I have had to be advocate educator to doctors to myself to family to friends to strangers. I’ve had to fight for my daughter in the battle of our lives. I thought going to thyroid battle was horrible but seeing your child paralyzed is heart breaking. Seeing her recover one step at a time is a miracle in and of itself. If you YouTube these families of AFM acute flaccid myelitis it is hard braking system shutting down Organs shutting down bodies shutting down. To say that we are blessed is so selfish to say that we are lucky and we benefited from those parents and children who suffered in the path is more equitable. </p> <p>The struggle is real at times it’s so worth it just see the joy on my daughters face to to see her smile at her accomplishments. the days are moving by blinding really fast. To know which way to go to try and do the next right thing as Anna says in Frozen 2. If you haven’t seen that movie it’s amazing but there is a song that that basically said I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m going to do the next right thing. th<br /> It is my motivational song well I don’t know what to do. I am winging it I am trying not to cry I am so over filled with emotions but all I can do is the next right thing. Not for myself but for my daughter. </p> <p>Life still goes on I am off of work for the next two months but I feel like I need to return to work so I can have time to take my daughter to her doctors appointments and the things that she needs to go to there’s so many decisions to make as a solo parent there is no one else to look for except yourself.</p> <p>Sometimes I ask God why ? whY did you do this? why did you allow this to happen why? there is no answer no. I think that’s the hardest part. I used to think I wanted to know Why her father why he left but I don’t even care anymore and I know from God I will never have an answer. </p> <p>My daughter is doing so well the doctors call her a miracle but there are things that are wrong there are things that we have to overcome. She will be fitted with orthotics. She will see a specialist next Monday and will wear braces from her knee down and her ankle to her foot. That got me very emotional I know this is very long and I really appreciate you reading it I’m trying not to I don’t know I’m I’m I’m somewhere in between kind of sleepwalking and being awake. I call her my midlife miracle. We were getting ready to go to the Museum of contemporary Art as we do on Saturdays or some other place. Zions said I cannot stand up she said mom I want to stand up but I can’t mama I want to move my legs but they not working. Assist a plan baby I stood her up on the bed she collapsed in the bed a sitter up again if she collapsed in the bed I brought to the floor and she collapsed to the floor I said stop playing babyWe went to the floor and I walked back and she collapsed and she started little crawling to me but she wasn’t crawling with her legs she was crying and pulling herself with her arms.</p> <p>My sister and I live together as most of y’all know share a home to go upstairs to my sister and I said look at this does really look at this. We went through the same test as a be a rush my baby to the hospital right now five minute drive later seven hours later three doctors with her blood test positive nothing came back clean x-rays nothing broken clean cat scan clean. Let’s hold them to a spiral check on my baby because all my Facebook friends said have them check her spam he said when I capable of doing that. We are transported 1030 that night to another hospital.</p> <p>He Children’s Hospital I didn’t even know the name of the Children’s Hospital had to Google it on a transport the roads were icy and dangerous here in Chicago. We got a room we are checked in and the next day she saw a specialist seven specialist neurologist neurologist Y neurologist nothing to myself. They said we’re gonna do a lumbar puncture I don’t know what that is. They said it’s like a epidural wore a needle goes in your back. Then said they were going to do an MRI Oh my baby the lumbar puncture didn’t go well because she’s two years old and I want to stay still and they gave her a sedative instead of putting her to sleep. CDC 500 cases in America attacking children common cold polio virus a my mind shut down.</p> <p>My baby has been in the hospital for 10 days therapist occupational therapist physical therapist 37 doctors 37 doctors neurologist visiting neurologist CBC case studies because I want to google “I couldn’t understand it all and I cried and I poured my heart out on Facebook because that’s my whole why I left is my home to but Facebook is my home where I can make videos and put out pictures it’s a bit easier to connect. But I had to come here and let you know that my baby is sick and I’m loading a nightmare.</p> <p>It was then that I realize that I needed to pray and ask God the higher power working in my life and in my child’s life things did not go the way I want it to people did not come who I needed to be there put in a missing that God showed up in my face or stronger as a side my bad my baby stay at school to crawl in the intervening days eventually stand up eventually start walking like a toddler trying to learn how to walk her first time. I’m giving all the condensed version because I told a story so much.</p> <p>God change my nightmare and my daughters nightmare into a testimony a live testimony. My daughter is on heavy medications to include steroids she has swelling in her bag swelling inside of her spine the steroids take the swelling down to help her walk because of her advocacy because of her boys we rested to the emergency room she was able to tell the doctors at two years old how she was feeling where she was feeling pain why she was doing certain things. It affects the nervous system, specifically the area of the spinal cord called gray matter, which causes the muscles and reflexes in the body to become weak. Because of these symptoms, some people call AFM a "polio-like" illness. The cause of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is unknown.<br /> Anyone can get AFM, but most of the recent cases have been in children.<br /> While I am blessed to to be employed and have medical insurance, I will need to take a 12 week unpaid leave of absence to tend to Zion Joy’s new reality. I’m requesting assistance to meet our living and medical expenses during my leave of absence. Any donation is both welcomed and appreciated. </p>
