I'm a thin rectangle so I usually find that pants are too small in the waist if they fit in the hips and thighs. I look for pants that give me some shape.

Modern boot cuts pants: The cut is great on my shape. They're fairly slim in the hips and thighs, then a nice bootcut at the bottom. I really like the back flap pocket which gives some detail without being bulky. I have to say they're one of the best pants I've found for flattering my (somewhat flat) backside! The fabric is nice also- a polyester, viscose, spandex blend. I think they'll wear well and won't wrinkle.

Perfect trouser pants: These didn't work as well for me. When the waist fit, the hips were too big (typical problem for me). The fabric and cut was nice though and I was disappointed they didn't fit. I think these would be perfect for an hourglass.

Does anyone know if the legging jeans are cut smaller overall, or just in length? How would a 6P compare to a 2R?

Sort of O/T, sorry, but I just gleaned from a comparison in Angie's response that the J brand ankle zip skinnies should be worth waiting for in the mail! After nervously taking the plunge on eBay the other day, I'm glad to have that reaffirmation :0 I really wish they'd come today before my trip, but not likely

Now I'm a little confused! I have the jean leggings in overdyed navy and love them - the rise is a bit higher which I need, and they fit really well. I sized down and they fit perfectly, although I could use a petite for less scrunch.

I need to figure out the difference between the really skinny, always skinny and the jean leggings!

Wow, I wish I'd read this before I bought Gap trousers or pants as you call them (I'm from the UK). I'm a UK 8 (US4) in gap, hourglass body shape, small waist and a womanly behind which means I sometimes get gapping at the back of pants and jeans, I think my legs are slightly thicker than average and some jeans are too tight on my thighs. I find that Gap pants run long in the length, I usually have to buy long or extra long lengths but the regulars are long enough and my inside leg is 33.5". In September when I got back from a trip to California and having Gap jeans recommended to me by a family member I bought the relaxed fit skinny jeans, some skinny fit trousers and a pair of true straight's in black from a UK store, I absolutely love the jeans and the skinny trousers but I'm not impressed with the true straights, they fit lovely when I tried them on but they are lint magnets which winds me up and on top of that by the end of the day they look like they are a size too big, hanging off my hips, baggy around the backside and all down the legs.

I e-mailed Gap about them they just sent me their returns policy, basically because they are not unworn or unwashed I'm stuck with them, I don't think this is fair when they are marketed as being crisply tailored etc etc so I responded- I will let you know what they come back with!

I have read this entire thread with interest. Thank you Kristen for setting this up. It looks like some of you had luck with the modern bootcut trousers. I need to buy a couple trousers to replace some worn out ones. This might be the way to go.

Are the bootcut trousers the same fabric as the perfect trousers? Per Gap's site, it appears that they are. Has anyone compared them in person? Thank you!

I am 5'2" with relatively long legs for my height, and an inverted triangle with apple tendencies. I usually wear a 4 or 6 in Gap. I have the long and leans, always straight, jean leggings, and perfect bootcut.

I have two pairs of the long and leans in size 4, one in their "ankle" length which I can wear with flats, and one regular to wear with heels. This style runs long in general, I was told, so I cannot wear ankle length (or petite) in any of the other styles because they are too short. One pair stretches out terribly, and the other does not. So, I'd agree that the sizing and possibly the fabric is somewhat inconsistent.

I also tried on several pairs of the perfect bootcuts in the same size (6) and some were much tighter than others. I don't know if it has to do with the wash or what. I really like the ones I got because they are a medium rise and have the wider, two button waistband which has a nice girdling effect.

The always straight pair that I have are my favorite jeans. They loosen up slightly, but do not get baggy and the regular are a great length for me with a bit of scrunch at the bottom. I only wish the rise was a bit higher.

For the jean leggings, I got a petite size 6 because I will only wear them tucked into boots, and I didn't want there to be too much fabric around my ankles. If I was not going to wear them tucked in, they'd be too short.

Thanks, Carole, hope this was helpful! It was to me too.

Sarah, I am the same with my length; I want to wear them with boots and regular heels too. I am really long-legged though so I got the longs. But there is not a ton of "scrunch" even on those for me, so I think they will work in boots. We shall see!

I am bummed they don't make the modern bootcuts in as many fabrics as the perfect trousers; I loved the pinstripes too, but our only options are black, navy and grey. I wish there was at least a brown.

I am looking forward to your photos later!

Gorgeous! I went ahead and picked up a pair last night but I was SO TORN on the length. I personally (don't shoot me) want to wear mine with pumps and tunics as well as tucked into boots. The ankle length had no scrunching at all, but the regulars have too much. I bought the regulars and figured I could hem them to the ideal length. I'll post pictures this afternoon (pre stretch, just warning you, lol).
I also picked up the modern boot cut trousers but am having second thoughts. The perfect trousers fit me very poorly but I really did want the navy pinstripe. Poo.

