Well, I have the opposite problem! Prior to placing an order for a new garment (a puffer) I read the reviews online. They were positive on the whole, but there was a consistent complaint that the arms were too long. I thought, 'that's the coat for me!' When it arrived, it fit perfectly and the sleeves were just right!

FWIW, the measurement (index) finger tip to finger tip IS called an Ape Index. If the inches are the same as your height, you score 0. If longer, it is a + and if shorter, it is a -. There are benefits and negatives to having either one!

Jenni, those sleeves are long. I am 5'5 and find I am too short for most Trenery clothes, I think their stock models are about 5'10. Now I would love to be that tall, but since I am not, I usually don't bother even trying their clothes any more. I think you will do better at Pacific Fair!

I noticed the same thing about sizing. When I was in my 20s and very slender, I thought I must have long arms because sleeves were always too short. When I was much larger, it seemed that I must actually have short arms because sleeves were too long. Both scenarios seemed possible because one of my brothers has extremely long arms (positive ape index) and the other one has relatively short arms (negative ape index).

Funny! Thanks all. I don't actually think they're meant to be that long. I just think all people wearing L or XL are supposed to be 6 foot with long arms and legs and the idea of someone having a sticking-out tummy and bottom hasn't occured to the designers, LOL. Strangely my pale pink/pale blue camo top is Trenery L and it fits perfectly, I'm wondering if the sleeves on it were meant to be cropped but are just right for me.
I did see another possible peasanty top in one shop but was tired and hungry after also looking unsuccessfully for silvery sandals and any other top with cobalt and orange. I think I will wait until we go on our next small holiday to Gold Coast on 1st November. We will be staying almost opposite Pacific Fair which is a recently renovated very large Australian shopping centre. Maybe they'll have trans-seasonal tops with some cobalt and orange there. Thanks for your kind comment FC, it is definitely my colour and style but actually I don't like collared shirts that much either so when I got there today I was sorry ( after all my prep of bringing pants and shoes along) that I'd forgotten it had a collar as well. Therefore it is no great loss.

Well they could be designed that way and still be too long. The blouse is so pretty on you. Maybe it's worth having the sleeves altered.

Jenni, you are a good sport to post a picture I know you don't feel comfortable in and your husband laughed at. Bless you. I am short but have longer arms and I know those sleeves would be too long for me.

Maybe your are wearing fashionably long sleeves! :)

Yes, I think JAileen's correct; those sleeves are supposed to extend beyond one's fingers. I guess you can skip the mittens or gloves, but really? How impractical! Among ridiculous styles, this is one of the worst.

No offence meant to those of you with very long arms. You may do a post calling mine T-Rex arms. But in this case, I saw a very nice shirt last Monday when browsing in Trenery. The store gets a B on the ethical fashion list and the shirt would have ticked a lot of boxes- slightly peasant patterning ( paisley) in colours I like and can match with shoes in all 4 seasons in cobalt or orange or various plainer shoes/boots. I checked my lists, I found several items I am considering ditching so it would be one in several out, I took 2 extra pairs of trousers and 3 pairs shoes to try on as well as my cropped dark jeans and loafers. I am also trying to buy for transitional seasons not summer.
To fit my apple shape properly I need L or XL. The sleeves are a good 6 inches too long or more. I felt the brand thinks everyone has gorilla arms! My DH had a good laugh at the photo, thought you all may enjoy it too. Next!
