I love 17 for you, and I don’t think they seem redundant with your current collection. 19 are fun, but that’s a lot of look, especially if you go brighter with your hair again. I wanted subtle with my frames this time around because of the color in my hair. But take your time and make sure you’re feeling it, whatever you choose! Since you have so many fab options that you still love, there is no rush.

I love that you got a very different look to add to your collection, Kari. They look great on you, and they will obviously work with lots of outfits. I really love the turquoise ones on you, too. Yes, they are a lot more prominent than your others, but wow! I think you could pull off that look. And yes, they are quite a look, but super chic in my book, kind of a take on the statement glasses of Linda Rodin, but a take that suits you.

Oh, that is smart! And promising!
I think Angie has done the same at the place that I got my specs.
I’m crossing my fingers that they order some that work. I think the olive color looked great on you, but you’re wise to hold out for a shape that is a 10/10 for your face.

Kari, pardon me if I’m hi-jacking your thread, but I think folks in the market for specs will read it, and my experience today might be useful.

I have visited every B&M optician in my community (1) and the neighbouring town (5) as a source for specs. Two places were promising. One had a HUGE selection with lots of European brands - but the store was dark (both times I visited) and the SA aloof (both times I visited!) The second shop had a smaller selection, but LOTS of coloured frames. The store was bright with large North facing windows and in a brilliant piece of marketing, the specs were grouped by COLOUR and displayed like a rainbow across the walls.

Returning to the second shop, I explained that while I wasn’t going to take the olive frames, I was back to look over their stock, since I believed their store aligned with my aesthetic. While I re-evaluated what was available, the SA did a computer search of inventory available to her, restricting her search by shape, colour, and size (based on what would fit me best)* She then volunteered to bring in 3 frames plus a different colour way of one I tried on in the store - for a total of 4. They are all cat’s eyes, and olive or mixed colours of olive, and tortoiseshell. When they arrive, she will give me a call and I can go in and try them on!

*Lens width, bridge width (and sometimes lens height) as well as temple (arm) length.

They may be old, but they are SUCH great frames. I love them on you too!

(My Pearl2's survived a destructive doggy chomp a few years ago that totally trashed the lenses - the boutique I got them from was over the top kind and replaced the lenses for free.)

Definitely keep FaceaFace and Orgreen on your radar for wide faces. They have been great for years.

Thank you. One note - it's actually pretty hard to find frames that suit me! My face is very wide and my eyes are kinda wide apart too. Often I'll go into a shop and there are maybe a couple frames that fit me (even after the arms are adjusted so I can get the darn things on.) And often the frames that fit are really not what I'm looking for - kind of boring.

So I spend a lot of time poking around in glasses shops and researching what's available, and then when I do find a stunning pair - like these - I go back and keep trying them on for a couple months to make sure they really, really work.

Like the key for the Warby Parker pair: I liked them, but there was something *just* slightly off about the fit, even once they came out with a wide width. But then I learned that they started to offer a low bridge pair. It is barely noticeable when you look at the frames side by side, but it makes a difference on my face.

Thanks for sharing your specs collection. You have good specs karma! Good idea to ‘slow shop’ - I was starting to feel a little panicky, so took a day off. I’m going to revisit one of the shops today - in part because of the inventory (colour), in part because of the SA who looked after me.

One note about 17 vs. the ones that I got: the frames alone for 17 would have been 4x the price of what I paid for the frames plus lenses for the Warby Parker specs (and that's without adding lenses.) They would absolutely be worth it - boutique prices but also extremely high quality. However, they really don't fill a "hole" in my glasses collection and are similar enough to what I have that I can't justify spending that kind of $ at this time.
But I'm definitely keeping those frames on the back burner for 2020 (when allowance starts over) if budget allows. They are truly beautiful.

17 is great, I dont think they're too much of a duplicate. And 18 is also beautiful, more muted, and I think the temples are a bit of a statement but ok since the color is muted.

You look so great in your glasses and I love how the new glasses are very different from your bright and colourful ones in your collection. #17 are beautiful on you, but really I would find it hard to tell the difference from #6, unless I saw you change between the glasses. The pearl glasses give you a totally new and different colour to play with. I have some pearl glasses and love how soft the colour is - which is quite a change from my previous dark frames.

What a great collection of eyewear! I really can’t pick a favorite. I love them all. 5, 9 and 12 are gorgeous, but I love your new specs and the older ones in 15 as well. Agree with your rationale on the ones you didn’t get - those turquoise ones are fun, but I think I’d always see the glasses first no matter who was wearing them.

I had some eyewear insurance allowance to spend this year and was trying to decide what direction to go. Another pair of specs? Or prescription sunglasses? Contacts? Both?

(Unusually compared to my past insurance allowances, my current plan has a generous reimbursement that allows BOTH specs and contacts if applicable.)

I’ve been super lucky to have a stable prescription for glasses for many years, and since my eyes grew less tolerant to wearing contacts, I slowly used insurance vision allowances to accumulate a collection of fun specs to rotate between. This time around I decided to add another pair of specs. I wear them daily, except for rare contacts occasions.

The first 3 pictures are my new specs, @warbyparker Louise in wide, low-bridge elderflower crystal. I wanted a more neutral option that still felt stylish and fun. I also was interested in a second all-plastic pair as sometimes my silicone irritation makes silicone nose pads challenging for my skin.
(Please pardon the not-great quality pictures. I haven’t been able to take a pic in great light AND with makeup/styling!)

Subsequent pictures show the other glasses that I wear/rotate. (@alainmikliparis, @orgreenoptics, and @faceaface_paris from @marketoptical Seattle over many years - I am an extremely loyal customer as no one has beat their customer service and quality of frame selection.)

The last pair is also Orgreen, called Pussycat, inspired by a race car. I love them. I got them in 2011 and they are starting to get rather delicate, and I think they looked most awesome when I had shorter hair, so I don’t wear them as often anymore. Pic 15 is from 2011.

Here are 3 pairs I considered. I think it’s helpful to see ALMOST but not quite possibilities. I’ve learned from shopping with YLF members over the years, and from Angie’s guidelines, to be very discerning and picky, and shop SLOW. (I usually try and think about glasses for months before I buy - even at Warby Parker prices.)

17. FaceaFace titanium, navy and fuchsia. Not as dark as they look in this lighting. Now, I actually LOVE these. The shape is terrific on me. They are light. But they are also styled quite similar to my other titanium specs in 5-7. The colors are similar to the titanium frames in 8-10, but not as good on me. (There are other colors available but the pair I tried would still be the best with my coloring.)
Also my hair was in its faded rosy blonde, not pink or red or purple at that point. I think maybe the frames would get “lost” against my hair when it’s darker and red/pink/burgundy. If I did not have BOTH frames in 5–10 I would have purchased this pair.
18. LA Eyeworks. These are SO close, the color is great and the shape is ALMOST right. But the temples are too heavy and blocky.
19. FaceaFace. REALLY fun turquoise plastic. But they are a lot. The optician said that they would work, but (in my words) it would be less “oh, there’s Kari - she has red hair and great specs” and more “lady with the turquoise glasses.” If these had more dimension - a lighter contrasting color or arms, like my emerald pair in 11-13 - I think they wouldn’t take over my face as much.

20-23 are my prescription sunglasses. A year and a half old, Warby Parker Tilley.

So for what it’s worth, that’s what I got and passed by! (Aside from the many outright no’s and frames that didn’t fit at all.)
