Honestly. LOVE these ideas! I don’t wear a lot of sheath dresses (hard to fit) but I will try this brown jacket over flowery dresses and skirts. Also love the idea of a slightly longer untucked top.

There’s might be a style Lab coming up as I find ways to make this jacket work for work…

Yes to a lower contrast top for #1. How about pairing the brown jacket with a flowy skirt? Love #2!

Nodding along with above ... for the priorities you've identified for yourself, #2 is fantastic, and #1 would be amazing over a column, or as was mentioned above, perhaps a long shirt (I feel like that early 00s short over long thing is coming back? Might be wrong though ...)

In any case, you always look fab Roxanna!

When will it be cool enough for the vest in #2 or that jacket?
I agree with others on not giving up on the jacket entirely. I’d try it over something fitted that shows off your shape, like a pencil skirt & matching top. Being me, I’d go for pattern in one or both pieces, but low/no contrast between top & bottom.

I agree with a lot of the comments re. pairing the brown jacket with other bottoms, e.g., a skirt, and wearing it with pants with a dark, longer shirt underneath. I think it's more about the current pairing of the jacket with the tucked top and those particular pants (and bare feet), vs. something about the jacket or your figure (I see no evidence of "blocky" or "squat"!). And the second jacket with those pants and heels is a slam dunk!

I don’t see your figure as boxy or squat, but I do see how the combination of angles and color of #2 play well with your hair and coloring. I wouldn’t give up on jacket #1 just yet. Maybe a brown top under it or with a print on bottom? Adding more organic or angular bits on bottom to play off the straighter lines of the jacket?

I also prefer outfit #2 because the colour of the topper is magical with your hair and complexion. It's more striking than the brown - which also looks fab, but not quite as fab.

Pop the shorter jackets over dresses!

live the second look. also helped by lower contrast between the inner layer and the jacket and better tonal matching between the jacket and the pants.

multiple reasons for more figure flattery than just the jacket shape.

This is such great advice and it gives me hope for all my cropped jackets! Great solutions, @Brooklyn, @irina, @Bijou and @kkards. I will try a tonal top for a column of color to see if That works better - and heels will for sure make look #1 more conventionally flattering.

Though I don’t want to be tied to strict rules of flattery too much, so I appreciate your advice in making #1 work.

love the second outfit, and i see what you are getting at with #1, but I think its worth trying again, but don’t tuck the blouse. And i agree with Bijou to try a top in the same color as the pants would also give you a stronger lengthening line. As would shoes in the same color as the pants.

I agree, the second is more conventionally flattering, BUT, you look fabulous in both. Heels with #1 would give you a longer leg line so this is not a direct comparison. If you wore a top the same colour as your pants under jacket #1, that will give you a column of colour and offset the more boxy shape of jacket #1.

I like the second outfit better too but I don’t think there is any problem with your lovely figure. I think the diagonal angles of the jacket in 2 just create a more interesting and flattering look. The first outfit has a lot of horizontal happening, which produces the boxy vibe. So maybe a cropped jacket with more angular lines would also work well for you (like a moto jacket for instance). Or you could wear an angular or ruffled top or cardi under the boxy jacket in 1 to break up the lines.

Hello all-
I wanted to report back on all my proportion experiments that you all have been so generous in helping me with :)

The first outfit (with brown jacket) was one I had posted a few months ago, but on reflection and with your help, I realized that the boxy cropped jacket ended at the wrong place on my short-waisted body, making me look blocky and squat.

This time I keep the pants and cami, but replaced the jacket with a longer one that nips in, which I think hints at a waist and gives more leg lengthening proportions (along with the heels, of course.) what do you think? Does this work better?

Now that I have identified my short waistedness, regular rise, and FF priority of lengthening my legs, I’m realizing that cropped jackets are harder to wear on me than I thought. You ask gave me some great suggestions on a previous post that I will be trying out come fall.

Pants: Eileen Fisher
Cami: Oui
Brown leather jacket: Rag & Bone
Tweedy cardigan jacket: Club Monaco
