Thanks Runcarla and Sal for info on your own preferences. Sal of course your "winter" is not like mine...for my winter outdoor walks I have fleece items of all kinds, a puffer vest, a mid-warm insullated parka, two neck gaiters, several knit hats, insulated ski gloves. Thank goodness this type of gear lasts a long time so I don't have to replace it very often. If I ever get back into a bit of running I'll probably be overheated :-)

Thanks for sharing, Chris. I’m particular about my fitness kit as well, and also find my preferences have changed some over time. High waisted yoga tights in a 3/4 length are my favourite workout bottoms. I find they keep my back warm. Agree that Winners and TJMaxx are great for fitness gear.

Thanks Lisa! I just sent her an email suggesting she check out this posting, as an anonymous visitor if she prefers...since she's not a member. I found this skirted legging on the CABI site...are you able to see it?

Fun read! Though, I must admit, that I fall into her "guy" category, for wearing any old tee and shorts to the gym. Totally agree with her about the length of shorts- I've been waiting for Title Nine to restock the ones I want, because I prefer my shorts to be 4-5" in length, and with functional pockets, rather than some itty-bitty slot that barely holds an ID.

She has a really nice website, and the article was well-written and had lots of good tips. I'm impressed with her credentials, and of course anything written by someone with golf expertise always interests me !

I am very specific and almost fanatical about workout wear, and as often as I experiment and try new brands, I come back to the one that I can rely on: Lululemon. I don't mind spending the money, as I have NEVER found a cheap alternative that is equal in performance and quality. I know we've discussed this topic a million times on the forum, so I won't go into it again.

What I did like was her suggestion of a pair of skirted leggings - and I was disappointed that the link for the cabi online pair didn't work. Couldn't find them on their website anywhere. Maybe this was an old article - I didn't check the date now that I think of it.

I nodded along in agreement about wanting tops that aren't too short, and too revealing. And god no, no cotton ever

A good friend of mine who is a personal trainer and has been a working athlete for most of her adult life recently wrote a great blog article on how to choose workout gear. Some of you may already have heard this type of advice, but I though it was a good summary so I thought I'd post it. For me, since I only wear gear to work out, I much prefer recommendations from someone who is an athlete over those from someone who wears gear as "regular" clothing. (Not saying there is anything wrong with doing that). A pointer to the full article is at the bottom. I have her permission to post it.

My friend is in her late 50's, is about my size (a little taller and more fit) and has been an aerobics and yoga instructor, a high school girl's field hockey coach, a personal trainer, and has written a book on how to get in shape for golf season. She has done all kinds of psychical activities herself over the years including yoga, running, golf, starting in high school and continuing until this day. Over several decades I've attended both her aerobics and yoga classes and hired her as my personal trainer and have always found her approach to fitness to be practical, holistic, realistic, full of great information, and sprinkled with plenty of humor. She pretty much lives in gear most days because that's what's required for her job.

Summary
She starts with a stroll down memory late of types of gear she has worn, with quite a bit of humor. She advises against cotton because it's gets sweaty, does not dry quickly, and can develop odors that re-appear every time you wear them even after washing. She likes performance fabrics and is glad they are easier to clean now than in the old days when one coffee spill would run a tank top. Thumbs up to high waisted yoga pants as long as the waist is not too high. ALWAYS do a "bendover" check when buying yoga pants, especially spendy ones, to make sure they are thick enough with enough coverage. She recommends spending on sneakers and good bottoms, which should last for years, and saving on tops. She's a fan of leggings with short skirts because they add a little style for stopping at the grocery store after a workout. Know how much coverage you want for a shirt/tank and stick with it (sides, length, armholes etc), and again stay with performance fabrics.

The article also contains some specific brand recommendations.
https://personalbestpersonaltr.....ness-wear/ Would love you hear your comments. If you want more info on her feel free to PM me.
