Where have you been looking for specs, Lady? What criteria are you looking for? I'm afraid that I missed any threads on your previous glasses search, but maybe I can keep an eye out while I'm looking for myself.

i'm glad to see you're hunting for a new pair. I like the zest of the red on you but not in love with the size. i was going to suggest looking for another red pair that fit your face a touch better.

good luck! i've given up the hunt at the moment. i have not had much luck in the frame dept.

Thanks for your input, and I think that Marley hit the nail on the head - if the red pair was the best pair of glasses I could find, I would update them, no question. They aren't bad - a sassy color, good "lift", and the general shape is good for me (though, like Tara mentioned, they are a little angular.) But I fell in love with the burgundy and turquoise pair that I got in spring '09 and feel like they "scale" better to my face.

Okay: the search is on for a new secondary pair of specs. Stay tuned, because I'm sure I'll be hitting the forum up for feedback. If I'm not able to find any by the end of the calendar year, I'll just spend my $150 on contact lenses and wait for 2011 to buy glasses.

I am going to stay with this general shape.but look for the width of the burgundy & turquoise pair. (Width is key for me in terms of the frame size, too - my temples are very wide.) We'll see what turns up!

Responding to this without reading others' posts - if I had not seen your favorites, I'd say keep the red frames - however, do you want FAB frames or just OK? If so, I'd say update the red ones - they're cute, but obviously (from your favorites we can see!) you can do MUCH better!

I love the color of the red glasses, but I find the shape a little bit too sharp for you. I like your favorites, because they have a softer feel (I think because they have a bit more of a curve.) It's very subtle of course, but I say update!

Not going to tell you what to do, but I was actually thinking in your recent WIW post that you have really great glasses. I guess those are the same as your favorites. If I hadn't seen those I would say the red are nice, but the brown ones make them pale by comparison.

Send those red glasses to me and get yourself a new pair! :)

I am on the hunt for a new everyday frame myself. I'll be curious to see what you end up doing! I am having no luck finding ones I like, and the change in my hair color did not help matters. I thought I was going for a frameless pair but with the darker hair I need more definition now.

I'm going to be a major spanner.

I vote update the red frames and get a new pair. I prefer the width of your favourite specs too! You may have outgrown your red specs.

I also like the red frames better than your favorites. I'd say get new lenses, especially if you struggle finding frames that really suit you, as I do.

Kari, I have a feeling there is a YLF position on glasses, and I'm not familiar with it, but I really like your red glasses--indeed, I like them at least as well as your favorites. I'm not sure what you should do, though, because your two pairs of glasses are (at least to me) pretty similar. So one thought (alternative to contact-buying) is to spend your insurance money on a new and really different pair of glasses: rimless? dark-framed? etc.

I recently visited my optometrist and found that in two years, my eyes haven't changed all that much. (Hooray!) My left eye is practically the same, and my right eye has only slightly changed.
This is great news, because it means that my 3+ month supply of contacts is still good, and my favorite glasses, which have a year old prescription, should still be good for a long while.

Now here's the question: in terms of my red glasses, which have an older prescription, should I update the lenses? Or should I wave goodbye to the red pair (keep them for a backup option) and spend my insurance money for this year on a new pair of glasses?

(Keep in mind: I only get $150 per year to spend on lenses & hardware from my vision insurance. Unless I go somewhere like Costco that offers discount prices, my lenses are expensive because I have to have the lenses made from a lighter composite material, anti-glare coating, and scratch resistant coating. However, I could update the red glasses now - or get a $150 supply of contact lenses now - and spend my $150 next year towards new glasses & frames.)

The red glasses are photographed in the links below - I can't upload directly from the computer. I haven't worn them very much in the past year simply because the prescription is weaker than my other glasses or contacts; otherwise, I still love them. But I'd like to hear from you on whether they are cute enough compared with my other glasses to bother updating.
