Nordstroms has a very nice leopard calf hair belt at a good price. It is a good width, wide enough to wear with jeans or to cover a waist line but not wide enough to be uncomfortable.
I often find favorite belts at the Rack and Marshall's and Banana Republic.

I'm not sure where you shop, but I found a great thin black reptile belt at J.Crew outlet for about $10. Try checking out the sale sections or a TJMaxx type store.

Missey - belts are my favorite accessory but I do favor embellished belts. The first belt is Nocono and the enamel looks a bit like toledo, very fun - amazon carries it as do many online western sites. The second is a horn and concho belts are made to spec and this is a really fun one to wear. http://mrboots.com/product_inf.....30e1aeaaad
The third is a Wildfire patent belt and, to me, it just makes everything look better. http://www.westernglitter.com/.....wb1016.htm

You can find awesome but pricey belts at Suzi Roher online and I have scored at dkny/bloomies/saks on occasion. Good luck on the belt hunt!!

sorry missey - just saw the price restrictions!! Zappos has a lot of belts at all price ranges and never count amazon out. Hope that helps. Gosh belt love just got me carried away.....

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about Target, they have tons of great belts. Or at least my local stores do, not sure if the Canadian ones have different stock. They used to be my go-to place when I was a size 18, the only place I found that regularly had XXL size belts that were long enough.

I've found my belt buying patterns have changed over the last couple of years. I used to only buy all leather belts. But then I started trying wilder colors and patterns and I loosened up my all-leather restriction. In the past year, I've bought belts:

At Target--they always carry a great basic belt that looks like a not-too-shiny-patent in tons of fun colors for about $12. It looks identical to my real leather patent belts that I bought from Nordstrom for $30 or more. I bought a ton of colors and a white belt at Target and they've been great for their purpose. I buy belts at Target when I need a color for a specific outfit and I'm not willing to wait for a better quality one to come around or I don't think I'll be wearing it a whole lot. My mustard, fuchsia and white belts all came from Target.

At Macy's--Angie helped me pick out my beloved silver belt at Macy's. It isn't all leather, but it looks quite nice. Silver can be a pretty low durability finish, so the benefit of this was that it was inexpensive and can be replaced with little pain. It also let me try out a trend that I didn't know if I would love with minimal expense.

At Ann Taylor--At the end of the season like now, I've often scored incredible belts for $10 or $12 dollars. I just picked up a skinny leopard print calf skin at mine a few days ago for $12.50 (1/2 off of clearance). I have a couple snake prints from last year and a great red belt, which incidentally looks almost identical to one that I bought at Target.

At JCrew--Same deal. IN-credible end of season deals. Great quality. I bought my wide leopard print calf skin belt from JCrew because it was such beautiful quality. I also have bought a whole bunch of fun, colorful patent leather belts there for $10 or $15 at the end of the season.

My latest and greatest belt, which is quickly becoming my favorite, was purchased in Austin at a boot store. (I also bought cowboy boots at the time!). It is wide, real leather with B&W calf hair, and came with my choice of two buckles so I can swap them out. One of the buckles screams "country and western" and the second one is more understated.

So in addition to the other suggestions, I'd try cowboy boot shops, or a place like Shepler's. And look for belts that have swappable buckles, which a lot of the western belts do have.

I just checked Dillard's - they have a nice selection.

Also don't forget about Shopstyle to do a search.

My biggest frustration with online belt shopping is that I really need to try them on first. Because the online descriptions are so vague. I wish they'd just say what length the belt is, rather than listing as "XS, S, M" etc... I tend to be right between an XS and a S in belts, and sometimes even need a M.

Wide belts are in SUCH short supply. Heaven knows why. I wear designer belts a lot of the time - and pay premium price unfortunately. But I've also paid $20 for belts at Macys - the gold and white, which were on deep discount. And I love those belts too. Zappos and Nordies are always worth a look. (I treat belts as "my jewellry" so I am happy to pay a lot for them).

Ditto to the suggestions to look at Fossil, and also check out Lucky Brand. I have found some men's belts there that are pretty cool. I found my elusive white and black belt there.

Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx and Marshalls can be goldmines for belts, but it's hit or miss.

I've also found some great deals on really nice belts on eBay and consignment shops.

Missey, I have a terrible time finding decent belts too. I did see some nicer ones at TJ Maxx. Nordie's belts (at least where I am) were all very boring and predictable. Three of my four belts are from Banana Republic, so I recommend them, though they don't often have wide belts. All I can say is, Good luck!

TJMAxx, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor (variable quality), Dept store sales.
Hard to find when I'm looking for something specific, so I'm always in cruising belt-mode for any colors, widths and buckles I am likely to use. Problem now is that lower-rise pants take an entire size up from skirt waists, so there's almost no such thing as an everything belt. I like contouring in the shape, and softer leathers, to lie flatter, so I keep an eye out for those features, too, plus the elusive self-color buckles in case I want to wear a necklace and not compete with the buckle.

Sshhhh....I have a confession to make. Most of my belts (especially the wide ones) are actually cheapie "made in China" items. I get them at a costume store in Stratford, Ontario, but I've also seen them around at malls. They are made of leather, but it's not super high quality leather. And they cost me $12 each. I would gladly pay a whole lot more, but I can't find wider belts anywhere! When I do find them, I pounce, although I've had to return a few that I ordered online, as being much cheaper looking and feeling than the my usual cheapies!!

Nordstrom Rack? My local one has a lot of belts, in a variety of price points. Also, Marshalls and stores like that, if you're not opposed to cheaper fabrications (leatherifications? ha). I've had really great luck at the thrift store with belts, because people seem to buy them and then never wear them and eventually donate, but of course it's hit or miss how quickly you can find exactly what you're looking for.

Gap has decent real leather options at good prices (plus they're always having sales).

I also like the mid-range dept. store brands like Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, etc. You can often score them on discount at places like the Rack or TJ maxx.

I've had a lot of luck on Amazon and Zappos.
Men's belts can be a great option. They usually work because you're probably wearing yours at your hip instead of your waist, so you can probably get one to fit unless you're super tiny.

They are elusive Missey -especially wider belts. I look everywhere - I like belts by Fossil, 9West and have found these at The Bay (Canada) - you might score them at Macy's, Nordstrom etc. I've also bought belts at Gap, Zara, BR and Target...and don't be afraid to check out the Mens section - these can be easily shortened to fit slimmer hips/waist. Good luck!

For such specific wants, I'd plug your descriptions into shopstyle and go from there. For just all around good belt selection try the discounters like IK mentioned - TJ Maxx, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, Rack.
I got some of my best belts at TJ Maxx: Steve Madden, Via Spiga, Express.
