Hi July, and welcome! You sound a bit like me. I'm the jeans type, too, and I got to the point where I wanted to look more polished (at least on some days!). One thing that helped me was getting a couple of structured, dark-wash, above-knee denim skirts, which seemed like a shorter step away from jeans than other skirts or dresses. I started buying tights and tall boots to go with the skirts, and began experimenting with what tops worked with that. Eventually I was comfortable enough in skirts to start wearing casual dresses once in a while.

I still wear jeans many days, of course, but I find that nice shoes with a bit of a heel, and slimmer fit jeans, and non-sloppy tops makes you feel more polished without feeling "all dressed up". There's a big difference between faded, frayed-hem loose jeans/converse/baggy tee shirt and slim-fitting, dark jeans/button-down shirt/2" heeled ankle boots.

Hi July and welcome!

Definitely look at the body types posts and the MOTG posts (mom on the go - if you're not a mom, call them 'gal on the go' instead!)

Also, the closet reorganisation posts and the capsule posts (where you make sure you have a capsule of clothes that works for all areas of your life, even if they then overlap).

If you go to the blog section and search for those terms, they will come up. If you want specific links just say and I'll try to put some down for you.

It takes a while to work out how you want to look so don't worry if you can't find 'the answer' anywhere.

Have fun!

Welcome July. I'm just sorting through this quandry myself so no help here.

One question might be what don't you like about your look now. If you love your look but just think you should be dressing a little more maturely or a tad more polished that is a good starting point.

I can't stress enough how kind, supportive and helpful the ladies are.

Welcome, July. I would suggest taking it a bit slowly at first. I lurked for a long time, and then gradually posted some pictures, and spent a lot of time figuring out what I liked and didn't like on others, and thinking about what works for my body type. I guess I'm suggesting that you don't try to rush it to much, and let your style evolve.

Welcome, July! You'll find this forum to be incredibly helpful and friendly, so feel free to start posting and asking questions.

Some of the things I've done as I started my style journey were to read through a bunch of Angie's past blog posts - so much great information! I identified my body type and my color palette - these are incredibly helpful when it comes time to start getting some new things.

Next, I really looked at my lifestyle. I analyzed the main categories of things that I did on a weekly/monthly basis. For me, it was 80% MOTG (Mom on the go),10% Smart Casual, 10% Business, and them workout gear. Then, I really looked at my closet to see what clothes I had that would work in each of these categories. I realized that I had the least amount of clothes for MOTG, but I spent the most amount of time in this role - major wardrobe hole there!

I also read a few books on style. One that I've really liked is The Pocket Stylist by Kendall Farr.

YLF and this forum will be here for you on your style journey!

For me, starting with getting rid of what I don't wear and what doesn't suit me anymore was a big help. I posted questionable outfits here for input and tossed quite a bit on poor fit and outdated silhouettes alone. Also, thinking about how and where I would wear something rather than just whether I liked it or not, has been a helpful tool when purchasing new stuff.
Definitely scroll though some of the blog posts for an idea of what style you gravitate towards and how to put outfits together. There's a wealth of information to sift through!!

Hi July, and welcome! You've come to the right place. Angie is incredible and this is a fabulous and supportive forum. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your lifestyle? If you look in Angie's archives you'll see that there are headings for business casual, casual wear,moms-on-the-go, etc. There's a wealth of information in them! It's very helpful if you feel comfortable posting photos, if not then you can always post links to specific clothing items and ask for input. Most ladies start out here with identifying their body type and also by getting a good bra fitting. Just let us know how you would like to start and we are here! It sounds like you might already be in good shape in the denim department. :)

So glad you decided to jump in!!!

Hi! I'm new here (although I've been lurking a bit) and I was just wondering if there are any resources for getting started pulling together a "look" of your own. I'm very much a jeans kind of girl (dressy means dark jeans and high heels) and I'd like to get my wardrobe organized, figure out what I need (that's the tough part) and to have just a bit more of a polished look. I just turned 28, and am feeling like I need a more grown-up look. But I'm not really sure where to begin...
