I'm with ClaraT on this one - I *love* getting a real "parcel" in the mail. If there's a chance you could arrange to send the parcel to the home where the shower is being held, then I'd do that, so your best friend doesn't have to take it to the shower, or open it all by herself at home. Having said that though, it's still really nice to receive a parcel in the mail, no matter whether it's delivered to one's home or to the 'event.'

I used to get parcels all the time, when I moved from Vancouver to Toronto - from Grandma, from Dad, letters from friends, parcels from relatives.

Most recently, I've received a couple of real, honest-to-goodness parcels from a friend of the family for birthday and/or Christmas gifts, and I LOVE the whole idea. All wrapped up in brown parcel paper, labeled with a Sharpie marker and sent by mail. Brings back great memories of being a teen, having moved clear across the country (Vancouver to Toronto) and getting mysterious presents sent to me ...

You might want to send a card to your friend at her home - congratulating her and mentioning the upcoming shower. Send the gift as a parcel to where the shower is actually being held, if at all possible. It will be really neat to see something sent from afar at the shower. :)

Yes, over thinking but not being silly (after all, you want it just right for your best friend!) MaryK's suggestion is a good one if practical (e.g. send it to her sister's house if her sister is throwing the shower). Otherwise, send it straight to her house. She'll love it (who doesn't love a mysterious package on the doorstop?)

Yes, more than okay! Or if you want her to open it at the shower, you could have it mailed to the place where the shower will be held (if it's at somebody's house, and if that "somebody" doesn't mind).

I have a super silly question and I hope y'all can help me out.

My best friend is having her first baby in a few months (SQUEE!!!) and I have a shower etiquette question. She lives on the other side of the country from me, so I more than likely won't be able to attend her showers. She is coming down to visit her family after the baby's born, so if I can't go to a shower, I'll definitely see her then. Is it ok for me to to mail the gift to her house? Even if I go see her, it's probably going to be too big and bulky for me to handle on plane to see her and I dread the thought of it getting lost.

I feel like it would be fine just to send it to her and send a card separately, but I'm unsure (I haven't been to a whole lot of showers).

I'm probably being silly and over-thinking this.
