I have the same issue of weight as Diana. I shove mine in a bread bowl/box (meaning followed bread as a container) instead and tear it up to mix into the salad when eating! Crunchy salad and dressing mixed in there without any excess sogginess.

I'm so happy you all find it a great idea. I was wondering if it made sense to post at all. But knowing how I hated my soggy salads and how simple this solution is, I hoped someone else will also gave that lightbulb moment "aha, dressing at the bottom, why didn't I think of that".

I must say, Ornella, when I saw your post I thought, "Great, she's linked to yet another of those nifty multi-piece plastic gadgets that will work great right up till I lose one of the parts. No thanks, not me, I'll keep doing it the hipster way and put mine in mason jars"
Quelle surprise! And thanks.
(And I never thought of putting the dressing in the bottom. But I too regularly knock mine over in transit.)
What got me started on jars was Oh She Glows (website), when she even baked single-serving cakes and desserts in them.

This is a great tip that I used today for lunch. Instead of glass jar, I used a deep square plastic container which I usually use for salad anyways. But instead of putting the dressing separately in a small container, I used the above trick. Worked like a charm. Thanks, Ornella.

I saw this and I want to try it. I have 2 problems though - one, since I carry my lunch bag in my purse, I can't guarantee that it won't tip over and mix while I'm commuting, and then the lettuce would get all soggy. And two, I don't bring my lunch in glass containers. I'd like to but it's too heavy (gotta be nice to the back) and I'm worried about breaking them if I clonk my bag down on something. I guess I could do it in a plastic container though, it just wouldn't be as cute.

Right now, I take the wet ingredients (dressing, tomatoes, maybe a couple of other things) in a separate small screw top container from the main big container with lettuce, etc.

Glad it's of help VJ :-)

I plan to switch to storing in glass more when I get bigger kitchen space. Plastic boxes are more stackable but all those issues with stuff leaking from it in the food makes me very nervous.

Thanks for the tip, this is a great idea and aesthetically pleasing too--people at the office will be jealous! We have tons of jars at home because we always plan on making preserves, but never quite get around to it! LOL! I use them for soups and for storing everything from cooked pasta to beans, etc in the fridge. This will now be my newest use for them!

NICE! If I had mason jars, I would so do that!

We just use glass containers, and prepare it all the night before. We use a small glass container (baby container, actually) for the dressing. It gets mixed up at work.
