Angie, that’s what a quarter century can do to a person, lol. I’d have to be in a very blingy mood to wear 5 with 6, but with that skirt, there’s no halfway, so I could do the skirt and shell with a long gold-colored necklace (maybe the one from #1, maybe something shinier), the boots and the moto. I’m not kidding. That is not a Tampa outfit, but in Berlin, I bet it would fit in just fine.

SarahD8, no jacquard on the blouse. Totally smooth fabric. Tbh, I’m a bit puzzled by its warm reception here. I couldn’t get your link to open without more signing up and hoop-jumping than I’m into tonight.

The Cat, thanks for your suggestions. After the response here, I’m thinking I should take out the small shoulder pads and try it again with something, but what? You’ve given me a good start.

I love that pic of you in #1. FABULOUS.

Can you wear #5 with #6?

I love the college photo! I actually think something quite similar could be worn today, perhaps with different accessories.

3 and 4 look dated to me (I know I am the outlier re: 4, but it is something about the shapes in the print along with what I am perceiving as a jacquard texture. And the pocket shape.).

5 is FANTASTIC. I would definitely try to work it into casual outfits. I like cindysmith's styling ideas. My impulse would be to wear it with flat brown sandals and a simple black knit tank for a sort of Mediterranean minimalist look, but that might not be your glass of rose.

ETA like this: https://www.bloglovin.com/blog.....4393786409

The shells seem quite versatile! If you have multiples definitely ditch the ones that are stained.

Cute photo from college.

The blouse in #4 looks great and could easily be mixed with casual as well as elegant items (preferably with simple lines) like:
- chinos
- velvet or corduroy pants
- straight or A-line skirts
- cardigan
- loafers

Aurore, thank you for the idea to go with light colors. Why didn’t I think of that?

CindySmith, those are great styling ideas. I don’t think my combat boots would work, because they’re too tall. Besides clashing metal I could have sequins caught in the hooks. But my Clarks and this moto jacket might work.

I think that 4,5 and 6 all look very modern and could be worn as suggested above .They are all quite muted for metallic pieces so as long as you don’t wear them all at once I think you could wear them day as well as night.I m not as keen on the first 3 pieces as they look a little more dated to my eye and are more glitzy so would be harder to style.

The tank tops would go well with jeans or navy trousers. The blue is less high-co treat and less formal than black or white.

That skirt could be done with a t-shirt or casual knit top with nice casual shoes. (I would totally rock that skirt with one of the booties in my finds and the metallic scarf in finds to give it *some* edge. If I really wanted a RATE edge, I'd put it over black leggings, add a knit top, and toss on a moto-jacket with it; to go rough all over (maybe a little punk, even) I'd do combat or tactical boots with it. But I'm weird, and that might be too much edge for most.

I have no idea what to tell you to do with the skirt & embroidered blouse because I don't do either skirts or really femme things like the blouse.

I also generally don't do button up shirts, but that grey-ish looking one would be kind of interesting with jeans and western style boots.

I agree with Liz. The gold shell and its bronze twin seem quite versatile - upon seeing the photo I immediately thought of this top under a white blazer with jeans (as in the attached photo), or alone with white bottoms in summer.

I like the blouse in photo #4 as well, I think that it would look great paired with light casual trousers (such as cream chinos) and flats.

I think a shell like the last one would be relatively easy to dress up or down. I could even see that in a casual outfit with jeans, and it wouldn't look like you tried too hard at all.

The dark skirt could still work in a dressier outfit, but I think I would let the others go with a lesson learned about buying for your real life

Today’s post brings up something I’ve known for a while that i need to address: metallic clothing. I like it, I buy it, and then I rarely wear it. Passing it on feels like giving up part of a dream. Prime examples are bronze and gold lurex tank tops. They were probably intended to be part of very dressy looks. I’d like to work out outfits where they provide an edgy bite, but when I try, I generally feel they look like I’m a Try Hard, which is the last way I’d ever want to come across in anything.

1. A formal in college. I don’t think I have any of those pieces any more, except the necklace, which is still a favorite.

3 is the placket of a blouse worn with 2, and tall black boots, opaque black hose, and a black peplum jacket. I think I would wear this again, perhaps with a different jacket, if the occasion arose. This may well happen with upcoming changes in my life.

4. Worn under a suit occasionally back in the day. It’s a much nicer blouse than its awkward positioning here makes it out to be, but is probably too “poofy” for me to wear now.

5. Never worn, primarily for lack of occasion, but also for lack of guts. Probably entirely passé now. Sorry the site software turned it sideways—don’t think I can fix it now.

6. Gold tank top/shell.

Not pictured: lurex bronze shell just like the gold one, second gold one that does not have weird purple stains. I always feel I should wear them with browns and tans that don’t work well for me, or black, which feels too .... formal? Harsh? I’m not sure what, but it doesn’t feel good.
