That sounds lovely!

ETA

And I think it's easy to say you should get rid of something you don't love. But it's not easy to then have enough clothes left to be properly dressed (of course that might be different depending on wardrobe size). Especially if you can't replace the piece with a better one instantly (because of budget or lack of clothes on offer). I'm personally in favour of getting rid of anything that truly doesn't work or makes you feel bad, but otherwise I always try to think about ways to alter it or combinations I can make work first.

Sterling--yes, that's true, I did make fun of myself in it. :) Do you donate whatever you don't feel good in? Because sometimes I second-guess myself and tell myself I should be content. Seems like certain days are ones where I can pull off anything and others are just full of discontent all around, you know? I once heard a fashion blogger say that you should get rid of anything you have to "make" work--like, if you have to buy new pieces to make something doable, then it's best to just give away the hateful thing that is causing the trouble in the first place. Do you agree?

Okay, yes, now I'm thinking that a cropped pullover could be cute with that skirt. I think I will keep it. I love the idea of a cropped pullover sweater (the ones with the very loose knit that are really popular right now) in an aqua or peach--like the colors you suggested, quietgirl. Thanks, ladies! :)

It doesn't sound to me like you feel good wearing it. I would donate it.

The skirt is a pencil shape. Thanks for the color ideas! And I'd love to post a picture, but I haven't figured that out yet. Plus, I'm not yet allowed to view anyone's pics on here--not an "active" member yet. :)

It could be for early spring. I could see it paired with pink or aqua. Add a scarf or jewelry that has both colors in it . . . that is brown & pink or brown & aqua.

If you can post a picture, that would be helpful too!

What shape is the skirt? A-line? Pencil? Five pocket style? I think it depends a bit on that and on the way it fits you, but I find a great casual way to wear skirts is with a short (cropped) pullover in a relaxed fit. And no need for heels, there's a lot of nice flat footwear out there to wear with skirts.

I have a question about an item in my closet (actually, there are a couple of things that I currently have and don't know what to do with--but, we'll start with this one). It is a Gap knee-length dark brown corduroy stretch skirt. I don't know if I want to keep it--I think the tag says it's from 2006 (Don't you just love those tags? Always makes trying to decide whether or not to keep something simpler, as in "Oh, that's way too 2003--like 12 years ago!--and I don't have anything else in my closet from that era, so out it goes! Thanks Gap for labeling your clothing by season!). Anyway, whenever I try to put something with it, I end up feeling like I walked out of 2001 or something.

What do you think? Maybe with a chambray button down? What about footwear? Camel flats (I have a bazillion kids so heels are pretty much out all the time, speaking in reality, not fantasy fashion terms)? I know brown corduroy is not exactly a "springy" fabric, but anyway. Thanks!