Whoo, look at all the variety in responses! That's the amazing things about fashion; what works on one body doesn't always work on another. I like lines like these Perfect Pants because there are so many choices it increases the changes of finding one that works.

Angie, I did not wear jeans and boots last year, but I did wear ponte pants and boots. I prefer that to jeans, primarily because then I can wear the look more than just on weekends. That's what I am hoping I will do with the really skinny pants this winter.

Sarah, here is my updated review after a day of wearing the skinny pants: they did stretch out some down the whole leg as the day progressed, but never so much they fell off me or looked baggy. Like Auburn noted, they did pick up a lot of lint, but it also came off with a quick hand-brushing and it didn't come back. I also wash my stretch pants after every wearing, so I am not concerned with next-day stretching. And as CRWilson noted, I kind of like when pants give as the day progresses because it gives me a little breathing room. They are ridiculously comfortable, and I thought they looked pretty great.

The first photo is this morning, with my Target tank and a thrifted Talbots jacket. I got the long skinnies so I could wear them with heels. My Franco Sarto booties got their first wearing of the season!

Same outfit later that night. You can see some gathering around the knee, but not significantly more than the morning shot. IMO.

My verdict: Love 'em, keeping 'em, will be very versatile this fall and winter -- with boots, booties, tunics, everything I would wear skinny jeans with, except I can wear these to the office.

I'm 5'3 and a size 2 at the Gap. I have an apple-y waist and a rather flat rear end. I have the Always Skinny jean, the True Straight pants, and the Modern Boot trousers.

Always Skinny - love, love, love these. I don't have any problems with them bagging out, and they are comfortable and just the right amount of stretch for me.

True Straight - I love the way these fit, and I like the way they look, but I don't love the fabric. It's comfortable, but there's something too casual about it for me. I will say, though, that I like these better than the BR Martin pants that everyone else loves because the Gap pair has a lower rise. I'm ridiculously short waisted, and low rise pants fit me like regular pants, whereas midrise pants reach my belly button or above.

Modern Boot - This is the perfect trouser for me because it's lower rise and fitted through the hips. I haven't had a problem with too much stretching either, though I think it's only fair to mention that I tend to like my pants a little bit bigger toward the end of the day, as I feel a bit bigger...

I'm 5'10" and a size 16/18, and have had the best luck, in pants/trouser jeans, with the Curvy cut - less gaping in the waist but a little high in the rise - and the Trouser cut - lower rise, more slouchy (not sure if that's the same as the new Perfect trouser). I have *not* had good luck with the jeans cuts, even the Curvy ones; I need the tall length which at Gap is also longer in the rise, and since I'm short waist-to-hip despite my height I get an Urkel look.

Oh no, my timing is bad, I fear.
Body disclaimer: almost 5'10 and usually a 4 (but sometimes a 2 at the Gap).

Based on this week's Gap chatter, I found myself in the store last night and picked up a pair of the evidently stretch-prone Perfect Trouser. I went in to try on the Really Skinnies that Kristen adores but was immediately turned off my the lint-magnet fabric. Even in the store with an ostensibly low fuzz/dust quotient, the pants on the rack all looked linty. I have 2 kitties at home and definitely need things that don't act as a fur magnet! So no Really Skinnies for me...
I was pleasantly surprised by the Perfect Trouser--nice draping, nice material and even nicer price point (especially with some coupons and 10% off Tuesdays). I'm used to paying @ $200 for nice, flat front dress slacks so paying less than $30 felt like a steal!
All this is said with the caveat that I'm wearing the pants now (3 hours in, so far so good) but will be monitoring the stretch factor. I don't always mind a slouchy shape on my dress pants (especially when paired with a fitted top) so this may not be a dealbreaker for me...

I only tried on one pair of leans and they were REALLY snug (in a depressing way) and I didn't have the inner fortitude to try on more pants...another day!

Also picked up at the Gap: v-neck cardigan in that bright tomato color that we saw all over the runways! And they are marked down to $25! Nice wooly fabric too! And while there they gave me a 45% off coupon (full price item only) for every Wed in October so that's something to be on the look out for if you are scoping out pricier full price items!

Kristen, did you try tucking Gaps "forever skinny" or "always skinny" into boots instead of the leans (legging jeans)? I have clients who prefer the aesthetic of that combination. In fact - that happened with a client yesterday!

Haven't we seen you wear boots over jeans last season, Kristen? I remember it looking great - or did I dream about that instead?

