what you are suggesting.)

But you know what? I am thinking of passing my Saras on to a YLF friend.

I am finding them too big for me (physically...they are about a half size too large) and also visually, in many outifts...including with the slouchy trousers. I think Angie's thoughts on that were dead on. I am semi in the market for another saddle or spectator style shoe, a bit more refined than the Saras. Because I love that style, generally, and always, always have. But I expect I might have better luck with that in spring.

They don't work withe the Reports because of the bootie's wide opening. Also, the colours seem a bit extreme....the black wool with the light sand suede. I COULD do it in a pinch. Because of bookending.

They look "okay" with the smog DVs, but not great...the DVs are really too casual for them. Again, it sort of works due to bookending with my hair, but it's not ideal.

I DO have leopard print pumps and I can try those. Thank you, Laura! They are a wedge heel, too, though, so might not work.

Would something like this be good to try? http://www.clarkscanada.com/pr.....lack-suede

or maybe this one, similar?
http://www.clarkscanada.com/pr.....lack-suede

I've never actually owned a true shootie.

Oh I like these! A nice black and white shoe like Angie had in one of her recent outfit blogs would look great. I also think a heeled shootie would look nice. A bootie might get in the way with the fabric at the hem, similar to what your shoe laces do.

I like the way your styled it in your photos. I have a shirt similar to #1 and #2, I think I am now in the market for black slouchy trousers! Where did you get yours, if you don't mind me asking?

So I finally got a chance to show hubby the slouchy trousers. He likes them a lot and was not negatively impacted by the back view.

So I've finally decided for sure to keep them and am off to the alterationist to get them shortened!

But I'm not convinced that my Marcies are the right footwear for these, at least on me. They feel a bit clunky with the wedge and the laces sort of impede the fabric's drape. I feel I need a bit of a heel....I am all for long bodies and all that, but...um...you know...I am a bit self-conscious about the short legs.

Should I be looking for a heeled shootie/ bootie? What would work best?
