Janet - I have been on the lookout for a silver and black brocade to try a similar DIY on a pair of ancient black Hudsons, but just have not found the right fabric.

Wow, darn! Sorry they didn't work. It sounds like they run quite big, and they're still a very cropped length. I would like the treatment better as a full length jean. DIY would probably be the way to go for many of us! I'm imagining a dark wash pair with a black and gold brocade fabric at the hem -- how fab would that be?

Thought I'd report back on these jeans. They were a fail for me. I ordered one size down than I've worn in Pilcro in the past and they are still too big. Also, a shade or two lighter than they appeared on-line. And, although they have a close-to-premium denim price point, they don't have the premium denim feel.

Deb and Janet, my thoughts exactly--what to do when our cropped jeans go out of style.
Karen13, this might not solve the tight calf problem, but you could use the same fabric to insert a gusset in the outer seam and then add the band around the bottom. It could be your unique take on this trend.

This looks like fun, and easy to do, just need to find some nice fabric. I don't remember the trend for the 90s but I missed most of the 90s fashion anyway. Early 90s there was a war and late 90s I was young mom with different priorities.

I didn't do this trend when it hit in the 90s. I don't remember it being big here in the mid-Atlantic. And I was pretty immersed in work-wear at the time.

We can be twins, minimalist - you do the post-apoc version and I'll do the polished one! karen14, this does seem like a good solution to your too-tight-in-the-calves jeans. Karie, I hope you'll post pics if you give this a try.
Seriously, I'm glad I jumped on these by ordering on-line (per the internet none of the stores near me stock them in petites). The petites are nearly sold out.
Since these are pretty pricey, they'll need to be perfect for me to keep. Guess I'll see if my fondness for this style is rooted in reality or based on the happy memories I associate with wearing my original pair. With one child finishing grad school and the other getting married in a few weeks, I'm getting full-on nostalgic lately, especially for all things 90's!

OMG, I have been waiting for this trend to come back - Does anyone else remember when these jeans with the Asian brocade at the hem was a THING? I wore my pair to death and they were so much fun. I'm thinking it was probably in the early 90's? They were typically straight leg jeans and cropped an inch or 2 above the ankle bone.
Guess I'll have to add a stop at Anthro to my plans for the day!
Thank you, Janet!
