Thanks for the info on The Tobie/ Cheap Monday Angie! I'll certainly skip them.

Shiny, I'm sorry they are not quite right. The site does say tough that the measurements were taken from size 27 I'll keep looking and let you know if I find something else, but I can't do it at this moment. So no JBrands for you, I 'll keep that in mind.

I have so-so luck with J Brand. They are often "near" perfect - but not quite. There is often something about the fabric that I just don't like - too heavy? Too stiff? And the contrast stitching (on any brand)... just doesn't look right to me. I think it adds pounds or something. Not sure what it is.

Tanya - I applaud your efforts BUT the 9 inch rise was measured on a size 30. I guarantee on a size 25-26 that rise is closer to 8 or 8-1/2" !
For example the Zazo's are 9 inch rise for 25 and 26, but everything larger is 10 inch rise.

If the Zazo's don't work I'm probably best off hitting my neighborhood NJC every week when they get a new shipment, and trying on lots and lots of pairs.

Angie, which Tobi fit were yeu reffering too, I mean what brand are they. I've tried to find them in the entries above but I keep missing it. That's what one gets when she tries to run two experiments and post on the forum in parallel

Well done Tanya! But, I've tried the Tobi fit ladies. They were awful. There is NO stretch in the denim. Come on denim manufactures, we need skinnies with at least 2% lycra. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Well first, let me say that my skinnies (both blue and black) that you've seen on me on photos are 14" opening, so they are sort of skinny-straight, but I like them that way.

Shiny, your wish is my command! :D
Here they are ( ta ta ta ta):
http://www.tobi.com/product/10.....nim-skinny

They fit almost your every demand( can you forgive me the stitching), just the back rise is not listed so you'll have to ask. And, btw, JBrand was THE brand of jeans that started the skinny jeans craze few years ago. I haven't tried them yet, but I'm sesriously considering them for my 14" white pair.

As for shopping too much recently, I am super guilty as well, espacially since I have serious budget constraints. So other than spending a portion of my tax return ( when it arrives- that's when I get my skinnies), no more shopping for me till fall!

Yay Shiny! Please wear skinnies. It is still the number one pant look in Europe and Asia. There is no wide leg trend going on, on that side of the world. It surprises me actually.

I have 6 pairs of skinnies . 4 denim, 1 white denim and 1 black & cream check. The widest hems measure 13 inches and the smallest measure 11 inches. I wear the 13 inch hems the most. These are my Diesel jeans and I have never had jeans fit so well. The 9 inch rise in your size is a tall order. My Diesel “Brucke” jeans have the rise length you want but they are not available any more. I have tried to find a third pair for the last 6 months. If you do manage to find them, Diesel runs very small so don’t hesitate to go one or two sizes up.

Shiny, I have straight, skinny, and super tapered skinnies at home. I will measure the leg opening on all of them when I get home so you can compare (and I have pictures to post too!). For the record, I have always thought quietly to myself that you are the ideal candidate for skinnies...even super skinnies...but I can understand why you don't feel comfortable in them. I'm inclined to recommend the J Crew Matchstick to you, but the smallest size they come in is 26. However, I find them on the small side, so you never know.

I got these at BR about a year ago. I think this style might be what you're looking for. Of course they are not available anymore, but it might help to have a visual:

http://img.photobucket.com/alb.....p01v01.jpg

I will go home and measure the leg opening of those jeans.

You're a jeans maniac! I'm in awe. I don't even know where to measure those inches etc. That's probably why I haven't found the perfect jeans yet But anyway, do keep in mind that it doesn't matter that much how your butt looks in skinnies, since you'll be wearing dresses or tunics over them (otherwise it really is a look that's best reserved for the young and supertrendy fashionistas.) I would never wear my skinnies with shorter tops, so noone will ever be the wiser with respect to them being much less flattering up top than my bootcuts.

