Despite all the excitement about the Gap's revamp in 2010, I only managed to find two things (a striped tee shirt and a pair of jeans) that I liked. Everything else that I have tried on since then just didn't seem to fit right or be made well, so once again I gave up on trying them out for anything other than jeans. It's disappointing.

Jonesy and Niki: my local gap no longer carries the girls' clothing, but I actually used to buy girls xxl at gap sometimes! (and I am not tiny, but a size 8!). Gap kids clothing seems to be made for gigantic children! I loved their socks too... Super cute and the girls xl actually fits my narrow feet better than standard women's socks.

Jonesy, I agree with you about the kid's clothes vs. the adult's clothes. The kid's offerings have been much more exciting lately.

For example, compare the drab colour of this women's dress:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....pid=834068

To this fab collection of kid's dresses:
http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=67004

I agree with Kristen - lots of interesting stand-alone pieces, but hard to put things together. Plus, their color palette is so muted and bleak lately! It's hard to argue with their jeans fit though - absolutely superb. I hope the next designer can put it all together.

Very interesting, Anna. I always buy clothes at Gap, but I do have to dig a bit these days to find stuff I like that fits right. I think it's sort of like thrifting! I'm intrigued about their kids department head running the adult department while they search for someone new. I've always thought to myself: "They have these cool prints and what seems like very good workmanship on the kids' clothes--if only they could bring some of that to their women's clothes."

Very interesting news! All I've gotten from them has been my one pair of charcoal leans, which I bought for half price. I personally don't find their clothes special enough for the price points anymore. It's all kind of middle-of-the-road -- not classic enough to be classic or edgy enough to be edgy. It's like they no longer have a point of view as a brand.

Anna, thanks for sharing. I hope they go back to a more "normal" sizing scale. I'm so over all this vanity sizing.

Gap is not cohesive lately. I just don't get the sizing either.
I ordered five items online several weeks ago, and had to return every last thing. I was a little surprised because Gap's sizing was always consistent before. Nothing I ordered fit, and some of the pieces were just ODD. Not to mention that they were not as pictured online.
Last year I never left Gap without striking gold. I hope things improve again.

Interesting. I do shop at the gap but do find it kind of boring, definitely agree with the article that there is no real cohesive fashion "story" going on there. I like them for things like underwear and socks, and for the fact that everything goes on deep deep sale sooner or later (which is fun for us bargain shoppers but probably means the store is not doing so well). I'll be interested to see what new direction they decide to take.

This is very interesting.

I have always thought that with most retailers, I have a pretty clear idea of who their target market is, and the look and lifestyle they are trying to sell. I have never really figured that out with Gap. They don't have a strong identity and that is why it never occurs to me to even go there.

I wish they would go back to the Gap of my high school years. Gap used to mean high quality clothes.

I have a long sleeved Gap shirt that I've been wearing since 1994. I keep thinking I should get rid of it but it's still looks 10x better than any long sleeved knit shirt available nowadays. No holes, no stains, no dangling threads and it still looks polished.

The only clothes I buy from Gap nowadays are their jeans.

Interesting! I have felt the Gap has been on fire lately -- great returns to basics with revamping their jeans and launching their dress pants lines, and they've had tons of interesting tops and sweaters. But the article makes a great point -- nothing really goes "together", and that's been a problem for a while.

They were in a huge slump before Patrick Robinson got there, and he deserves a lot of credit for turning that around. I worked for them at Forth & Towne, and a large part of why that brand failed was because Gap itself was such a drain at the time. They pulled themselves out of that by bringing Robinson in. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

Interesting. I love info like this, too.

The article summed up most of my experiences in the Gap over the past few years. I've rarely walked out with anything besides my beloved Leans.

Looking forward to a new direction~

I almost hate to say this, but thank goodness. Lately I haven't seen anything in Gap I would wear. It was all so...bland and shapeless. I miss the colourful, classic, and fun Gap.
