Stupid policy. Now that I know, I will ask for gift cards to *other* merchants!

I had the same problem with Piperlime, back when I was trying on a bunch of boots around X-mas. I complained for long enough that the person I talked to offered to send out the new boots, then deduct the amt. for the new boots from the new gift card, and then send me an empty "new" gift card. Totally bizarre. After that I promised myself I wouldn't order anything from the Gap family that could not be returned/exchanged in store. :T

I just returned my Athleta breeze shorts for a larger size. I originally paid using a $10 gift card. Exchanges are free to ship back, but returns cost $6. My gift card will be re-issued to me, rather than applied to the exchange for smaller size. Once the return is received they mail out a new replacement gift card. Silly, says I! So I either return, paying the $6, in order to get my new card before placing the exchange order. Or I exchange, with no credit for the gift card, but free shipping, and then get the card after the fact which means it cannot be applied to the order! Harumph. I have chosen the latter, begrudgingly. One wonders why they can't just apply that $10 to the exchange order for the exact item in a larger size?!?
Maybe some of you already know this but it was news to me - not good news!