Polly, try the legging jeans. You might prefer them.

I have mixed feelings about their pants - work for some clients, not for others.

To finally answer your question, I doubled up on Gaps leans last week because I have found them truly killer in every way. Better than my premium skinnies (not counting my J. Brand skinny zipper jeans). No stretching out and VERY comfortable. Love the fit too. Like real riding pants. And you can't beat the price with a 30% off coupon. It sort of blows my mind how on the ball the Gap has been this season.

I am 5'6" size 6 and my legs are long. I bought the Curvy bootcut jeans about 2 months ago and found the fit great. My rear view is very curvy and generally I need to have the back waist taken in but these fit right out of the store. I find that they wear for 2 or 3 days before they are too baggy and need a wash. I've been very happy with them and they are my everyday jeans. The Curvy style is very flattering on my curvy, pear-shaped bottom. Comfy, nice fit.

Just yesterday, I bought the Real Straight jeans. Haven't worn them in real life yet but I found the fit was nice in the store after some trial and error.

My "rant" was that I had to try several pairs on (same size, same wash) to find a pair that fit since each pair I tried was drastically different. Some were too big in the waist or too tight in the hips. Or some other fit issue. Its a general problem I have noticed with Gap jeans...lack of consistency within sizing. I would have loved to buy them online or through Angies store but their sizing is unreliable and would probably require a return.

My "rave" is that they are making their jeans nice and long these days. I usually have to go into long sizing because I need a 33" inseam for flat shoes but the Gap regular length is nice for my flats and gives me a perfect scrunch.

I've tried on the Always Skinny but find myself always thinking that the rise is too low - not sure if this is just something I need to get used to... They don't have them in black any more, though, which is what I want.

I am a 5'3" pretty pear and purchased the perfect boot in two colors, light and dark blue. I love the fit at first, the length is perfect for a small (<2 inch) heel and the material is soft and comfortable. Unfortunately by the end of the day, they get so baggy, they are falling off and the baggy-ness is everywhere, butt, knees. It's a shame as I loved the fit and the length until they stretch. I'm hunting for new cowboy boot friendly jeans now.

Hi Ladies,

Here is what I own from the recent GAP collection. I'm 5'8" and I think a rectangle with pear shape tendencies.

Legging Jeans:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....=768454002
I've worn these a couple times. These are really nice & do not stretch much. I find them a little high waisted, which does not bother me. I got a 6 long on these but I think an 8 long would have been a better size for me.

Perfect Boot Jeans:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....=673946002
I have not worn this yet, I'm not sure about how much they will stretch. I expect that they will stretch out just like designer jeans. However, the fit is absolutely amazing. I got the darkest wash, so I'm expecting a bit of jean transfer issues. I got an 8 long on these. I like them so much, I'm saving them for a special occasion coming up.

Pants:
Perfect trousers:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....nk=2038865
These are a total disaster. They fit quite nicely when freshly washed, however, they stretch like anything I ever seen, just a few hours later. I would avoid this fabric like the plague. I have a 6 long on these. This is the fabric content per GAP's site:
62% Polyester, 33% Viscose Viscose, 5% Spandex.

I hope this helps!

I am 5'2 and hourglass(i think) and I bought the jeggings in the dark blue and black and love them. They do not stretch out and no muffin top works great with tunics. These are my favorite to wear with my boots because the jeans fit inside the boot and stay not allot of material poohing out. . I also bought the always skinny jeans and they are great they don't stretch out like the Kut jeans from Nordstroms. I did not try the boot cut or long and lean.

Great idea, Kristen.

I am an hourglass/pear, 5'3" and own the jeggings and "always skinny" jeans.

They are all heavenly. Thanks to Angie being on top of this in July (before SYC started) I own the jeggings in the dark rinse and black. They do not stretch out. I own them both in the same size. They give me a good amount of scrunch at the bottom. LOVE.

The always skinny jeans are the best skinnies I own - better than my premium denim skinnies. They do not fade, they hold their shape, and the rise is nice and high (which I like under tunics - lock and load, as Shiny used to say).

Hope that was helpful!

I don't have any Gap pants, but I do have a few pairs of the Real Skinny jeans and Perfect Bootcut jeans. Love the fit of both, esp. the bootcuts. (BTW, I'm 5'11" and typically wear a 10 or 12 in jeans, usually tall or long if I can find them; I am definitely not an hourglass [not much difference between waist and hips, pretty flat rear end])

Great review, Kristen. I recently tried all of the Gap pants, jeans and leggings and it seems that absolutely nothing at the Gap, except their tees, fit me!

So I'm going to try the new Levis Curve ID jeans. Not that I NEED any new jeans, just curious about the fit.
