Hi Anne, this might be a repeat of what several previous posters have said already, but I think the rectangular shape of your cousin's glasses is very good for you, and in terms in colors I'd try either some blue/greens or a red with pink undertones. I think the colors and the frame material should be softer (e.g. plastic rather than metal), but the shape can be more edgy than what you've worn before and less round. Hope this helps, and I totally look forward to seeing pictures along the way!

Becky, thanks so much for weighing in on this. You are right we do have similiar colouring (as well as similar figures, and even some aspects of lifestyle, I think) and I know what you mean about your face shape from your other photos.

I do love how you look in those glasses and I am going to try on some similar if I can find them. I didn't read your post until after my shopping trip but I did try on a few that weren't rectangular.

As for my face being round - it sort of is Tarzy. Bear in mind that the photo with it short was rounder than usual, owing to advanced pregnancy. Also I don't have a fringe anymore as my DH doesn't like me in it. (Thanks for compliment though Nicole! )I think a fringe can broaden the look of a face.
(BTW a fringe is Australian for bangs)

Will show you the pics soon!
thanks again for all the input

Anne I look forward to you posting pics of glasses - I love glasses!!! Agree with the others that colours would look great on you!

Becky I just wanted to say I love your glasses!!! A few years back I had a major catseye fetish, drooling over them on ebay. Sadly they just don't suit my face shape. You are so lucky that they look great on you!!!!

Tarzy -- This photo makes my face look slimmer than it really is! I've always thought of myself as very round-faced. The lady at the optometrist's office classified me as a "square."

Becky - those glasses look fantastic on you! Love them!

(I actually think Anne's face is a bit rounder than yours - you look like an oval to me. But I'm certainly no expert at this!)

Anne - I hope you try on a variety of frames and post pictures so we can see!

Anne, I don't know if this is going to be very helpful, but you and I have similar coloring and also (it seems to me) face shape. When I got my new glasses last summer, I tried on lots of different shapes and colors. I kept steering away from the straight-line (e.g., rectangular) frames and toward those with curved lines. Several mentioned liking the rectangular frames on you, but I don't think they're terribly flattering on you. The black also seems too dark for your coloring. Maybe you'll find yourself tending to like certain shapes/colors more than others. I ended up with a cat-eye shape and a dark brownish/burgandy colored frame. In fact, here's a pic to illustrate what I'm saying about "curved lines:"

http://i285.photobucket.com/al.....oo/006.jpg

Hi Anne, I like the rectangular shape of your cousin's glasses. That particular color may be a bit dark, but I really like the shape. Maybe something in a tortiseshell would look nice with your coloring. Good luck and I look forward to seeing pictures.

I've just been through this and the forum was invaluable in helping me!

I would decide first what kind of look you want - modern, classic, wild & trendy, etc. (I wanted a classic look, but I got them in a great color so they're not boring.)

To me, you have a fairly round face so I would avoid any frames that are too round. I really like the rectangular shape on you (and it's more modern, too.) I also think you have a fairly wide face, so I probably would avoid anything too narrow.

I like the suggestions of colored frames for you. I also happen to like blondes in black frames - I personally like the contrast and think it looks very modern - but of course, you have to get what you like. I think Angie has some frames that are black with some white around the edges - something like that might soften the black. I also love the idea of a blue or grey or something that will really bring out your beautiful eyes.

You might want to try on a few basic shapes first to help you see which shape you prefer, then once you've decided concentrate on that shape (otherwise it can get overwhelming.) But do try on lots and lots of frames - you never know what will look great.

If you can - try to find an optical shop with a sales person who is good at making suggestions. My friend told me about a particular woman at this one place who has a talent for matching frames with faces, and she turned out to be great.

When you go to the store bring a camera and take pictures of all the possibilities. This helps too because if you have a strong prescription (like me) you may not be able to really see without your glasses! And then you can post your favorites for feedback.

Good luck!

Hi Anne, I am really not good at giving glasses advise either--but from the photos you showed us, the one thing that stands out to me, is the coloring of the frames. I think the black frames might be too harsh for your fair coloring. However, I think the metal frames of your current glasses are too pale for your fair coloring. I think I'd lie to see try tortoise shell, and a medium red or burgundy, maybe a medium green or blue too.

As far as shape of the frame--I like your cousins's frames, but they seem a bit too wide.

Also, I love your hair in the the older photo of you 2 days before your daughter's birth.

Hi Anne

I see you're online right now too, so I just wanted to give you my two cents before you go shopping;-)

I agree with Aj, I would definitely go for a colour (your friend's glasses looked nice on you). I'm thinking you should try on blue frames, green ones, steel blue (with a hint of ice blue or light grey)... something that really brings out your beautiful blue eyes. (also try some frames with 'mixed' colours, like the one Patience is planning to buy, that would look fantastic too, I think).

Oh, and I get the impression that an angular shaped (maybe with rounded corners for some softness?) frame will look better than rounder frames too.

Keep us posted?

Hi AJ,
(it's nice having you in a slightly more similar time zone to me)
I am absolutely going to do the whole try on glasses thing. I may be able to go tomorrow (have had to wait for school to start so I can do it minus 2 kids)

But I thought it might be useful to have some idea where to start and your hints were really helpful in that. Interestingly, to your point about not getting black, I got those ones after admiring a friend's. Too late, I discovered hers weren't black anyway, they were blue.

San - thankyou for the lovely comment on my hair! It is not natural blonde I am afraid. Underneath I am a run of the mill "was blonde as a child now mousy with highlights if I spend a lot of time at the beach" (which I don't)

Anne - I think that the best thing to do is to go try on a variety of glasses and see how they look. As you know, we are happy to look at photos and comment!

From these photos, I think that you should definitely try glasses that are a color rather than a pale metal. You have beautiful coloring. Your current glasses seem to kind of blend in rather than highlighting your coloring. I'm not sure what colors would look best -- probably not something too stark like black, instead a bit softer. Your friend's pair and your former glasses seem to give your face more definition, again because they don't just blend in.

Good luck!
