I don't find metal frames flattering on most people, though for some reason they work on men. My brother and dad both have metal frames and look much better in them than plastic. I don't really know why that is.

But overall plastic gives more style, shape, and color options. The pair you are wearing have no visual interest and they do nothing to enhance your features.

I went on the glasses hunt last year and ended up with a great pair (that picture in the blog post above does not do them justice..you really need to see them in action to appreciate the colors). For me it was all about perseverance. I went to at least 3 different shops before I found a pair that fit and flattered--and when I finally found them, I didn't like the colors! So I looked online and found the same pair in a better color combination and had them special ordered. It was worth the effort. I have had to wear my glasses all winter due to dry eye and I would have felt like crap every day if I had to wear my boring old glasses.

I think glasses are more intimidating because we usually only have one, or maybe two, pair of them as opposed to a whole closet full of clothing choices.

Looking forward to your pics and maybe go back to the eye place to revisit your top choices. Sometimes I try frames on for the second/third time and suddenly wonder "what was I thinking?!"

I spent some time trying on frames today and took a bunch of pictures (not great pictures, because I was trying to take pictures of myself while holding a wiggling toddler who wanted down, but pictures anyway). As soon as the princess wakes from her nap and I can go inside (we're sitting in the truck in the driveway at the moment, luckily the wifi reaches) and get to a computer with a card reader I'll post them.

Try to find a good local optometrist, one that really understands the best glasses for your eyes as well as for your face, and enlist their help. I found that there was a world of difference between my clinic, which sold me the wrong specs, and the optometrist, who found me the ones that worked in every way. Check online before you visit--if they have a fashion sense as well as a feel for good eye health, that's a big step in the right direction.

Thanks for posting my post, Kim!

Dusty, not everyone looks good in dark, chunky frames, so I caution you - especially when your facial features are dainty. They can look quite harsh. BUT, you need to give it all a try so determine what's best. Off you go with camera in hand. We'll be waiting :0)

I read somewhere that if you have round face you should choose a rectangular frame, if you have a square face, choose a oval frame, if you have a oval face everything looks good.

I'm a big fan of darker, chunkier frames - I just think they look so hip! To me the shape and size of yours seem good, but I'd love to see thicker frames.

Ha ha, Queenie, you beat me to it! You must have a faster computer!

Dusty, I wear bifocal contacts during the day, but I have very similar frames that I wear at night. I've been putting off my search too, even though I've had my new eyeglasses prescription for 2 months now! I'll be following your thread to see what you pick, I really need to get going on my own search!

It has been determined that Angie thinks I need new glasses *wink* (no, really, I agree, I do), but for some reason this whole glasses thing is way more intimidating than starting my wardrobe completely over from scratch (maybe it's the whole "once you've bought them, they're yours" thing - no bringing home a bunch and returning what doesn't work). So....I need to go try some stuff on (and take the camera with me so I can take pictures and get opinions) but, before I jump into that (because, honestly, the thought of actually trying all those frames on while trying to protect all of the other frames on the wall from twenty sticky little fingers is almost as daunting) I need to know what exactly it is about my current specs that doesn't work. I *know* they're wrong, but I don't know *why*; is it the color, the shape, the size? (all three?)
http://i31.photobucket.com/alb.....G_0925.jpg

Thanks girls!
