Welcome! I'd add blazers to this great list of advice. Any chance you can recycle some of your suit jackets to wear over a fine-gauge sweater with those jeans? Add a casual scarf to the mix too, if you want. They look great with T's and cardigans too.

Hi Colleenmarie. You sound like you have mastered the art of "bookending" with your espadrilles/pullover combo! I find jackets are a great way to youngify a look, like the utility jacket or moto idea. The jeans sound nice too - trouser cut jeans are classic at any age I think. Looking forward to seeing some of your WIW's.

The transition to retirement is an interesting one, although I'm still half in and half out so my wardrobe is in a total state of flux right now.

I've currently been assembling a smallish capsule of wearable, every day clothes as a starting point for a retirement wardrobe. And I'm forcing myself to not put things into "wear for good" vs. "wear around the house" categories anymore. It's nice to change into comfy clothes after a day in heels and suits, but, when your down time is all the time, you can get into wearing those ratty, comfy things all day, every day. I've invested in a couple of full coverage aprons to keep my cashmere and silk looking good even if I'm just doing things around the house. Both fabrics are quite washable if you treat them with a bit of care.

Currently, my retirement capsule consists of three pairs of pants (jeans, cotton, light wool), two skirts (denim, cotton), six or seven tops (silk, linen, cotton), four sweaters (two pullovers, 2 cardigans), a silky bomber jacket, a leather moto jacket, a trench, and a utility jacket. My footwear is mainly sneakers and booties. I can work some of my office wear into this capsule for more variety. Much of my capsule came from my closet, but I did buy a couple of items to help pull things together. Ingunn's wardrobe posts were a big inspiration here--THANK YOU INGUNN! I'd definitely suggest checking out some of her posts.
Gaylene you are spot on. I believe as we get older it is harder to stay valued in society. Sophistication is a key element in appearance, it also allows a person to stay current without looking too trendy. As a recent retiree from daily suits and heels I am finding it difficult to start a few suggestions from you all on key pieces to add would be appreciated
I'm a 60+, inverted triangle who refuses to give up her jeans although I'm closing in on retirement and am also a Grandma On the Go in my spare time (love that GOTG moniker!)

My key fashion words these days are sophisticated and elegant, and I apply those descriptors to my jean outfits as well as my work and dressier clothes. My jeans are well-fitted, but not tight, straight or boot cuts in a dark wash. I wear them with Breton striped sweaters, silk or linen shirts, and interesting, well-cut T's. My shoes are usually boots or booties in the fall and winter, or wedged espadrilles in the summer. My toppers are my trench coats, a well-cut jacket, cashmere cardigan, or a bomber-style or moto leather jacket.

I think the secret to wearing jeans when you get to the GOTG stage is quality. Younger women can look fine in inexpensive clothes, but, as you get older, our bodies just look better in well-cut designs and good fabrics.
You sound too cool! I'll bet you can even pull off the difficult hoodie :)

A jacket will be dressier, but a cardigan more cool. Any thoughts for shoes?
First off, welcome!

secondly, I very much recommend the jacket over the cardi. Cardigans can work, but I feel they are so much more difficult to style well.

I'm a 5"7' apple shaped retired 60 year old and I love my jeans. I have updated myself to a trouser style but they are still jeans. I am trying to add some chicness to my everyday style more in the line of Grandma on the go. Possible a cardigan or jacket to throw on to complete the look. Any advice will help.
