You’ve summed up one of the reasons I prefer Autumn/Winter dressing to Spring/Summer - the earthy and darker colours are better for me and they feel right in cool weather. I agree jewel colours are a good compromise. Not the best colours for me, but not bad. Plus I enjoy them (not so keen on pastels). I like them for summer. I will wear an emerald green, sapphire blue or dark red in Spring/Summer. They feel fresher in the humidity than the earthy colours. My other trick is to wear pattern on bottom. That way I can introduce some contrast and lightness but still wear a good “face colour”. </p> <p>Suz, thanks! I could do a Marilyn. I remember being sad when I was 'diagnosed' as a DA, precisely because I thought it meant that I couldn't wear all of the ubiquitous pastels &amp; brights that are common in summer (dominant season in Hong Kong) near my face. I also was already dressing in dark colours on my bottom half for flattery reasons (pear shaped) &amp; cleanliness reasons (anyone who can wear white shorts on public transport &amp; not get them dirty deserves a medal!) </p> <p>I feel jewel tones give me the right depth &amp; warmth without being too drab, but agree that it can feel too 'heavy' in the summer. Maybe a dark wooden or jewel toned necklace could help balance this? Have pulled off turquoise tops this way before, with a teal necklace or scarf around my face </p> <p>Anyway sorry to go on a tangent lol. Mustard is a good summertime compromise for DAs, as is cream or soft white. The boots are great. I’d like a pair in teal I actually have a similar pair of boots in a stone/light taupe colour but they have heels. Only 2 inch heels (block) but that feels high now. I bought them before I hurt my back. At that time I considered 2 inches a low heel But I much prefer a lower or no heel now. I regret buying them but I wasn’t to know. I prefer darker or saturated colours near my face with some warmth in them. Dark reds, rusts, browns. But I also prefer darker colours on bottom for flattery reasons and practicality (dogs!). So I end up with lots of darker items. Which is a shame because I like contrast too. Every now and again I get an urge to bring in the light!</p> <p>Janet, thanks. You and I have a lot of similar colour preferences - except for mustard It can be hard in summer - so many light pastel colours and light bright colours around. I’m not drawn to them and many make me feel washed out. But seasonally it feels right in summer to go lighter and fresher. Turquoise is a great option for you. It’s not great on me.
