Nina, on me these are a forgiving length. They are cool- weather pants and I only wear boots sometimes anymore, so the wider width lets me wear them full length over sneakers. And my feet don’t tolerate as many low- profile sneakers( which I really like for my style, and feet size!) so most of mine are bulkier athletic shoes, Brooks or similar. I need that option so that I will wear them more or for longer walking required, and not “ save “ them, and mix with sportier wear. Plus I run cold and if I want to wear them in actual winter, I need socks or even a base layer. But, I also have suede oxfords in black and gray with slightly almond toe, which gives me a couple of more refined shoes. And some black and gray boots, not dressy.

Because they’re comfy and have belt loops I plan to tuck tops in a lot. I have a range of gray tops, from blouses to knit LS to merino , but also the plaid has that good characteristic of the bits of gray in it being what I call almost a “ chameleon color” and not an assertive pattern, so I have some lavender, pearl / oyster colors that pick up the pants color, plus darker berry colors in sweaters. I’ll also hope to dress them down with an untucked thicker sweater or zip jacket, down vest type outfits.

Confessions—I tried the brown color also and it didn’t “ read” nearly as good for me, it’s a kind of plaid also, which I did want for sort a tweedy sort of effect, but had too much of a golden or cinnamon bits for my palette, so just didn’t add anything.

Further confessions is I got a VC plaid blazer and am waiting for matching pants, no idea if the right size or fit, so that would be overdosing on too many same fabric type pants for my situation.
Probably I should end up focusing on these and wear them and not “ split wears”.

I ordered the black but now I'm wondering if I should order the plaid.:-) This is a new fit for me so I thought black would be easier to style but darn I'm tempted. They are such a comfy material and for the shorter gal like me they almost fit without hemming. Though I will be hemming a smidge. Unfrumped, I'm curious what shoes you will be wearing with them and what you plan to wear with the pants?

Thanks for sharing your feedback!
Nina

I am so glad to read your positive review. Thanks to Angie I have ordered this as well but haven't received yet. Like you, I'm more comfortable in these kinds of slacks than jeans, especially sitting all day for work.

Amy, they are not short on me. They are full length with some Oxford flats I’d use, and still long enough to cover my chunky sneakers

I created a size dilemma for myself because I ordered a size up to compare. Well, it arrived and it gives a nice more fluid vibe & sits higher at the waist. Eenie-meenie! And I also enjoy those occasional seasonal weight fluctuations where a few pounds is about one size.
Plan some more tryons-its been so hot that I’ve not put them through all their paces.

But, the size up is longer enough that I’d want to hem up an inch.

I think your fit analysis is smart.

They are great pants--I am also contemplating keeping the pair I ordered. Are they supposed to be as short as shown in the product photo? That's kind of where they are ending on my legs.

Unfrumped, I am THRILLED you are picky about fits! Your reasoning sounds right about going for the more tailored seat in this style. That way you can take advantage of the forgiving fabric and try a different silhouette! As far as I know - the fabric does not stretch out much.

delurked, if it helps, I had these on a 5ft 8 client in a size US10, and they worked well with a low heel or sneaker as FULL length.

Right, Angie! I’d rather not have more to return, but Im trying to be very picky about sizing and it’s so unpredictable as to how much difference there is from size to size. I do think the more fitted seat is likely to win- it takes advantage of this particular fabric and cut to get a different look than the drapier or perhaps, baggier, silhouette I often get in other fabrics. Also makes them work untucked as well as tucked.

delurked, I was afraid they’d be too short, because of how they are shown in the photo, which is not a good length for me. Whereas, too long, can hem. But they are just right and “ forgiving “, as they work with my bulkier athletic sneakers— an important issue because I’ll wear them more often/ casually with my most happy feet— but also with lower Oxford’s and lower profile sneakers.

Thanks for the good review. I have ordered these only in my smaller size, and will make a decision to reorder up if needed (and available). I am definitely concerned about them being too short for me, but will see when they get here. I am fairly tall, but much of my length is through my long torso. I am also only wearing really flat shoes these days, which may make them *just* long enough.

I have a pair of Wit pants from a sale a few years ago, but it is cropped, and I am looking forward to full length pants again. I also wear their jeans and shorts, and have for probably the last decade. (sometimes under the democracy brand, which is definitely the same maker)

Always good to compare sizes. Although the size you have sounds right. ENJOY!

The Wit & Wisdom pants in the plaid arrived today , in the larger of 2 sizes I ordered. I’m sorry I don’t have a styling pic, but I wanted to say, big Thank you, Angie!

I think these are great. I believe this one is the correct size ( I ordered a size down also because of some reviews that they ran big & I was afraid they’d sell out. So those are gonna have to go back!) . So, this size fits more snugly through the seat than I usually wear, but I think that might be how I should fit them due to the stretch fabric, which overcomes some of the fit issues through the seat in pants that are rigid fabrics-and they’re certainly comfortable , and the waist would likely be too big otherwise.
But, I’ve ordered a size up just to see.

Angie, you are right about this “ plaid”. It is the perfect “ false plain” for me. I love the look of plaid pants, but when I try them they are usually “ too much” and not great in the rear view- for me that is.

I didn’t order the solid colors to compare, and am not tempted, since these will go with so many things. I might have when I was working every day, though!

I still love wool pants- am still wearing ( in winter ) some navy pinstriped wide legs. And I still peruse some, would be tempted buy just the right style & fit. But these are so much more practical for my lifestyle now, washable, and for me more comfortable than jeans- packable also- but give me the trouser look that’s still a big part of my style. With belt loops and set-in waistband all around ! A HEWI in a slight- stretch fabric, or even in high-end brands which are doing so many elastic waists.

They are fairly high- rise but not as long in stride , if that’s not inconsistent. Since the belt loops are wide, I first tried a wider belt, but thought that looked off, kind of making them look lower- rise. So then a regular 1” belt is perfect, as it puts the “ waist line” higher.

Sorry to ramble on , but perhaps some of these details will be useful to someone else considering them.
