Thanks to all who replied-- I'm really glad to be back.

Rachy -- as always, you made me smile. I'm not mad about crops either, but it is nice to have the option on those days one forgets to shave one's ankles, if ya know what I mean. He was traveling with a temp job from July of 2016-Jan 2017 so I saw him a few times a month. Then he was back east for 6 months, home for a couple weeks, traveling for a couple weeks, then at another temporary job about 10 hours away for 6 months . . . that was very difficult since he didn't have ready access to phone or internet or services. Now he is working about 8 hours away. We are definitely looking to go back and forth more, but it will be limited at first since Jun-Sept. is both of our busy seasons at work. Thanks for asking!

Sarah -- thanks for chiming in. I had never thought to look at H&M-- 34-35 is a decent length for bootcuts, especially since I'm normally a flats girl. I will have to try a pair.

K -- How did I forget about Levis? Actually, their website is so much better than I remember it being, which might be why I've overlooked it in the past since I was so online-focused where I used to live. They used to be good fit, so I will definitely try some out.

Angie -- Thanks for the warm welcome back! I was eyeing that Loft jacket in your post the other day. I also love that I can order a small tall (sizing down) without sacrificing the sleeves, which is why I didn't size down with my current jacket. I also am eyeing that Anthro jacket. I will definitely hit Levis for jeans and the denim shirt. I really like the idea of the Madewell top . . . I had a similar shirt I was considering from ON (see find below). Thanks for the eye on the shoes, as well.

Diana -- AE and Lucky are both good suggestions . . . I may need to go try some styles in store and then order talls online.

Staysfit -- Thanks for chiming in to help out a fellow long inseam gal! The info about those particular brands is super helpful. I remembered that premium and semi-premium denim used to be good for longer inseams, but that was back when most people were buying bootcuts and straight legs. Madewell and J Crew, too. I'm with you . . . 34 is my ideal, 32 will work depending on the shoes and season and style, 30 is definitely "ankle", 35 is a must with boots.

Sheryl -- American giant is a good suggestion. I like their stuff, unfortunately I tried the moto hoodie and found the fabric too thick for my purposes for this particular piece. I strongly recommend them though!

This has been amazingly helpful in jumpstarting my search. I put together a small order of jeans, jackets, and tops and hope to do some brick and mortar try ons this weekend. I have a few more things I'm considering, too. I'm still looking for the right zip up . . . then on to refreshing the t-shirt capsule (black and grey are essentials for me) since my current ones are no longer made.

I will keep you posted as the post comes in.

Check American Giant and Everlane for a black sweatshirt. American Giant has a nice moto-style jacket in black fleece.

Elly, Hudson jeans and J Brand jeans sometimes have small tall sizes. You need to look on their websites and purchase directly from them though. I might also check Madewell to see if they have tall size 2’s. I sometimes find them on the JCrew website, although the range of styles available is limited. My inseam is just shy of 34”, it’s 33.5” so I look for 34” in a full length inseam minimum unless it’s for boot or flare, which really need a longer length.

Good luck!

I'd try Lucky Brand for the jeans - they usually have a good selection of bootcuts and a wide range of lengths in every size. You might have to order online as I'm not sure they stock everything in the physical stores. American Eagle might be worth a look too.

I second the suggestion for Levis full length - and try your classic denim shirt their too. The Danskos look great.

Elly, H&M sells some of its jeans by inseam, would 34" be long enough for you? (I take a 29" inseam so I don't know from Talls lol.) They do offer 25s but I have found that brand to run very small so you might even need to go up a size or two.

Hi Elly! So were y’all traveling back and forth? I like the idea of trying crops, they’re fresh, but feel you should also have your full-length standard. But I know nothing about what’s out there...

I can't believe how long it has been since I've written a post! I've continued to follow the blog and forum, but time has slipped away from me. Last time I posted, I was adjusting to my new job in Arizona. In the spring of 2016 my partner had to take some time off of work for some training (he moved cross country to attend in 2017) and I went on a shopping diet. He is finally back to working full time, permanently and after two years of very little addition to my wardrobe it is time to get back into the swing of things.

In addition to all that, I've lost about 15 pounds over the course of the last year. Unfortunately, I've realized that this has sized me out of many of my go to brands, especially for jeans/pants. I'm 5'9" with a long/tall inseam, and was previously between a 4 and an 8 depending on the fit. I was a huge Gap/BR/Kut fan because of the talls. Since losing weight, I now wear a 25/2 in most pants and Gap now stops their talls and long inseams at a size 4. I wore a couple of pairs of decently fitting bootcuts during the winter and a pair of straight legs that were less than ideal. Now that Arizona summer is upon us, I need to upgrade my pants/jeans capsule since my laundry needs will increase with the heat. I wear jeans or pants almost every weekday because of the AC in my building. Typically, I'm on team "buy the full length" and then roll as needed for an ankle pant look. However, currently I can only purchase a regular (which is a full 4" shorter than I typically wear my bootcuts) in my go to brands. Do I go for the cropped look, or are there other brands I should try? I'm also in need of some alternatives to blue jeans to add a bit of variety to my look.

I'm also on the lookout for suggestions for the following pieces:

Jean jacket-- my current denim jacket is from CO and is the perfect length to wear with pants and to layer underneath. However, it doesn't look great with skirts or dresses . . . I need suggestions for a great slimmer or more cropped piece.

Denim shirt-- I'm also looking for a lightweight denim/chambray shirt to wear as a layering piece open over pants and tied over skirts and dresses. I have a heavier, boxy one, but want something softer or otherwise more appropriate to wear as a layering piece over a dress, etc.

Black "travel" sweatshirt/jacket-- My go to layering piece for work trips bit the dust this year. It was a simple zip up "track jacket" made out of a almost flocked-feeling nylon with a mock neck collar that I could layer over any top while on the road, but was still slim enough to layer under another jacket. I frequently travel with a personal item or carry on for work and need something durable and versatile that doesn't look too much like gear.

Since my weight loss and probably partially because of the femininity and detail that has become more popular again with fashion I've noticed that I'm skewing a little more feminine than I used to . . . I think I fit the "girly tomboy" moniker much more than I used to. I still want to look and feel like me, but with the slimmer figure I feel like I don't have to fight my curves as much and am less concerned about a bit of feminine detail. That said, I'm considering trying a pair of Danskos as a summer sandal alternative for work, where closed-toe shoes are preffered and am considering the pair below. With the cut out edge, are they too feminine for my style?

Thanks for listening! It is good to see you all again and I appreciate any feedback and recs you ladies can provide.

Below are some finds for items I've purchased in the past year or so and the Danskos in question.
