I use them for items with wide necklines that would slip off otherwise, and for cardigans to keep the shoulders from getting stretched out. (Except for skirts and pants, of course.)</p> <p>I agree with Helena that 1 in, 1 out is perfection, and not to let yourself feel like a failure if you don't meet it. I may be the only person who doesn’t! I don’t like how my tops stick to them when taking on &amp; off the hangers. Plus, if used to hang things so close together, it encourages me to crowd things. But, I do need some of that flocking to keep things on. So I got these Olka hangers because of how they’re smooth but curved, and put little stick- on pads on them. Weird maybe but works for me. </p> <p>The Container Store doesn’t seem to carry them anymore, which could be good for me as a hanger limit!</p> <p>Also, I like the one- ended pant hangers, plus some clamp hangers. If I had more of the right space I’d put all my pants on clamps at eye- level. </p> <p>One thing that’s so great about your reorganization is that over time it’ll prompt more “ epiphanies “. Often when you’re not even focused on more wardrobe editing. I keep a few extras as I have maybe one or two break in a year. Although I am also trying to reduce the size of my wardrobe by giving away extra hangers when I thin out the closet so I am not tempted to fill them back up. </p> <p>For blazers and jackets I use sturdier wooden hangers. I have a friend who is on, let's call it the attractive side of being a hoarder, and she hired a professional to help her clean out her closets. It was hard for her to do, not only the cost, but getting rid of so many things that she had invested emotional energy in. So I really appreciate how difficult this was for you to do. And having such an organized closet is so peaceful for the mind. It makes it so much more pleasant to pick out an outfit.</p> <p>I will second the use of velvet hangers for shirts and blazers and dresses. Just make sure they're heavy duty. If you can bend them when you're holding them, I have found they're not strong enough. I also recommend the open-ended metal hangers for pants. They're very sleek and it's easy to slide your pants off them when you need them. But on a looser time frame I think it works. So I do rotate seasons, which as you point out has a risk of not remembering what I’ve got or expanding a season too much. </p> <p>So I’m working on some systems to mitigate that. For now I’m working on keeping in plain view all the mild- to medium weight items and layering weights—because, SOMEBODY can’t resist one more LS T- too or button- front shirt— and practicing how to wear those spring and fall and any time weather allows &amp; track which ones are the recurring faves vs benchwarmers and dupes. </p> <p>I think you’re on a great path— you’ll be seeing things and what you’re wearing, or not. Iv not been very motivated to do the “ turn all your hangers backwards “ thing, but that is one tactic that a big hanging system allows. </p> <p>Not sure what your petite hanger needs are. I need smaller- sized jacket/ blazer hangers but have not bought any online- have hoarded ones from way back, ancient department store brands that used smaller “ lady- sized” shaped suit hangers. </p> <p>I have however used flocked “ petite” hangers from The Container Store for a specific area in my closet. I have some rod space that runs behind a set of wall cubbies, so that the side of the cubbies impinge on the hanging depth if regular hangers, most any type, are used.