Yep, the matchsticks and the soho's have, I think, something like a 14 inch back rise. The distance from waistband to yoke is fairly long. On me, this means the pockets gravitate too low and make me look like my butt is dragging on the ground, when actually it's relatively still perky for my age. ;-)

They are also wider across the back side... near the crotch seam ... I can't explain that but I could show you. I've been analyzing this a lot in recent months. That's to accomodate either a rounder butt OR curvier hips. Because my DD's butt is teeny tiny but she does have curves... she's a pretty pear.

Meanwhile, my butt is mostly flat and my hips are narrow.

I *could* have alterations done but it would involve not just the back seam, but also futzing around with the yoke to shorten it. Oddly, however, for some reason, petite jeans don't really work quite as well as regulars.... you'd think they would! But I'm having much better luck in the regular department (with ample hemming... but hems are the easy part).

My DKNY skinnies are definitely not low rise, not at all. Maybe they have a new style; I bought mine last fall. Regarding the butt issue, though: mine is quite round so the fact that they fit me well might be an indicator that they won't fit you well - given I also love the Matchsticks because they accomodate my butt well

Yeah, I think the skinnies I tried on months ago were skinny skinny skinny... that's why I hesitated. I had a hard time getting my foot back out, that's how skinny! But otherwise, I do have to admit they looked awesome on me.

But it reminded me of the 80s when we wore leggings, and I figured I was all done with that look..... I hadn't found YLF yet. :-(

From reviews on the web, the Zazo's are not *quite* as skinny as previous models, so we shall see!

... okay I just measured my DD's jeans (she's wearing Jcrew matchsticks today, which look fab on her) ... those are 12 inch. So 14 inch is more like a straight leg I guess.

I DO like the 12 inch leg of the matchsticks... I just don't like the rise and the baggy butt they give me.

Problem I had when I was trying on skinnies (other than the rise being too low) was baggy butt syndrome. The Jcrew matchstick jeans were the worst offenders.

DKNY - will try them out next time I'm in Macy's (although I'm noting, looking at their site, they are calling them "low rise"). Also part of the problem is that since losing weight, my Soho 2p's are too big for me now (not to mention the back rise is MUCH too long, creating baggy butt even when they did fit). I need a 0p and DKNY doesn't make them.

Wow! Those are skinny jeans on that model. I don't think 14" sounds all that small for a leg opening though. Seems to me that they would be more like a straight leg.

Hope they fit you perfectly. I tried on some Ernest Sewn skinnies last year and they were skinny skinny skinny and very low rise. I did not buy those.

Hi shiny, these are definitely quite skinny. If you're unsure about skinnies (I do hope we can push you over the edge ;-)) have you considered going with some more "moderate" ones? I have the DKNY skinnies, which aren't quite so tight, but they still create the "skinny jeans" look. NYDJ also has a skinny style, although I personally find those not quite skinny enough (they're almost straight). The DKNY skinnies are fab. And the disadvantages we called out with some DKNYs (e.g. Soho) don't apply; the denim is different and less stretchy, and if you only wear long tunics or dresses over them then it won't bother you if they get a little looser at the top after one wear. At least I've found that to be the case. Just a suggestion; I think the ones you link are more "radical" so if you end up not liking them, don't generalize this to all skinnies.

I just ordered these skinny jeans:

http://www.net-a-porter.com/am.....eWREBlEQcw

Remember I mentioned that I had tried on a pair of skinnies ages ago, that fit and flattered perfectly, but at last minute, I didn't buy them because I thought those over 40 shouldn't be wearing them??? And have ever regretted it.... because when I went back they were gone.

Those jeans were this same brand, Ernest Sewn. I emailed the company and asked for more detailed measurements, and these seem like they will fit me perfectly in the hips, butt, thighs, rise....my coveted 9 inches... (I compared measurements to my favorite, best-fitting jeans). They do look goofy in the photo though!!! On me, these will fit right below the belly button, not at the waist.

It appears they are a new model that aren't quite as skinny as the ones I tried on (which were nearly like leggings!).

14 inch around the ankles... does that sound okay? That's about two or three inches skinnier than my bootcuts.

I'm also not sure about the color, I'd prefer a darker blue. But FREE returns, so I figured I'd give it a shot!
