MNsara, my cobbler guy got salt stains out of my Rorys. I'm sure it's just as much of a problem where you live... No idea what to do on the pants, though - this is why I don't have PPL!

Fiona - for some reason/additive the winter salt they use is extremely tenacious :-(

rheostatisticsfan - I still think I'd take them to a cleaners, but point out the salt and ask how they get it out. If you go to pick them up and still see salt, they should reclean them (although you may have to point it out to them again).

I've always somehow gotten salt out of fabrics. Usually a lot of water does most of it and washing does the rest. If yours can stand some water, try it before cleaning?

I haven't always been so successful with leathers/suedes. . . that's why all my lovely boots must take a hiatus until we get enough melting to dry out parking lots a bit - grrrr!

What else is in the salt that they put down? If it is pure NaCl shouldn't it just dissolve in water? (Speaking as a person who 5 years a go had never experienced any sort of snow).

What is the fabric of your dress pants? If water won't stain them, I'd try first wiping the area with a clean damp cloth, letting it dry and repeating. If washable, soaking in water should help dissolve the salt.

Ugh I hate this time of year.

I think the subject says it all. I would normally dry clean the pants...but I have never found a truly reliable dry cleaner and almost all stains (never tried salt stains) remain after dry cleaning.

Should I soak my hems in water? Anything else to suggest?
