I don't put my jeans in the dryer & wash denim on cold, and for the first 2 washes my Gap Real Straight jeans (in the lighter wash) were okay for a couple wears in between washes without bagging out. After the 3rd wash (still on cold & line dried) they started bagging out after 1 wear, so I have to wash them a lot more frequently even if they are clean enough to wear again.

I have 2 pairs of Gap leans and no bagging after wash - I air dried them. I wore them 3 times between washes and did not notice much bagging at all - I was even tempted to wear them for the 4th time.

Thanks everyone, for your sympathies!

Angie - I am fortunate to have a second floor laundry closet (no hauling baskets up and down two flights of stairs) - the drawback is a lack of space for drying items.

Perhaps I need to look for non-lycra denim? Some people rave about how they mold to your body...

I had this issue with the waist bagging out too much, and it didn't matter if i washed and dryer dried or air dried. So I bought some elastic belts at Nordstrom Brass Plum for about $12- they solved the waist bagging out problem, at least.

I have washed and air dried them. I think thats the safest method. I also use dryel between washes. Take them to gap. The worst they can say is no. Try to go to a flaship store. I've found that customer service there tends to be better. They have become more strict in their policies as of lately, though.

I never dry denim unless they are already a size too big and I'm trying to extend the wear just a bit longer. I know I have to dry them after every wear, though.
My Gap jeans stretch a little, but don't bag out. I went down a size and wear them about three or four times before I wash and hang dry.
Sorry about your baggy jeans.

Ditto what QM said - if you follow the label and it fails, that sounds like it should be returned and brought to their attention. (I think that also might be why SO many clothes labels now take the safe route and just say Dry Clean Only. . . )

MPJ- if the washing instructions say wash and dry (which most denim does) I might be tempted to take them back to the Gap and try to get your money back. The item is not holding up under the manufacturers posted washing guidelines. Not sure the Gap will comply, but it's worth a try. I took a turtleneck back to Old Navy once because I didn't like the way it washed up and they took it.

I don't dry any of my denim in the dryer, and my ATL jeans still bag out like crazy. Not my Gap ones as much, but I don't wear those as much either. I'm sorry about your jeans - there's nothing more frustrating or disappointing than clothes that don't hold up the way that they should!

*siiiiiigh*

I am so mad at myself. I have, of course, dried all of my Gap jeans (2 jeggings, 2 straight leg) in the dryer) and, of course, they do seem to bag out EXTREMELY quickly after donning them in the morning.

My question...for those of you who have bought these and have laundered them properly (inside out in machine on cold, line dried), have you noticed significant bagging? It is an expensive lesson for me to learn, but sadly, as a MOTG, denim is still my go-to fabric/item and with all of my jeans in sad shape, I either have to replace them with the same or look for different brands.

Thanks for your input!
