weird thought: Are gold zippers something a cobbler could put *in* your boots? Can zippers be swapped out easily?

I prefer the Bed Stu pair...I think they could do a wide variety of looks. That style is a little crampy in the toe. You would probably need to go up half a size, but heeI might slip. I bought a similar pair by Bed Stu, and while gorgeous, they pinched my feet. For reference, I am always a 9 with narrower feet so I can wear just about any shoe (unless it squeezes my bony toes!)

I tried those Everybody boots in a shorter purple version. The leather is fairly delicate and there were a couple of flaws with the pair I got from Amazon (like a scratch on the heel and some scuffing). They seemed like they would scuff easily too, at least with careless me. But they WERE adorable!

I LOVE the first pair. But did you want more flair?

I definitely prefer the Bed Stu design. I think the cognac buckle distracts from the rivets significantly.

Overall agreed with Mochi!

But for me, I think the first is a subtle flair of fashion and the second is more flashy. But I think the second borderlines on pirate dress. I like the overall look of it, but am not digging the brown strap bit. I would find myself trying to match my outfit to it. I vote for the first mainly on the fact thaht it gives the boot a little bit of edge without being to custome.

Nancy, that's actually why I nixed most of the gold zipper boot suggestions from the other thread - the zipper was not exposed enough for the statement I wanted. I wanted it to be on the outside for a reason!

But yeah, I think you're right. If I do decide to go for plain then I'd probably just go for black or hidden zippers. I'm still not convinced I want plain though. =P Have just posted another thread asking about the necessity of plain tall boots.

If you don't need statement boots, are you willing to let go of the gold zippers? You might find something that's overall nicer, less expensive, etc. To me it also seems that if the zipper isn't a prominent part of the design (ie on the outside of the boot, like the Gogo I linked to), then you're not getting that much mileage from it as a detail. IMHO.

See, maybe i do need some plainer tall boots. All of my tall boots are pretty statementy. I have two pairs of lace ups (cognac and the flat rockery black ones), which are always statementy when tall, my very shiny grey patent Naots w/ buckles, and some crazy patterned funky/chunky Naots.

Even my old black riding boots that I got rid of last year b/c they weren't comfy were not really that plain and had brogue detailing.

Argh, now I am getting confused. I'm just bored by shopping for plain black boots so I never want to look at them, but I can also see how they would be good in a lot of outfits.

Hmm, actually am going to start another thread asking about this.

I don't like the seaming on the front of the everybody's and I am not that excited about the brown buckle on the black boots. My eye can't reconcile it, it looks like a mistake to me.

I like the first ones alot. I can see why Mochi says that they are "nothing special." these are actually my favorite kind of long, tall riding boots that are subtly decorated and let the rest of the outfit do the talking.

Zap, if I happen to find the gold zipper boots, I'd get those too! I'm not a minimalist, LOL. =P These are different enough. I've just decided that I prefer gold to silver hardware in general these days, especially with black.

Deb, #1 has a side zip, #2 has a back zip. I'm not crazy about back zips but it's not because of looks, I think they're not as comfortable and can be a bit stiff.

Mochi, I know what you mean. The first boot is just not gold enough for me, I think, and it's just kind of boring. I actually don't have tall plain black boots right now though (but I have lived without them for a year so... ). I do have a really rockery flat pair with tons of lacing. The ones you've linked are nice, but I don't want any more midcalf black boots.

I do like #2 better, I think, but I'm not sure I like them enough to pay $250+ for them. I would prefer them without the cognac strap. Wonder if it's removable? Will think on this a bit more, and maybe they will go down in price.

I like the simplicity of the first pair better. There's a lot going on in the second pair - hi/low top, rivets, 2 colours, plus the ankle strap.

Okay, here are my thoughts, since I'm not you but obviously you're asking for my opinion I am not feeling that strongly for either boot. If pressed, I would pick the first one; the buckle on the Pavena is jarring. The first boot is nice but nothing that special to me...if you've got tall black boots, I don't see how this would add much to your collection? The rivets are nice little details but don't knock my socks off.

OTOH, and I know this boot has a shaft that's not tall enough for your requirements, but did you look at this one yet?:

http://www.lorisshoes.com/boot.....ml?from=15

Since you're not finding the boot that fulfills all the qualifications, I would give this some consideration. It's very striking with the design and the distressed leather, and the gold zippers really are details that aren't hidden away. It's a boot that would probably get you tons of compliments. If you want a dressier, more everyday boot that has a tiny bit of oomph, then go for the Bullet.

(and I'll echo Zapotee and float the idea that you may want to hold out and wait for the perfect boot.....)

These are not really close to your original idea. I guess that's OK? I just find that when I'm determined to find a specific item and end up with another, I still feel that need when the new purchase rush fades away. If you are *really* hoping to find that black boot, I would stick with your original list of wants.

But hey, that's not really your question :)

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions on my thread yesterday about black boots with gold hardware! I've decided that black boots with visible gold zippers are really hard to find (the best one were the Jimmy Choos that Anna linked, but they are oh, 4X my budget!). I did however stumble across a couple of pairs of black boots with gold buttons/rivets, which are also very cool.

Here are a couple of options I'm considering.

1. Bed:Stu Bullet boots. I emailed the company and they told me the hardware is brass (not exactly gold, and in some photos it looks more silvery). The rivets are on the outside and there is a brass zipper on the inside. I'm not convinced it reads as gold really. I found these for around $150 on another site in my size, but I'd have to pay shipping and returns. I'm not sure about the comfort level - the slightly upturned cowbody-style front is not always the best for me and my feet, plus the toe box looks shallow.
http://www.amazon.com/BED-Wome.....stu+bullet

2: Everybody Pavena boots. These have fab bright gold rivets on both sides (and a back zipper). It does have the cognac buckle at the ankle, which I originally did not want, but I actually don't mind how this one looks, and the cognac is a fun contrast. These are more expensive, but I know that Everybody shoes are high quality and quite comfy and the leather is very soft. The description says the shaft is 13.5", which is too short for me, but since the front part comes up higher, it might be OK. i can't find calf width info but they look like they're wide enough, plus there is an elastic gore.
http://www.amazon.com/Everybod.....ody+pavena

So, which do you prefer?
